Hey JFT Friends! I’m back from vacationing at my dad’s on the lake. Was really nice to see him. Very relaxing to sit by the water, listen to the loons, frogs, waves and silence. We fished some, and boy were they ever biting! Had a fish on with every cast. So fun. Was great to see my dad and stepmom. His health is going down fast, and he was weaker than I’ve ever seen him. So it was a bittersweet visit and it certainly didn’t feel long enough. Hoping to get up there again late summer/early fall. It was a long *kitten* ride though!
I’m really behind in posts, so I will have to catch up over the next few days. Just know I’m cheering your successes and good news and I’m praying for those of you who are having struggles. 😊

Stayed a little later to play pool, but still made it to be by 11:00pm. Didn't sleep well until hubby left for work. His snoring was next level last night. Then once I got solidly to sleep I did not want to get up. No real plans today.

Good morning JFT friends! I’m taking advantage of it not being too hot of a morning and having coffee out on our deck. I had promised myself last winter that I would have at least one cup of coffee outside every morning this summer, and I havent done it once. I think it’s time I start following through doing things that I tell myself I’m going to do! Listening to the birds and watching the squirrels is a lovely way to start the day. 😎 we are going to have a high of 86° with scattered thunderstorms today so I will enjoy the weather while I can. We had storms go through last night. We didn’t have any damage in our yard but there was a tornado near my daughter’s city west of us, and another tornado about an hour north of here by a friend of mine. We had a downpour of rain, so we certainly won’t need to water our tomato plants today!
I gained 1 pound while I was in Minnesota at my dad’s lake. I usually game five, so I guess that’s kind of a win. But I have noticed that lately I have been grabbing a lot of food mindlessly when I’m not even hungry. I eat when I’m sad, I eat to celebrate when I’m happy, and I eat when I’m bored or tired instead of finding something to do or just going to bed earlier. I need to get better at journaling every bite that I eat in MFP. Yesterday I journaled every single thing that I ate and I can’t believe how many calories I consumed. Usually if I grab a handful of Cheez-Its, or some thing, my brain thinks it doesn’t count. MFP’s food diary certainly does not agree! 😂🤷🏼♀️😬Today is grocery day. I dread going to Woodman’s. It’s one of my most disliked chores. People have gotten so rude and it’s such a busy place…ugh.
Hope everyone has a nice day!

@PackerFanInGB Welcome home! Glad you got to visit with your dad and enjoy your happy place. I love to sit on our patio, for meals or coffee or just enjoy the day. Sometimes hubby and I will play a game at the table. We have 7 large trees, so along with bird feeders & birdbaths, we get quite a few birds. Plus the usual chipmunks, squirrels, and bunnies. The other day we saw a woodchuck in the neighbor's yard… they had a dead pine cut down last spring and never removed an 8' trunk section or the smaller branches, so it's a haven for animals. With weeds growing all around that, looks a mess, but we can't control what the neighbors do. But we do enjoy our patio while doggo enjoys her time in the backyard with us.

JFT 7/24 R ~ Rain gauge had 1.3" from yesterday so rain barrels overflowed (again). We have a few small branches down in yard from winds. Heat not quite as bad today, but very steamy out, confirmed by condensation on window glass by our front door. Ick. When my alarm went off, I checked weather app and, since temp never really cooled down, decided to skip dog walk this morning. Hopefully tomorrow.

@cschmitz110515- I also like to be able to listen to the birds and nature sounds when walking. Not to mention I like to be aware of my surroundings.. the heat advisory sounds absolutely awful, I am sorry your dealing with that. You must be in the south ? We hit the high of 70's today and I nearly died of heat when we were out hiking.. I am definitely not made for the heat. We are starting to heat up to summer temps now but its been a pretty cool July overall. I am grateful for that since it keep the fire activity down.
@PackerFanInGB - sounds like you had a very nice visit with your dad. Coffee on the front porch watching the sun come up is my favorite thing in the summer.. everything is quiet and still .
Isn't it amazing how too many calories can creep up like that? awareness is half the battle I suppose. yesterday I had such a craving for something sweet after lunch that I ate a large bowl of ice cream. It was good but then I didn't feel so great after and even into the evening , went to bed with a bit of an unhappy stomach. I have been craving sweets too much lately. Time to figure something else to slay that dragon, because she can be a beast..
JFT Thursday
I had taken today off from work. My brother left to head back home. It was nice to see him but we didn't get to spend a ton of time together since he stayed with my parents. My sister who is still here leaves Sat morning very early. Its been nice to have her here .
We went for a hike today in GNP but the plan backfired because I forgot to try to get a timed entry ticket which menats we could not drive the GTS road and get to our trailhead with our own vehicle, however we could get the shuttle to the trailhead. By the time we found a parking spot and figured out where we needed to go to get on this shuttle the line was very very long. I walked up to the front of the line to read the sign and to get an idea of how fast things were moving . The shuttle shows up every 15 minutes and can fit about 15 -20 people at most. I asked a girl who was closer to the front (but still probably 4 shuttle rides away from her turn judging from the number of people in front of her) , how long she had been in line. She said 1h45min. That decided for us. We were not going to wait . It would likely be 3 hrs before we got on any shuttle ourselves with all the people in front of us. So I was bummed because it was a wasted entry fee into the park. SO MANY PEOPLE. I should have known better honestly. There is a reason I never go into the park in the summer.. Its just not enjoyable like that. It completely takes away from the experience.
Nonetheless we went back home and hiked a well known trail closer to town that I hike alot when I want to do a hill day. It was rough today , I was having a really hard time with my heart rate spiking plus I got so sweaty as it got pretty warm for me. We have had so much rain lately that it was a bit muggy .I got a bit nauseated at one point and had to stop for a bit. My sister who never does hills did a lot better than me (she is some kind of freak of nature ) , but she was tired tonight. I think I was having an off day. I am probably going to be sore tomorrow and the next day but I got a good workout atleast.

Still struggling with exhaustion. Was so tired at dinner last night that I barely made it through the meal. I head back to neurology today for a follow-up on my in home sleep study. Probably a wasted appointment as I've already read the report that basically just rules out sleep apnea. Hopefully there will be a "next step" in trying to figure out my issues. Wish me luck. I may just take the second half of the day "off". Well, take my laptop home after the appointment and take 2 calls.

@HappyDonkey75 Haha, no I'm not in the south at all, Green Bay Wis. But we've had so many hot (80s/90s) & humid days, which I personally hate, and more than a few heat advisories this year (heat index 100+). Just sucks all the energy out of me, not good for long dog walks, and hubby and I stay in the house with AC. Not how I want to spend summer days, knowing we'll be forced indoors in the winter. Too bad about your GNP trip but glad you had good family times anyhow. I'm glad I visited GNP before all the timed entry stuff became a thing.

JFT Saturday
Took my sis to the airport so it was a very early morning (3:00 am wake up time to get to airport by 4:00 am) Came home, went back to bed for an hour and then up again because dogs were restless
Had an unexpected surprise situation sort of just workout randomly. Been trying to get one of our vehicles (the second truck) ready to sell as we are downsizing and have decided having two trucks just isn't needed any longer. I did some research online and got an idea of the value on the KBB site . It turns out local dealers can see the info on your vehicle when you enter it and then can make you offers if they are interested. I didn't really have any expectations but surprisingly I got contacted pretty quick by three dealers, two were in our immediate area. I hate trying to work with car dealers and salesman for auto, they always seem so .. sales-y and pushy. So I decided what the heck, and brought the vehicle in for one dealer to look at and test drive, thinking it was going to be a total waste of time and them trying to get me to "trade-in" which I don't want to do since you almost always end up losing money on trade-ins.
Turns it out , it was not that way at all. The dealer made me a very good offer . I was shocked. Just to make sure I was getting the best deal possible I reached out to the second dealer that had contacted me and gave them a shot at an offer as well. That was not as positive experience and their offer came in 2K lower than the first. It was nice to know that I had gotten what I was pretty sure the best deal I could have gotten . Better yet, I won't have to try to sell the truck on my own and deal with all that hassle .
So Monday I go in and sign off , get my check and walk away. I will be sad to not have the truck anymore but I won't miss the payment. I have my older car I can still drive (and basically prefer to drive everywhere anyways) . Its very high mileage and does need replaced but it runs well for now and it's paid for. I can take my time to look for an affordable replacement over the next few months. I was checking out carvana, but not sure about it yet. its alot of rental returns vehicles. Anyone else have any experience buying off that site?

Happy Sunday! It's the start of a brand new week. And I plan on working toward healthier habits.
@HappyDonkey75 Congrats on selling the truck! What a nice surprise! I didn't know dealers could see when you enter info on KBB. I'll have to remember that. I have not used carvana either. I am hoping our Honda Pilot lasts a few more years before we have to replace it…i should have medical bills caught up by then and can take on a payment…but boy do I hate having a car payment.
@cschmitz110515 I would love to have all the wildlife in our backyard as you do. We haven't been able to hang feeders out back in a couple of years now because of rats! The city sends letters to different neighborhoods asking them not to and we got a letter the past few years. Our yard and our neighborhood, actually, is very well kept up and clean but I think because we are close to Lambeau field and restaurants and the river, those little suckers come into our area and stay if they find a food source. My husband set up a trail cam out back last year because the bird seed on the ground was being eaten really fast and seemed to be disappearing at night, and sure enough there was a darn rat coming up through a drain in our neighbor's backyard. So, down came the feeders and I've missed them ever since. We still have robins, chickadees, sparrows, cardinals and pigeons but we used to see so many more. It's a bummer, for sure. Don't want our dog getting bit though if one decides to hide out in our woodpile behind the garage.
This week, I plan on paying more attention to mindless grab-assing snacks, drinking 60+ oz water daily, 60 minutes of movement, and cooking more meals from whole food vs processed stuff. It's time for me to stop listening to podcasts and reading up on healthy habits and actually starting DOING something. Less learning, more doing!

@HappyDonkey75 Great news on selling your truck so easily! I sold my 2012 Honda Civic to a co-worker (we both got a fair deal) a few months after I retired in 2022… no need to keep so many vehicles. Hubby still has his old 2000 SUV for times when I'm gone, and he'll never part with his precious conversion van. I got his "good" SUV, and it's already 15 yo! Hubby and I tend to keep cars until they drop but we're diligent about maintenance. I've never used Carvana myself but our neighbors did… they got rid of one vehicle (traded?) and had another delivered at the same time. Not sure how their experience was, but they must do a TON of shopping online bc we constantly see delivery vehicles at their house. Of course, they're much younger than us, and that's probably their normal LOL.
@PackerFanInGB Sorry to hear about the rat situation. I am aware of that in the city, and so far we've never had a problem in our area, or a letter from the city. We have firewood stacked way in the back, from when several trees had to come down, bc we have a wood-burning fireplace. We did see a rat, a few years ago, come out from the wood and eat under the nearest bird feeder on snow in broad daylight! Freaked me out. That lasted 1-2 days, then I watched a hawk catch & fly off with it, just like hubby predicted. Yay! None since, thankfully. If I had to I'd empty my feeders but would miss them terribly bc I've always had them, at my parents, then at my first house before hubby.

Weekend was uneventful. Mostly cleaning and my great nephews birthday party. Other than that, I don't think I did much. Food wasn't too bad. I skipped the cupcakes and just had one hot dog at the b-day party. Today is work and blood donation. Well assuming my iron is in range this go around.
I was correct, the appointment with neurology was a waste of time. No answers, but he prescribed me something to help with daytime sleepiness. Unfortunately, the insurance will not approve the medication. I have to figure something out. If I am not actively doing something, I'm a mess. Work is even a challenge some days.
On the mom front, one of the neighbors called Saturday to let me know mom is stealing things from their porch at night. They have her on camera. The latest was a $300 pair of work boots. Mom couldn't find them, so I had to reimburse the family for the boots. She also apparently tried to take someone's dog one night. I just don't know what to do with this situation.
Work is weird right now. The plant is shutdown due to a maintenance issue in the lead process. Everybody is trying to figure out just how bad it is. Hubby is in the middle of it all. He has worked 20 days straight 12-16 hours a day. Due to fatigue management policy, he took yesterday off, but boy was he cranky. I'll give him a pass, he sprained is ankle Thursday evening and felt he needed to mow. That didn't feel good, and the dog was driving him up the wall. He did take a little time for himself and go to the movies yesterday evening.

Good morning JFTers! It’s another hot & humid day in Wisconsin. I love summer, but i think I’d rather deal with winter than this humidity. (Did I just say that out loud? Ooops!) Today we need to do some grocery shopping 🛒 which is definitely NOT my happy place. Hoping t9 get it done early this morning so I can get on with my day and hit my son’s pool. It’s beautiful outside on the deck right now but I can feel the humidity already.
@cschmitz110515. I hate it when I find the “evil pricker weeds” before I put my gloves on! 😁 I had to chuckle at that, but I was really impressed you were out there pulling weeds in yesterday’s weather! And the Packer 5k you did in the heat too! Dangggg! You’re a way better woman than I am! I hide in the house in this heat… 😃💪
Shout out to @Bex953172 I hope you, Ash, the girls and Ash’s dad are doing well. Thinking about you. ❤️
Yesterday was a good day food and activity wise. I did see that I’m eating way too many carbs and fat and not enough protein. Funny how noticeable it is if you just log your food in MFP, huh? 😬😉
I hope everyone has a wonderful day and a great week!
