Allergy meds—- I read somewhere, my doc told me, and from experience, if you take a certain brand/type of allergy medicine for a long time, your body adjusts, and the meds no longer work. With that in mind. I go by use a bottle up then change type/brand for another bottle worth. I use the big bottles from Sam's. That seems to work for me. Prior to my doing that, the allergy meds I was on had quit working and contributed to my asthma attack the beginning of the year. As far as my stomach crud, it stems from my Colitis. I read everyone who has my type of Colitis deals with GERD sometime in their life. Well, I've had GERD for the last 20 years, got off "the purple pill", then adjusted to being without that for a while. All was well until this mess. I found that "the purple pill no longer works for me, plus it conflicts with a couple of my meds so had to stop that. I found that Prev — A— cid works and I only take when needed. Up to 2 a day, 4 hours away from my meds. This is working for me right now. Still need to talk to Gastro about all this.

Dang, lost track of time. Skipped most of page 9, Got a call to go to pay booth now.

😀 Barbara, Just like you, Jake was very particular about produce, so on some occasions, he would go into the store and pick out his own produce and then let the store know that we were here for curbside pickup for what we'd ordered online. I routinely get grape tomatoes, roma tomatoes, honeycrisp apples, and veggies for soup and am satisfied with what Barry, the shopper, chooses for me. We originally started curbside pickup during the pandemic to avoid being in stores and liked it so much that I'm still doing it.

😀 What I'm doing is tied to the things that I value most. Care for my dogs keeps me home with them most of the day. Care for the environment guides what I buy and how often I get in my car and go somewhere. Health and longevity concerns guide my exercise, sleep, relationships, what I read and watch, and what I eat. Frugality is important, but since I am an intentional shopper for so many other reasons, when I buy something I choose based on what I want most rather than on the price.

😀 Lisa, we liked traveling in an RV because we could have our dogs and cats with us, prepare our own meals, sleep in our own bed, and use our own toilet. It was satisfying until suddenly it wasn't.

😀 Allie, I have never potty trained a child but I know that kindergarten teachers don't report children coming to kindergarten in diapers. Someone already mentioned that they'll do it when they are ready. Do not be discouraged.

😀 Zoom call, walk, and phone call with friends today. It will be my social day.

Annie ~ Glad your dad remembered his pants. So sorry the library was too quiet for you. Growing up I spent many happy hours in our very tiny town library looking for books to read. Yes, it was always quiet but gave me something to look forward to…reading.

Barbara ~ Shadow must have really been matted to have to have a 2nd attempt to finish. Just wondering what you do with the one thing you remove from the OMG desk.

Lisa ~ I love looking at the interior photos of the large RVs as they seem so tempting. I have actually thought it would be nice to live in a studio type house where everything took place in one large room. But, I doubt I would really like that in the long run. My husband’s family had an air stream trailer in the 60’s/70’s and I remember them saying FnL pulled that thing through downtown New York City one time on business. It lasted in the family for many years but finally was given to my DH’s brother.

Tracy ~ Great photo of you and Roger. Glad you are attempting to find things you both can enjoy. We used to love going to garage and estate sales together before the pandemic but that all stopped during those years. Now, my DH’s health will not allow anything where a lot of walking is involved. Now our best time to get out is for a meal a few times a month.

Heather ~ Bea’s performance sounds like she is destined to be a star! Bet she gets some of that from you!

Kim ~ Have you thought about joining Wallmart online? I think it’s around $100 per year with free delivery. Just glad you have some friends willing to help you get to appointments.

I think I have written a book so will go!

Good thoughts and prayers for everyone.

    Lanette,

GGP doc didn't really give me any eating plan, but part of the process to get med was to see a dietician. I had logged a weeks worth of eating on here, printed them out and she was very impressed. The main issue with many on this med is not eating enough, and not getting enough protein. So my goal is set at 1300 calories but most days I get about 1100 to 1200. I have it set to 114 grams of carbs and 114 grams of protein, (which I have yet to make and told doc that). Like today I have planned 104 g carbs 35%, and 104 g protein 35%, and my fats are 25%. I like when I get that pretty pie chart just right. When I get to my goal weight which I really don't know, I would most likely be on a maintenance dose every 2 weeks and adjust if necessary. I know out in the civilian world its important to not take it forever, as its $600 a box (months worth). But that's not the issue for me and I am ok taking this forever.

In a book I read about this medication, the problem is when people go off of it, the weight does slowly come back. And most of the weight that returns is pure fat. So then the cycle continues trying to lose that weight again and its harder to lose. It is mostly stemmed around the high cost and the validity of taking it. I don't want to do that!

Regarding protein drinks, they have their place definitely! I try to only use the ones with 42 grams of protein every so often, they're the Fair Life Core Power elite (like couldn't we shorten the name a wee bit guys?). The Atkins coffee, and chai tea shakes are nice at 15 grams, and only 11 oz cartons. The Pure Protein, Joko Molk, and Premier shakes are also 11 oz cartons with 30 grams of protein. I get kind of intimidated with the huge bottles! I don't want to ever drink my protein for the day, as I think it would do a number on the body, constipation. So I try to eat my protein too. Today is rotisserie chicken 3 oz, and 2 hardboiled eggs. One in the chicken soup for lunch and the other at dinnertime. I am lazy and buy Nellies hardboiled eggs in a two pack.🙃

😀 SHARE, so glad to see you. Your high outdoor temperatures now are a great challenge. Is your house cool? I hope you keep coming back here where you can get some good ideas for an eating and exercise plan. It took me awhile to find the best eating plan for me that I could stick to, but now that I have it, I only veer away occasionally and not for long. I seek every opportunity to be active even if it's just moving around the house decluttering. I found this site at 185 pounds and have lost about 50 and kept it off. I lost more than that but my doctor said that I my age, I shouldn't be too thin. I live in PNW where temperatures over 75 are rare. I have a heat pump so my house stays reasonably cool in the summer and warm in the winter. What kind of yard work do you do? I have a tomato plant, some pumpkins and sunflowers, and various bulbs. I also have two dogs so the fenced yard gets trampled on a lot.

mom sprays the yard down to keep the chickens cool. In years past, when dad was still alive, he planted gourds all around the chicken yard- The gourds offered great shade over the whole thing(it is covered to keep the critters out. The gourds did great because of all of the chicken poop there.

I have some tomatoes setting on. I have my first tomato about ready- it is a cherry. Tiny Tim is the variety. Those of you who want very small but heavy bearing tomatoes, check out Tiny Tim. Mine has at least 10 good size cherry tomatoes on it but less than a foot tall!! Very compact. I only have one but will plant more next year. One I want to find for next year(thought that is what the tiny tim was going to be)is the one with very tiny tomatoes, like the size of blueberries- Sweet 100 is small but I want smaller- Forgot to plant a Sweet 100 this year- have 20 other kinds though ;)

I am enjoying the quiet this weekend. I did get a lot of the things on my list done but still haven't started sewing YET, but that is the next thing on the list. I could get used to a few more of these but he is getting tired of doing the shows with this one guy. Found out he has been cheating him, not sure how often, when it comes to how much the venues cost. A few shows ago, the guy told him dh's share was 250, found out it was just 198. Dh called him on it and he just said, "Yea, I know". Now dh checks the venue site himself.
We will start doing the shows through another friend who has more connections. The one he is dealing with now has cheated other venue promoters so we can't do their shows right now. We will be able to with the other guy, and those shows are a lot closer and fees are not as much.

Dh signed us up for another show for next month. It is a one day show so I will go with him. It is in Redding,CA It is 2 1/2 hrs north of us.

Rita - yes, I think it's true about the allergy meds not working after a while. Dr. Lisa said the same thing with Al-legra kicking it up a notch, though there's a chance I can get back on Zyr-tec if needed. A couple days ago I took a 12 hour Walgreen's nasal decongestant - D which worked well but kept me awake. I took it at noon. In the future, if I need one, I'll cut it in half and take it earlier in the day. I have to cut most over the counter pills in half anymore.

Rebecca - thank you for the info about your dietician and meal planning. Sounds like it's giving you a solid foundation for success. 😀

Flea - our community has cooling stations set up and most fire stations welcome folks to come in and cool off. But I know, getting there can be another matter. I hope after midweek we're done with the high 80's and 90's for the summer.

Update on T's FIL - turns out he had a blood clot in his catheter at the hospital yesterday. His doc there said prostate surgery is an option. For a 92 year old in failing health. 😣 T's DH said they had discussed things like with his dad a while back and no surgeries. Pain meds only. He'll be released tomorrow. T is buying sweats and comfortable loose clothing for him to wear instead of jeans and was taking them up to him. She said when they visited him yesterday, his thought process was very poor.

Grocery budget - I currently spend an average of $600 per month. That includes one or two lunches out and "loading up" when food items, such as meat, are on sale and those go into the freezer. I can go about 5 days in between shopping trips (the big grocery stores are 12 miles away) then I run out of fresh produce. Two years ago, my average was $500. This category also includes supplements, plus paper products, plastic wrap, laundry detergent and similar non-food consumables. The week days I go to town, I stack errands.

94F at my house right now. A bit warmer than predicted. I just went out to check on the hens - the water in their bowl seemed cool, but I dumped it out anyhow and filled their bowl with cold water and a big ice cube. There's quite a stiff breeze blowing - being in the shade helps make the heat tolerable. My AC is set at 73 and I have a fan going in the living room and it's comfortable.

    Stay cool, ladies!

    Hello my friends!

I'm late but I read through. I don't think I could handle an RV. I like my stuff and I like big showers. And where would I put my six bookcases? My rowing machine and stationary bike?

I got up from reading today and came back to find Dad sitting in my place. Next to my books my phone and my stuff. He is just oblivious.

I tried meetup and went to a few several years ago. It would be harder now as my availability is about ninety minutes a week depending on my sitter. I never was a sports person. I will keep looking for an activity. I could try a coffee place, maybe. But my sister is coming next week, and the following week I have the sitter for a medical thing. So I have time to look around.

May you all be happy, healthy, safe and free!

Called TruGreen and canceled our contract. The guy just drove his heavy machinery across our edging, bending it to the point where we’ll have to replace it. Which is a real PITA.

Been taking my walks, working, working on the puzzle, going to ceramics, bowling.

Heard from a lady at the condo. She’s the one who remembers MIL. Well, she wasn’t at the condo this winter (she usually went for the winters and to her condo in Ohio for the summers). She’s 90 and hasn’t been in good health. Well, what do you expect at 90? Anyway, she called to say that her children cleared out her condo and put it up for sale. It’s just real sad knowing that I’ll never see her again. She sounded so despondent when she told me, I get the feeling that her kids just said “we’re selling the condo”. Maybe I’m wrong. Then again, I don’t know all the facts. Perhaps her children just don’t want to have the annual “talk”, her wanting to go to FL, them not wanting her to. So she can’t if there isn’t any place to go to. I don’t know.

Went to the MD about my dry cough. He gave me these antibiotics and some cough pills. They seem to be working. I’m not completely over it, but I don’t think I’m coughing as much. He said that it was probably bronchitis.

Have an appt to get my hair cut next wed. I just want to go before the new batch of students come in.

Mo – whenever we go traveling, I usually take my food with me. Vince likes to stop at fast food places and I don’t care at all for the food (usually). Wendy’s is OK since you can get a salad. Subway is decent. I don’t like going to McD’s, mainly because I can’t fill up my water bottles there. Your hubby would be embarrassed to eat with me. Vince feels that we should sit in the back of the restaurant … lol

Flea – I’d never heard of CBD salve. Where do you get it?

Annie – I’m so sorry you had to quit horseback riding. I know how much you loved it. Sure s***s getting old, doesn’t it?

Lanette – one of the reasons I like to talk to the people at the soup kitchen is because so many of them have such interesting stories.

Mowed the part of the yard that I usually do the other day. I do need to get vince to get the deck at least welded because I suspect the guy who is cutting the grass right now will do it once a week regardless of whether it needs it or not during August (when the grass doesn’t grow as fast) because we’re on the schedule.

Cut the cat’s nails today. Boy, some of them were really long. Ran Buzz (robotic vacuum) yesterday. Should have done it today so he could have gotten all the nail clippings….lol

Rita last I heard one of my best friends from grade school lived in Ruidoso. Don’t know if she still does. I would think so but you never know. If she does, I do hope she’s OK

Rebecca a gal at work gave me a loaf of this keto bread. It was quite good. I did share it with another gal who I know does keto quite often. Not bad calorie-wise and 6g of protein, no artificial sweetener (don’t like them at all).

Still exercising on the days I don’t work. Did spinning one day, a body pump another, some of the rowing machine, went in the water and found out that the class starts later now.

One of my neighbors just put her house on the market. I knew it was coming. Her hubby passed away a little over a year ago. The other day I saw a moving van at her house. She’s a sweet lady

beth – good for you agreeing that those cupcakes cost 50 cents each. I remember telling my father that I’d gotten him a coat for half price. If he EVER knew how much I’d paid, he wouldn’t have worn it but would have wanted me to return it. But he needed it. So I “bought” it for half price.

Lisa – I remember Vince telling me that when he had surgery on his leg, they had him walking the next day. He was in so much pain that he was screaming. Their answer? Closed the door!

We had a short power outage the other day and my first instinct was to take a shower. Yup, take a shower. Because this is the first house we’ve owned in over 30 years that if the power goes out, we still have water. In other words, we’re not on a well.

Kim – yea for your friends

Personally, I like going into the grocery store and just browsing. To me, that’s fun. And you never know what you’ll find on the clearance table. One thing I don’t like about grocery pick up is that the people who are getting your order together don’t look at expiration dates. To me, that’s important. I’ve found things that would have expired that day.

Had to go to WM today. Totally forgot to get extra ground beef for Vince. Made manicotti for next week and also for the freezer. Made turkey and a meatloaf, for next week and the freezer. Then made some rice Krispie bars for Jess and Vince

I don’t mind baseball caps. But I do cringe when I see someone wearing one backwards. To me, that looks “ghetto”

Allie – here’s hoping you do have a great time in TN. So sorry you’re dealing with depression right now but glad you’re going to a psychiatrist. Unfortunately, it’s been so long since I’ve potty trained, that I don’t remember. KJ may very well have good ideas, tho. Oh, Rebecca just reminded me that Jess and Bryan went to daycare and Denise wanted to go but I told her she couldn’t until she was potty trained. She potty trained the next day. Talk about incentive!

Tina – so glad to hear you’re having such a great time. Isn’t it funny how the locals view the weather. The “locals” can’t stand the humidity. To me, having lived in PA, I would say that in the 17 years we’ve been down here I can count on one hand how many days I’d say it was humid. But the “locals” would definitely say much more.

Annie DE – would your dad go to the gym? There are Silver Sneakers programs and you could work out...and possibly meet someone. At the least, you can get friendly with some of the other people.

Pony – come in more often!

Share – welcome! Sit a spell and have a tall glass of ice tea(unsweetened)

Allie – tracey wanted the kids so she has to deal with it????? Don’t let me near Kyle, glad I live in NC

Flea – you won’t believe how many of the people at the soup kitchen sit and sit and sit at lunch time. I know it’s to be in the a/c or heat

Off to a shower and then maybe some of the puzzle

Yep the keto bread I eat is made by Healthy Life and is a 5 seed bread. Its small slices so just enough to hold my sandwich ingredients. Its also fluffy. I keep it in the freezer so it will last longer.👍🏼💖

Stay cool! (its only 70's here, it won't get any warmer).

I like looking at the interiors of the large RVs too. We just don't see the really big ones here … but then they'd be a nightmare to drive on the roads in Tasmania!

Our house is quite open plan … on one half … and I love that!

A library, in itself, is not a great place to meet people. When I go to a library, I want the silence and no one disturbing me. However sometimes libraries have talks or short courses which might be better places to meet people.

A coffee place … it depends. Again, when I go to a coffee place, I want to be left alone. But that might just be me … I probably send off all sorts of "leave me alone" vibes.

I agree with the idea of taking classes. If you can devote an hour or two at the same time each week, classes are a great way of learning something new and meeting people.

And the classes could be anything … some of them might be short (a few weeks), some of them might be longer (10+ weeks)

    • fencing (swords) classes
    • swimming classes
    • spinning (bicycle) classes
    • spinning (cloth) classes
    • dance classes
    • pottery classes
    • painting … drawing … art of some sort
    • languages
    • project management
    • just about anything.

There are also talks, seminars, workshops, etc. That's where Meetup, Eventbrite, etc. might come in.

Or what about taking your dog to a dog walking park?

Hope you enjoy every minute of your time alone while the house mate is gone.
I did enjoy the weekend. Could use a few more days.
I did get some things done but not as much as I wanted. Dh came home and hasn't noticed one thing. He pretty much came in, dropped the stuff from the show on the couch and went to watch tv in his second room/son's old room
Tomorrow I will start sewing beings that was a big thing on my list that I didn't get to.

I love all the venues you get to be a part of- so diverse-

Dh and I were just talking this week about if we want to go back to CO again- he was born at the Air Force Academy hospital in Colorado Springs- we have gone a few times. My favorites are the Olympic Training Center which was Ent AFB when his dad was stationed there and Celestial Seasonings Tea factory-love their tasting room and tour(and they are both free)

    On grocery shopping …

As mentioned, I order our groceries online and have them delivered, and have done for 7 years.

I have a fairly fixed grocery list, but now and then I like to look for new ideas. And I can do that very easily online. I just browse the pages like I would browse for something on a department store site or Amazon. 😊

I also like to choose most of my own produce, and I do that during my lunch break from work. I can order groceries online to be delivered AND I can purchase my own produce separately. Ordering groceries online does not mean that I have to get all my groceries that way. There's a fresh fruit and veg place not far from where I work, so I often pick up produce there. 🍇🍊🥝

I don't think I've ever encountered problems with expiry dates among the groceries we have received … or if we have, it has happened so rarely I don't remember.

And online, there are frequently sales and sometimes online-only sales that are not available to people who shop in person.

    All that, plus convenience!

Yes, there are substitutions from time to time, but the vast majority of the time, the substitutions are fine. Maybe once a year there has been something I haven't wanted - not a big deal.

    Morning, my chicks,

Well, the RV thing got a conversation going, didn't it! 😅

Machka - I grew up in what was just called a "trailer" moving back and forth between Texas and Montana until I was 6 years old. I remember it vividly. I had a reoccurring nightmare about animal horns poking through the hallway floor as I was trying to run down it.

    image.png

But Corey and I have, since we've been married, also lived in two different RVs: A 5th wheel trailer for about six months, one of the ones where the bedroom area rises up above the pickup bed.

We also lived in a pull-behind trailer, with no inside split levels, when we lived behind a warehouse for about a year in West Texas—we built an apartment into the warehouse while we lived in the RV. The pic looks like the two different types we lived in, basically. I'd show you a floor plan, but ours were both older, without any slide-out sections, and they ALL have slide-outs now, it seems.

A big luxury RV would eliminate the issues we had with both of those - the inside steps of the 5th wheel (I fell down them more than once when we had it) and the lack of space inside the pull-behind.

I get what you're saying, though, and I also had issues with that sense of knowing EXACTLY where the other person was and usually exactly what they were doing, since it wasn't on a foundation. Found that I got used to it after a month or so and was able to ignore it. Like you, Machka, I couldn't quite sleep through it, but I'm always the one who's up first, so it's a moot point for us. It is inescapable in an RV.

The RV we looked at Saturday was honestly REALLY close to what we're looking for, and if we had $139,000, I would have said, "Let's buy it!" and we could have had it for a second home over the next few years! 🤣🐈‍⬛ We do not have that much money, unfortunately. And don't know an awful lot of people who do. If you want to look at the actual pics: https://www.crabtreerv.com/product/used-2016-thor-motor-coach-venetian-a40-2754649-10

The price for that 342 square feet house on wheels is almost twice as much as we paid for the house we live in, which is a 3-bedroom, bath and a half house that comprises just over 2,000 square feet, sitting on 11 acres of mostly forested land.

We paid $75,000 for the house we live in, which we purchased seven years ago this week.

This is the full layout of our current (and possibly final?) house drawn to scale:

For perspective, my living room and craft room combined are 442 sq ft of area, almost 30 percent more than the entire RV. And the house is very much not an open plan, which we both prefer.

Anyway… four years prior to purchase is a long, long time, although it will seem like it's gone in a blink when we get there. What it does give us is something to talk about (like Tracey and Rodger) and something to dream about (like Michele and Vince's and Heather and John's cruises) and none of the things I need to do are a bad thing if it doesn't actually come true - like getting my shoulders and my knees in good shape, like getting healthy enough that I can go six months without an injected medication, and like continuing to declutter and get rid of those things we don't use and don't need.

Will pop back in a bit later - I've got a PT appt. at 12:30, so I need to get a shower in and get whatever I can done with the house.

    Later, mah babies,
    Love,
