One month ago today, we lost our yogi. Still hard to wake up and noticing he’s not here, going to bed noticing he’s not following us to bed or jumping on the bed giving us kisses. Really hard to make salads (I eat lots of salads) knowing I don’t have my garbage disposal right there. We miss you so much.

Heather - great article. Keep finding joy. Focus on gratitude. I try to find something to be curious about, even if it's the strange car that was in my neighbor's driveway, lol. Sorry about the pain and loo visits, hope it clears up quickly.
Pip - Luna looks perfect. Crossing fingers for you and Kirby. When will you know? Maybe they have to come to your house for an evaluation? Some places are getting strict and that's a good idea. I can't believe Yogi has been gone a month already. I know what you mean about garbage disposal. They are so good at training us.😁
Allie - sounds like you're having a good time catching up with everyone. Nice that you're able to stay a bit longer.
Annie- could you add or change the beneficiary for your 401K? Even list a charity. Can probably be done online. After DH died, I had to change all my beneficiaries. At my bank, for a local charity, I had to get their EIN number if I remember right. Great job on the rower. Nice to have your sis there for a while and take some of the caregiver pressure off you. It will be interesting to see if she notices any big change in dad since she was there last. Sometimes when we're around folks all the time we don't realize these things.
Tracey - I can just see you waving your arms and yelling at those magpies, that's something I'd do too. Great photo of you and Rodger - do you look at it and think - who are those kids? 😁
I think those regulations for seniors driving is a good idea. I just checked Washington DOL website which says if a person is over 70 they need to renew in person and pass a vision test. I wonder if these are new rules - I renewed online several years ago when I was over 70. Maybe it's because I renewed in person before when I got the enhanced license? Mine doesn't expire until 2030 and I could have significant vision or physical and mental changes by then. Good grief.
Barbie - years ago I'd love to stop at yard sales and buy things whether I needed them or not. 😁 I'm thinking now I might stop and drop off a few items when no one is looking, lol. I have stickers so can pre-price them CHEAP so they move.
Lisa - I would also love to hear from Vicki and Meg and Kay - wondering how her mom is doing with the pup.
Got my 1/2 mile street walk done and blueberries picked (at another neighbor's) by 6 am. For as much as I often feel overwhelmed by this place, I can't imagine living anywhere else right now. So much wildlife activity - fawns were back yesterday. I put bird seed on the deck rail and a fluffy fledgling sparrow showed up. Its mommy landed beside it and continued to pick up seed and feed it while it hunkered down, just as she did when it was a wee baby. And the absolute best neighbors in the world. I can see why John, 92, who lives next door, doesn't want to leave until he's hauled out feet first in the "meat wagon" as he calls it.😁
Reminder - tomorrow is Weekly Check-in for those participating.
Make it a fabulous day!

I slept for three hours this morning, and another two hours this afternoon. It seems to be a kind of flu, with all over aches and pains. The strange thing is the pain in the butt. Never had that symptom before. Definitely not food poisoning.
I hope John doesn't catch it off me, as he has a busy week with cricket and the kids. He's taking Max to cricket on Thursday and Max is buying him lunch. Fatto a Mano is about 5 mins away. Girls on Wednesday, plus Max who wants to do paid odd jobs to earn money for a keyboard. Could be car cleaning. And cricket on Tuesday.
I have been drinking tea, taking paracetamol, which really helps, staying in bed, and not eating. I'm beginning to feel hungry, so will have a very light egg supper.
Hope I feel better tomorrow! 😏

One way I am trying to reduce oxalate is by only having fewer oxalate foods in my meals. An example is I had a salad for lunch that would usually add cashews. Since it already had a small amount of avocado and fresh tomatoes no cashews. If I didn't put on the avocado I I could have had a few cashews. So I am still eating plenty and variety I just trying to switch out from foods with less oxalate. Instead of a half a bar of chocolate only a quarter per day. I don't look at it as a strict diet rather a diet that fits me to become healthier.
I am still trying to figure out how not to get so dehydrated at night. I think that is the root of my leg cramping. Ideas…

I agree with you in the participation award nonsense. While its nice to get something saying you attended etc, the no winners or losers is not teaching them the realities of life. Gracefully losing is something to learn, and humbly winning is a good thing to learn as well. Coaches play a big part in a child's self esteem. They could either build their confidence, or shatter it. Many kids nowadays don't get as much leadership from adults, and it shows in young adults having issues. That's my views anyways.👍🏼🙃
UuuUuuck, a 93 temp pool. The resort pool would get warm in the afternoon too! We'd usually all take naps in the shade somewhere. We had to recharge so we could attend the dance that night in the lounge. (Picture a low budget Hugh Hefner party, with less clothes, more nighties and dare I say thongs). I sometimes wore a lace dress (my youngest son called it "invisible clothing"😂😂). But 90% of the time I wore a nice swag around my waist, some nice jewelry, and drank a LOT of water as we danced to 70-80's music.

Carol,
I have never bought eyeliner in my entire life!😁😂🙃. I think there would be major problems if ever I used some! Drives my eldest sister crazy because she's always trying to put something on me, before we go out somewhere. "Let me put some blush on you, or here you need mascara"!! I sometimes flee, but most of the time I let her do it. Its just too tiring to argue!😂

Machka,
I will read the manuals etc and maybe drive in an empty parking lot so at least I know what do to. My knee jerk reaction if anything happened to husband is to just sell the car, but that's not reality. I need to be more brave about it all.

Yesterday was a struggle to just EAT! I had my 5 Shrimp dusted with Old Bay and 1/3 cup of protein cheesy pasta. I struggled to finish. Then I had planned my protein pizza but it was just a no. I ate 6 chicken nuggets, some red bell pepper slices, 5 cherry tomatoes with a T. of fat free dressing. I was supposed to eat a protein bar and shake, and managed to eat half. This no appetite is fierce! But I have to eat regardless.
This medicine Zepbound changes how my brain feels about food. My responses aren't there anymore, which is weird, but all normal. If I don't eat enough, my body will rebel and hold onto everything, its a smart cookie. If I don't drink enough, my body with not process what I do eat well, constipation city! Its a whole thing.🙃🙄. These types of medications aren't just "you take an injection and lose weight", nor is is just a magical dose. I have done a lot of work to try to make this medicine work. Even if I lose weight really slowly, I am proud of myself, for sticking with my eating regiment, and my daily logging. That has been a 180' change as what I did before, which was have way too much food during my eating window of my ruse of being an intermittent faster. It was a disaster. I did like how I felt when I was in fasting mode though, empty, lean. The food noise was deafening though! Like yesterday with the cheesy pasta. Before, I would put 1 cup of taco meat in a box of Mac and Cheese and practically eat the whole box. Maybe add a blob of sour cream in there too. Ridiculous! So the change is real!
My little Athena walked 3 miles at Silver falls with son and fam. My DIL posted that she was proud of her, even though she whined a lot.🙃

Rebecca - I'm really interested to see what maintenance will be like for you - I'm so pleased that this is working for you in happy ways you didn't expect. I can already see the weight loss in your face. You should be proud of yourself, and I'm glad you are. It's a massive change to go through.
Tracey - Love seeing that picture of you and Rodger. Such fresh-faced youngsters, with no idea what life would hold in store…
Allie - I'm SO glad the cousins are being good to you. You deserve family that is happy to see you and doesn't want anything from you.
Heather - So sorry you're ill. Hope it eases off quickly, and isn't contagious.
Lanette - Corey's sun room is my favorite place - watching the fireflies at dusk, the hummingbirds visiting the feeder or the blooms just below them, the cardinals and chickadees, the deer—especially when the persimmons ripen and get sweet - they love them. Every evening the woodchuck that lives under the red shed, comes out to hunt whatever woodchucks hunt, and Egg is always and forever hunting bugs and stalking the woodchuck. It's twice her size and at least as fast, so it pretty much just ignores her! I'm so glad you have neighbors you enjoy and trust.
Lovely relaxed Sunday, have been sitting crocheting, watching Sorted channel on YouTube, there's 15 years, literally hundreds and most are quite fun. Plus other forays into the Internet, of course. And texting with my daughter and friends, and just truly enjoying my day.
Tomorrow is PT and a stop to pick up some paint for the back bedroom. Not too happy with the paint that I've got, so will get something different.
Just finished my PT exercises for my shoulder, and Corey has a meatloaf baking. I seldom eat meatloaf, and this will probably be no exception. I'll probably just have another ham sandwich, like the one I had for breakfast. I've been on a ham sandwich kick lately.
There are worse things.

For dinner I steamed a pear with my Zucchini from my garden. I no longer microwave. The microwave was on the counter, and I love that it is down in the basement now! I have a double boiler. I boiled two small red potatoes (boiling reduces oxalate) to have with a roasted organic chicken.I added fresh dill to the potatoes with a pad of grass fed organic butter.
Dessert was a few blackberries one strawberry from my garden and some organic blueberries from the farmers market with a mix of my homemade yogurt and Fage. A few pecans on top with a touch of organic cinnamon from Asia, a tsp of wild blueberry jam sweetened with fruit juice juice with no sugar and half serving of dark chocolate with almonds. I used to eat a full serving.
To drink large glass of water and 4 oz of organic lemon berry Kombucha.
This meal has about half of the oxalate I was eating before.
I eat very well. I believe in quality over quantity…I rarely miss the items I used to eat… Chips, soda, cookies, icecream, cake, bread, overly processed food. I never ate artificially sweetened food. Aspartame and I do not get along! Savings from not eating these types of food help me afford better quality food.
For me this meal is just right I do a lot of work doing the day. Cleaned a large picture window, cleaned out more rock in a section of my garden to get rid of the weeds, walked from the back of the parking lot from church and shopping, walked DrewB twice half mile each time, mowed part of son's lawn, hand watered pots here and at son's house. Up and down stairs here at least 4-6 times. This is a typical amount to exercise I get daily so yes I am ready to eat at mealtimes. I rarely snack anymore.

the process is pretty extensive. It was a pretty detailed application. Today I got an email saying they received the application and forwarded it to the foster that is holding Luna. That was only one day turnaround hitch was quick! I would imagine they would come over to look at our place, etc. I submitted a $10 non refundable application fee. If we loose out on her then they or we can look for another dog. We will see what happens.

Did a Cardio Core Express DVD then a yoga for beginners DVD. Then took Ganon for a short walk around the block
pip – I thought you already had her! If you do, she’ll be one of the best taken care of dogs this side of the Atlantic
Rebecca – my first encounter with a car that shut off was when I visited my friend in Switzerland
I think I forgot to clear glaze two of the tires on my ceramic woody, so I asked the gal in charge if I did, would she glaze it for me and refire it.
Heather – feel better fast
Annie – have fun with your sister
Carol – last night they talked to us about staying downstairs. Changed their minds AGAIN. Last time it was upstairs. The only thing I’m a bit concerned about is planning dinners. I like to plan at least a few days ahead so I make sure I have all the ingredients, I really don’t like running to the store every day because I forgot something. Jess likes to go by the seat of her pants (plan at the last minute). So we shall see how that works. Otherwise, I think everything will work out.
Went to breakfast at First Watch. Truthfully, it is good but to me high priced. But I know Colby likes it. They left and I cut the grass then went in the pool then to WalMart had dinner then took Ganon for a walk around the block.
Rebecca – you said it so well regarding the “participation” awards. That’s how I feel. It’s really not giving the kids a taste of what life is like.
Last night Jess and Colby talked to us about them staying downstairs. Honestly, that’s what I’ve been proposing all along! I do hope they do it because I do believe that’s in their best interest. It would give Colby the most room for his work. In a week the movers will be here...doesn’t seem that long. I do need to talk to my neighbor to make sure it’s OK with her (I’m sure it will be) that the moving van be in their driveway and they use their handtruck to bring things into our basement. The reason they can’t drive right up to the door is because then the truck would be on the septic and the drainage field.
Took a shower, now ready for bed.

Heather - I hope you feel better soon.
It’s been a rainy weekend here this weekend. It’s been an odd summer actually. More rain than the last few.Annie - I’ve been doing a research study for three years now to give help on researching Alzheimer’s. I would assume if they saw something they would reach out.
I can’t believe they renewed your dad’s license, it’s good he doesn’t drive anymore.I hope you have a good visit with your sister and she’s willing to give you some time away from the house while she’s there.Barbie - sometimes my grammar just fails me. I can see where the confusion came from. Sorry to all of the teachers, I listened I really did. I struggled terribly with retention.
This had me laughing out loud.
https://youtu.be/edHHfOSBz_Q?si=_oPAgVt8eL8AgumsMachka - Grandchildren are so much fun.We had a rainy weekend too. I actually quite enjoyed it.
Lanette - I think it’s good to have curious neighbours, if something nefarious is going on someone might notice.
I can’t believe how young we looked and were!
I wasn’t even legal to have a drink but could get married. 😂Lisa - Corey’s sunroom sounds like a wonderful place to be.
I have three or four participation award ribbons from my childhood. I think there is nothing wrong with the acknowledgment that you participated if it’s also given with a dose of “keep trying, you’ll get it and a lesson on losing if required. Those ribbons I have o treasured because I was way out of my comfort zone even trying to play the sports I was playing. I hated sports, was always picked last and was teased terribly. I earned those ribbons.
Michele - I don’t know how I could handle anyone moving in with us.
I organized a couple shelves in my craftroom today. Didn’t really get rid of anything just tidied it up. Once that was done I made the bases for 4 more calendars. I’m trying to do this as much as possible using just scraps and things I have. I did buy some paper yesterday for the Autumn months and November for Remembrance Day.
I then had a bath and watched some tv. Now I should head to bed because the weekend is gone again. It always seems too fast.

Feeling much, much better this morning. I even slept for six and a half hours last night, after the five extra hours in the daytime. I woke up with the aches gone, and my mind alert and clear. Plus a revised idea of what to include in my next book! 😃 I'm going to talk about my experience of aging, as well as highlights from my Camden Town years. Title? 'I Am Now … and Then'. ???? I think it will be a positive and reflective book. With food. ☺️
I then did my half hour of exercises. Then I made a couple of charitable donations, to celebrate feeling better. The good thing about being ill, is that you feel so wonderful and grateful when it's over! Hair wash today to finish it off. Plus the cleaner is coming.
I expect a little crash this afternoon, but I can nap, and I really hope I haven't passed it on to John.

Hello everyone;
I slept all day after working. Still tired, but I managed to catch up with everyone. I will post more tomorrow. I got my steps in Saturday night. I believe my friend could be correct in saying that working until 70 may be difficult. I will work as I go. Have a good night's sleep, everyone. Rose is knocked out, so I'd better go to bed too.

Heather: It’s good to know that you are on the mend.
A wet front has moved in from the west, and it has rained most of the night. Temperature is more like what we are used to having.
Not planning anything special today. I shall write a little, do some chores, then maybe do a watercolour, and some craft.
New day! new week!
Have some fun! Eat! Sleep!
I’ve earned the means to do as I please! To work, or play, or take my ease.
So, all my skills I will employ,
to my fill my days with peace and joy.🤗🤗🤗 and 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 for those who need them.

Pleased with self. I've been trying hard to ignore my messages from my phone provider about 'upgrading', but thought I would have a look today. I've managed to get a new SIM only contract for almost half price, which includes European roaming, which I used to pay extra for! The only catch is they've stuck on some insurance, which is free for 3 months and then you have to cancel. I've tried cancelling it now, but there doesn't seem to be a way. I've put it in my diary to cancel later.
I think I must have saved about a hundred and forty pounds this next billing year as I will be in Europe for 5 weeks, as well as the monthly savings.
This is my son and his partner at her daughter's uni graduation. He looks very spiffing! He is very fond of the daughter and they get on well.

I have been a lifelong learner too. I have three Master's degrees all with military financial support. Many people react to that as though I did it to insult them. I can't even list the degrees on my resume because people get offended at excess education. It's a sore point for me.
Annie, I found that was the case during the early 1990s recession.
In the area where I am now (government), degrees are desirable as a person moves up the ladder. There have been a number of us taking courses … and letting our managers and other managers know.
Barbara, when I lived in Manitoba where there were many skunks, people used tomato juice to wash their pets, themselves, etc.
My energy level has been low since we got back from our trip. I'm hoping it picks up soon. I've got stuff to do!
Meanwhile, the books I had on hold in Libby are coming in! I've got a bit of reading to do.

Hey, kids,
Just a quick visit—the usual Monday morning chores in progress, laundry, getting meds sorted for the week. My 12:30 PT appointment is tickling my brain, so I need to set a couple alarms on my phone, one to get in the shower, one to head for the appointment. Been watching the little "How to ADHD" girl. If you follow Cas, the Clutterbug, she's the one Cas reorganized in a day. Anyone who has ADHD could learn a lot from her. And Cas, who also has it.
What that tells me is that the brain tickling that appointments cause me is pretty typical… I know how absorbed I can get in whatever I'm working on, and am afraid I'll miss an appointment. This may be because, in the military, it can be boiled up into what's called "Missing a Movement" and can get you in a whole lot of trouble, according to whether it's a ship, an aircraft, or a land unit that's moving from one place to another. It's one step short of desertion, and is punishable. Would they punish you for a missed medical appointment? Probably not. But it's impressed on you very, very early. It apparently stuck in my impressionable little brain.
Anyway, I got stuff to do, my dears, and will drop in later, most like.
Do love y'all,
Lisa in AR5 -
I appreciate your encouragement! I do weigh myself every day, but just trying to see the ebb and flow of how this medicine shows up on the scale. After dose day I usually do a hiccup in weight, then a loss. Its usually on a day I have eaten on the high end surprisingly. To have this nice relationship with my scale, as a helper and not the spawn of Satan sitting on the bathroom floor is refreshing too.😁

I love that kind of meal, it has a careful, mindful approach, and it harkens back to our hunt and gatherers lifestyle. It makes me smile to put healthy items on the counter, and know that these things when chopped, steamed or baked with be my fuel for the day. I remember watching a BBC program that would pile a days worth of food on a table as a visual for the people highlighted on the show. It was pretty horrendous! Then show them how much sugar they consumed in a year like a huge pile. My pile these days would be pretty and something I can be proud to show people.
I still use a microwave though🙃
