Thanks for posting the new month thread.
Talked to my sister last night and again just now.
She still can barely talk above a whisper, just like when I went to see her almost 2 weeks ago, left leg is now swelling along with being numb, has a wheezy cough but the doctor there at the care home is pretty much just brushing her off. He tried to blame the swelling from an infection from a tattoo she got- problem with that is that the tattoo is over 10 yrs old. He just kept poking at it- she has no fever.
Well she is now back in the hospital- Pneumonia and ?? Thankful that she will see a doctor who will listen and try and find out what is going on. I hope she can get transferred to another care home.
She was supposed to see the surgeon tomorrow to see if he wanted to do surgery on her vertebrae but will have to cancel it. She doesn't want surgery if she can get away with it.Just finished getting all of our 3D printed things packed in the bags and ready to load into the car tomorrow night. Leaving by 4:45AM on Saturday to do a show 3 hrs north of us. I hope it is worth it.
I enjoy doing the shows but it is a lot of work. My car(Nissan Sentra) will be totally full with stuff. Takes about an hour to get all set up- show is 10-5:30 but early access is at 9 so we have to be set up early.
I have aqua zumba tomorrow night so got everything, except packing the snacks/food, done this evening. I didn't go to the last show so dh just packed any way he could. I have it the way I like so set up will be easier, hopefully- just don't know how much room we will have. We have so much to sell and not a lot of space.check out the pictures I took at mom's when we were there on Tuesday.
Magazines that are from '31 and '36 that had my great grandmother's rural address that was about 3 miles from mom's house(they had moved long before we brought the property)
She didn't remember where they came from or bringing them out of the sewing room.(they were by her recliner) Made her cry-missing Grandma Bee.12 -
Debbie - Love the magazines! Real treasures. My favourite era for style.
I dreamt about Allan all night. Early this morning, I was dreaming I was telling my DDIL the story of how we met. My son did meet him in real life, as he visited me in our home at the time. I haven't told John yet about his death, though he does know I went out with him.
John and I met at the same pub as Allan and I went to on our first date. Both were through the Guardian dating service called Soulmates. I arranged to meet John there as I was already familiar with it through Allan. So I gave Allan his second wife, and he gave me John. 🤗

Barbie - thank you for bringing us into August. Time marches - no, races on!
So I went to the road crew BBQ again last night, hosted by the same couple where I also attended several weeks ago. T and her husband couldn't make it, so I went alone which was not a big deal since I already knew a lot of the folks there.
A little excitement. I happened to find an empty chair next to some old fella (likely age 70'ish) who, as I soon discovered, was quite drunk. I can be social sometimes and chit chat with strangers and after a few minutes, this guy told me I was his type and asked me several times to come over to his house some time to watch movies, etc. Said his wife had died, and that he was so lonely. Asked me if I got lonely and I said nope and maybe he should start going to the senior center. I tried to be nice but firm and get across that I did not want or need male companionship right now. I thought he was going to cry. Or puke - he was that hammered and could barely talk - eyes kind of glazed. I wondered later if he had a medical issue.
I managed to escape into the garage to see how the meal fixin's were coming along and there were a couple other guys in there refilling their beverages (the host makes very popular hard apple cider) and they were commenting about this poor guy's behavior and how he was hitting on me. I didn't realize it was so obvious.
We had a good laugh, and I thought wow, this took me back 50 years and reminded me of some frat parties I used to attend. 😁
Make it a fabulous month, ladies. 🤩

Morning, my lovelies, and happy August,
August always makes me remember that summer won't last forever, because the kids are starting back to school already in different areas. That means fall will be in the air soon, and because I was raised in Texas, that means Friday night football can't be far behind. We're close enough to the school that we can just barely hear the bands when the bass drum player is being particularly loud. We usually know when there's a home game.
My goals for July were the same they were for every month -
- Be lighter - ✅- Was 162 at the beginning of July, and am at 157 the 1st of August. Quite pleased with that, AND that I've maintained that all this week.
- Be healthier - ✅- The new meds are doing good things for my gut, worst day in weeks was yesterday, and it still wasn't as bad as my best days before they upped the dose. Pleased with that. Plus the steroid shot in the ouchy shoulder and the PT are doing well for that, as well. The vertigo - don't really see it as a "health" issue, but I think it will pass reasonably soon.
- Stick to the budget -✅ - This is the first month I was able to put money into savings since we began all that it took to both obtain the small house in front of us and to demolish it. That all began in March, so it's been a while!
My goals for August will be the same again:
- Be lighter
- Be healthier
- Stick to the budget
More later, kids,
Love,

Hello All,
I am excited to be here. I worked very hard this week working out and eating right but saw no scale change, and I know there can be many reasons. I trudge on!
On a different note, does anyone else get at least 5 messages a day from guys wanting to know where you are from, if you have kids, if you have other apps, marital status... stop! I am not here for that and I AM happily married. Really, on MFP we are trolling for dates, scamming? I am not answering them anymore. Rant over!

😀 Lanette, I loved the story of the guy at the party hitting on you. My dog walking friend is occasionally approached by a male neighbor wondering if she'd like to go for coffee or something. She has been alone for about ten years and is fine with being alone. She has befriended her male neighbors but only as a friend, Like you, both of us a just fine alone and not interested in sharing with someone else.
😀 Heather, you've had such an interesting life. I love that you are able to share it with us.
😀 Kelli, Welcome. I've been using MFP for years and love the support I've gotten from this thread. I log food and exercise nearly every day. It takes time to see results but it's worth the effort. The best way to deal with annoying messages is to ignore them. I hope you'll keep coming back and become part of our friendly community.
😀 I got up extra early this morning so I'll have time for a long walk followed by watering my yard. I love my yard. I've worked to make it the way I want it for the dogs and me and I want to keep it that way.
😀 Three weeks ago I jumped through all the necessary hoops to change the withholding on my three sources of income and today I got confirmation that the last of the three has take effect. One more box checked on all the paperwork. This has been a long journey. One day at a time.

Made it through last two days of work. The party I did not want was really very niche and thoughtful. I realized that some people needed the opportunity to say goodbye. Received many thoughtful gifts. More flowers than I needed! Have to tidy them up (and the gifts). Two brothers and their wives coming over today. One SIL going to let me know what furniture she can use. I had started keeping bins for movers in front room. Brother with Alzheimer's has been told I am retiring and moving but we don't know how he is processing. Will mover bins to back bedroom so he doesn't have to see them (trying to cut down on agitation).
Getting adjusted is what I am up to. Went for a walk to get the morning sun. Tripped on sidewalk because I was trying to see if a house had tornado damage. I have a scrapped knee and some bruises but nothing major. And I don't think too many people saw me!
Need to get moving on house. Enjoy the day.
Take care all,

Ginny … Happy Retirement!
Barbie … thanks for the August thread!
Kelli … the male friend requests, messages are ridiculous. I delete.
Goals … I stayed the same weight, but my overall blood labs showed improvement so I'll count that a win for July. However, my August goals are to move more, be lighter September 1st and be better hydrated (using a little log for that).

Went to Brighton with John today. I needed to get out of my head. . . I'm finding myself talking to Allan. 😚 Yes, my son did remember Allan. That made me happy. I think we all need a witness.
It was nice to just meander around a couple of shops with John. I was vaguely hoping to see a small oblong cushion for my bedroom chair, but no luck. Of course, the autumn/Halloween decorations were already out. Ended up just buying food in M&S. John left me at the bus stop, as he was walking home along the seafront.
Kedgeree tonight. I always add frozen peas, and we will have it with asparagus. Got to keep the veg quotient up.
Now to relax. Heather UK xxxxxxxx

Thanks, Barbie, for the august start!
Met 95% of my goals last month. Lucy has definitely helped! Speaking of Lucy, she sat around my neck like a fur wrap all the way to the vet yesterday (about 20 miles) but did not get sick. She is doing well but cannot be spayed until she goes through a heat. There is a medical issue we are hoping going through heat will repair. She is losing teeth on schedule and is almost full grown now at 10 pounds. The ride home was good too. She curled up in my arm and left leg and slept all the way home. I think the calming chews I bought for her were working even though the vet said they wouldn't work. Didn't hurt to try!
Water: my kidney doc asked how much water I am getting, and I told her I have a steel 40 oz water cup I take with me everywhere. The steel keeps the water cool. Even when left in the car for an hour! I drink 2 or 3 of these a day, plus a 16 oz bottle of either Propel or Gatorade Zero, and a 10 oz cup of tea. She said that I was getting plenty of water, maybe too much so to watch the color of my urine. If it get too clear to cut back on the water. Otherwise, I am doing great on the water to keep my kidney CKD at a 3A.
Working at the Visitor Center today. Not much else.

Ginny - Congratulations on your last day of work… and commiserations for the stumble! It's a terrible feeling, when you know you're going down and can't stop it. Hope there are no follow-on issues with that. Hope, too that your retirement is absolutely wonderful. You've prepared better than anyone I've ever known!
Lanette - I have such a hard time with even knowing I've been hit on that unless they're quite blunt, like your friend, I don't even know! Does make me uncomfortable when I figure it out, though. Regarding your question from last month, no, not a yarn wall, but more than a few boxes of it, nicely spun up and ready to crochet. I did TRY to learn to knit again, but just can't seem to get my brain to wrap around that… too many years of crochet, and just so much easier to go back to what I know, I guess. That said, I've learned a number of new crochet stitches and patterns, and am pleased to have branched out into a) actually making a garment and b) crocheting with yarns I've never used before - like the metallic one.
The pic is of Egg last night in my yarn sample box. As soon as I emptied it, she had to sit in it, and she and Corey were playing pat-a-cake through the plastic window on the box top.
At the moment, I'm working on another cardigan, but this time with bamboo yarn. It's got an interesting feel to the hand, really easy to work with. I did just break down and ordered a few more fine cotton yarns from Hobbii. The prices are predicted to go up soon for overseas goods, and wanted to get in under the wire. There's an oft-said notion in the crochet world that collecting yarn is a totally separate hobby than using it. Trying to get away from collecting and make sure I'm using it, and do, pretty much every day.
Got my writing in this morning, and still holding off on watering. Supposedly, we'll get a bit of rain in the afternoon. It'll only happen if it blows up right over our heads, though, right now, the radar is showing it missing us by 30 miles, curving around north of us. At least it's keeping the temperature lower.
Got to leave in a couple hours to go to PT, so might as well go get in the shower, and then I can relax for the rest of the morning. I'll let Corey do the watering when he gets home, if we don't get any rain…
Later, my chicks,
Love,

Some pansies to cheer on the day!
Another very unhealthy air quality day. Yesterday, I did with mask on get deck touch up painted in the spots DrewB damaged about a month ago. Took this long because the repair process takes about a week to get the wood filler right and then it was either too humid or rainy to get the painting done.
What surprises me is the number of people who are not wearing mask in this terrible quality air. Yesterday Chicago and Twin Cities had some of the worst air quality in the world. The temps and humidity were wonderful.
Weight this morning was 154.2 down slightly. Still being mindful about oxalate and eating whole food. (minimally processed) I cooked wild caught halibut last night I bought on sale. I cooked it in the juice of my veggies I had with it. I like it better than salmon. A very mild fish.
One plus of the mask on Wednesday during door concert is it kept me from buying from the food trucks. There was a wonderful looking fruit and chocolate bowl. We did not stay for the whole concert because I had to drive home a different way because of road construction and I wanted to drive the detour while it was still light out.
Handy man came and fixed the screen on my front storm door. I was going to get a new storm door for the back but the door he ordered got sold to someone else. I guess he took too long to pick it up. Fortunately no hurries on that door. He does good work so patience is the key. I will keep his number. Hopefully because I am being so patient if I had a true emergency repair he would be there. It is very hard to find good quality workers today.
He did me another favor…because he set up at the end of my driveway he was walking on the easement. In doing so he disturbed a nest of ground wasps. He had on boots and long pants so he wasn't effected. I would have been the next time I mowed this patch of ground. These are the same kind of wasps that attacked me a couple of years ago and ended up with a bad reaction because I had at least 12 stings. I have a pest control coming out next Tuesday. I will not go anywhere near that nest until they are gone. I immediately put up a sign because others and dogs walk by this spot. If they were in an obscure place in my garden I would leave them alone. I will be more careful on my walks with DrewB. She stepped on a nest four years ago. She only got stung once. Next time I mow I will wear long pants and good shoes.

I am beyond proud of this girl! 1st time doing an obstacle course and she did it. I had Kirby walk her for the 1st 4 miles. We are going to have to try this again. It was hard for me to record, praise, click and give her treats.

Barbie, thank you for a new month!
Can’t believe it’s August already, where the heck did July go???
Ginny, congrats on your retirement!
Debbie, good luck with the show, hope you sell lots!Pip, Ethel looks like she’s fitting in quite nicely!
Many more comments I wanted to make, but didn’t take notes. 🙁 Please know that I’m laughing, crying and celebrating with all of you! Had a decent visit with our younger son, so wish he lived closer so that we could visit more often, for a shorter period of time but….. it is what it is.
Hugs for those who need them, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to the new gals!

Hope you all have a wonderful Friday- stay cool if you are in the hot states.
looking forward to it warming up here before class tonightJust started a squat challenge on FB- need to keep up with it- 3 times a day for the month.

Barbara-Our canyon has not flooded since I’ve lived in SoCal (35+ years). There is an apartment complex at the bottom, so I hope it doesn’t.
I paid well over $5/gallon for gas yesterday. The cheap stuff. Thankfully, I only put gas in my car two-three times a year.
I like the goal many of you have to be lighter at the end of the month. I’ll see if that’s doable for me.Rebecca-nice photos and memories of your son.
Debbi- Sorry about the trouble your sis is having. What a terrible situation to be on where your hurting and no one is listening.
Heather-So sorry for your lossGinny-Congrats!
Lisa-I love the Egg stories. Thanks for sharing her with us. I have Snacks, but he just does whatever he wants and today, he apparently wants to be somewhere that isn’t our house.
We also have the ants who are escaping the heat into our kitchen. Ugh.
The mister is smoking a brisket today. He’s working on his process on a small cut before he goes for the whole thing. Messing that up would be a costly mistake. I’m looking forward to dinner.
Just remembered I owe you all some photos of my trip.

Good afternoon my friends!
Heather I'm sorry for your loss. May Allan rest in peace.

Sandy and Kelli welcome!
Lanette yes that skill of gentle refusal is always useful.
Ginny sorry for your stumble.
We are going to my aunt's house for dinner, then out for brunch tomorrow, then off to a dinner theater thing tomorrow night. Busy, busy!
May you all be happy, healthy, safe, and free!

Carol - your adorable grandkids are growing up so fast. Love seeing the photos through the years. I remember photos of them in elementary school. Hope the MRI helps diagnose your back/leg problem.
Debbie - hope the sales go well this weekend. Good luck with the squat challenge. You remind me that next time I'm in town I need to check the Amazon outlet and see if there's anything I might need, you always find such good useful things. What are the future plans for your sis? Might be too early to think about right now, sounds like she has a lot of healing to do. Wishing her the best.
Margaret - so sorry to hear about that horrible air pollution. Any projection when it's due to clear? Last week the weatherman said there was a chance we'd see a little filter down here but thankfully it never really materialized. The sky might have been a little more hazy but that was it. Crossing fingers we can get through the summer without it this year. Great job on your healthy diet and loved the Mike Wolfe photo.
Tina - gas is still pretty high in some places here in WA State. I've been buying at an ARCO station and paying $3.89/gal. It's way over $4 at many stations nearby.
Pip- Ethel is awesome and so is her trainer! Do you know much about her past? Maybe you said and I skimmed over it. I think Yogi had a hand in setting this all up. 😉
Annie - as I was trying to figure out how to respond to that fella, I thought "how would Rori handle this?"😁
Regarding my admirer last night. I found out that yesterday was the one year anniversary of his wife's death. Plus, one of his daughters died earlier this year. 😥 Guess I can't blame him for drowning his sorrow. But I remain firm - don't want or need any male companionship at this time. I hope he's able to find someone to comfort and care for him. Besides, a sloppy drinker goes way to the bottom of my list.

Trinity College. It was grad week, so I’m not sure how I got a pic with so few people in it.
The Long Room. It typically has thousands and thousands of books on the shelves. They are removing them for restoration of the library. To attract tourist, they have this massive globe eyesore. It’s a cool idea in a terrible location.
inside Christ Church. It’s hard to capture the beauty of these buildings.
The iconic view of Giants Causeway.
