    Good morning JFT friends ☀️☕️

I think the wildfire smoke may have gotten to me. I’m going to urgent care this morning to see if I have a sinus infection. Head has been pounding and my sinuses feel full up. Time to just go in and get it checked. Then later this afternoon I have a haircut appointment, so I’m happy about that! It’s only my 2nd haircut since my hair has grown back after chemo. It’s growing a little faster now. Yay! It’s the small things in life, right? 😁 Then tonight is our youngest grandson’s birthday party. My son and his wife are having a cookout, so burgers and brats on the grill I’m guessing. It’s hot and humid so maybe we can hop in their pool while we are there.

Yesterday’s goals were a bust. 😬🫣🥺 Just didn’t feel good so laid down most of the day. But, It’s a new day…try again!

    Just for Wednesday:

    1. No BS 24H plan and assess.  ❌
    2. Water, 64 oz, before 7PM. Begin drinking water by 10:00 a.m. No coffee after 10:00 anymore. ✔️
    3. Replies to texts and Marco's. Today's email, plus go through last week's.  Mail pile. ❌
    4. Close activity rings. ❌
    5. Declutter 5 things. ❌
    6. June's BOM for Sew Sampler quilt along. Cut the rest of the block pieces from dark red fabric. ❌
    7. Compression pump or lymphatic massage. ❌
    8. Journal every bite in MFP and close diary at the end of the day. ✔️
    9. Bake muffins or cookies. ❌
    10. Start unwinding one hour early. Bed on time tonight. ✔️

@pridesabtch - I pray that your situation improves soon. Its so much to be dealing with. I think your right though, the only way to get your mom committed is through the ER generally. She really isn't safe to be living alone but its so hard if she is so resistant. Out of curiosity what does her primary care giver recommend? You may have to just call an ambulance in one of these outbursts and they can often help get the atleast to get her to the hospital . I would imagine if you could get her into the ER for her mental state , they would have to do a psych eval sand she would hopefully be deemed unsafe to return to home and that would set the wheels in motion to get her into a facility. Again , I am so sorry you are going through all this between your FIL and your mom. I would assume you have the family medical leave option through work? Might be something to consider so you don't exhaust yourself into the ER.. please take care of yourself..

For all of you suffereing through humidity, we are having a bit of that here as well. Been rainy and cloudy and cool then it gets hot and muggy for a few days, then back to cool and cloudy. Definitely been a weird summer for us.

Its my Friday at work and tomorrow we are going to go look /test drive a few vehicles. I am so unmotivated on the car search thing but now that my truck is gone , my old SUV , as reliable as she has been , could give me trouble at any given moment (208K miles on it) My hubby just got home last night with his new to him truck. We also sold his old Diesel that was main hauling vehicle, it was starting to cost more in maintenance as it also had well over 200K miles. The replacement truck is a basic model but is better equipped to handle our large horse trailer since it has dually's and airbags on the back wheels for heavy loads. The old truck was not always stable for hauling the bigger trailer fully loaded up and was sort of terrifying to pull with at times in mountain country.

Walk as much as possible today in order offset this serious case of DOMS since my Monday workout

@PackerFanInGB - Yes, I had my ablation and it seems to have restored my heart rhythm. The doc says the longer it holds, the less likely it is that the afib will return. I'm still on meds (except for the statins), but I'm feeling so much better. Now I'm hoping to get back to my normal activity level and get some exercise. I have an appointment with my GP today to discuss the results of a liver sonogram, but the notes in my chart indicate gall bladder and/or fatty liver as the likely culprit. I've got more bloodwork and an appointment with a gastroenterologist later this month. I'm really hoping a plant-forward Mediterranean diet and increased exercise can make a difference. I'm also looking forward to feeling less like a patient!

@pridesabtch - You really seem to have it coming at you from all sides, and my heart goes out to you. I hope your FIL's surgery went well. It sounds like your mom needs help beyond what you can provide. Does your state allow for a 72-hour mental health crisis hold?

@cschmitz110515 - I hope you get some relief from the wildfire smoke! We've had a few days of poor air quality from the drifting smoke here in NJ.

Thanks all for the concern. We are doing the best we can. We do have FMLA for family medical leave, but it does not include in-laws. I spoke with HR though, and they are giving me the option to occasionally work remote. Unfortunately no wi-fi at the in-laws. I'll get a hot spot and figure it out. My mom's outburst are intermittent so time off isn't really possible to plan. With Tim's parents we set a schedule so that will help.

As far as the 72-hour crisis hold, yes they do, but the local hospital system doesn't have a neurologist on staff. I need to take her to Marietta for that. An ambulance will only transport to the nearest hospital most of the time. I did call a local Westbrook care facility. They have a mental health crisis team, but don't usually deal with dementia.

Mom's current PCP is a nurse practitioner and gave me a referral for neurology in Marietta, but the appt isn't until October. I am on a cancelation list though hoping to get in sooner.

Yay! The Air Quality Alert has been lifted. Flip side, wind bringing hot & humid weather from the south. I'll take it.

Recap 8/6 W ~ Still an AQ Alert to start the day, but winds are shifting from the south. Bringing heat & humidity, to replace the smokey haze. Not sure which I dislike more LOL.

@beachwalker99 - I am glad to hear the ablation went well. My mom went through a number of those in her 70's. Some times they worked and sometimes they didn't . Its very strange and scary to think about having to go through a procedure like that. I hope your appt with your gastroenterologist goes well and you get some direction with how to get your liver healthy.

@cschmitz110515- I am glad to hear the air quality is improving for you. We have been quite lucky with the weather this year, lots of cool wet weather so our fire season is looking like it won't be much of a thing.. Thats a first for this time of year. All of our recently planted landscape trees are doing great too!

*Forgot to update on my horse - A while back I mentioned it here I think that were trying to figure out his issue. Anyways, it was pending the xray review from CSU on his neck vertebre . The radiology specialist did come back stating that the area my vet saw does look questionable , and is showing some arthritis in an area that could be the reason behind the issues. (but still not 100%) .. Atleast its something to chase. It will require me to have him undergo a steroid injection into that area. My vet said this is an uncommon area to see osteoarthritis so he is intrigued as well. Looking at getting the injection done later this month. In the interim we are treating him for ulcers for 30 days which could also be the issue. So one thing at a time. Its been a drag for both of us. I hate having to medicate him everyday but he's been pretty good about it considering.

    JFT

Off to go car shopping in a town a couple hours away because all the dealers locally kinda suck or don't have anything on their lot I am interested in - Definitely not something I feel like doing today but sort of a necessary evil so I can start to narrow down what I actually want to consider for a replacement

    Probably no workout

Got a few errands to run in town before we head out.

I'm volunteering in the morning and meeting up with a friend for the Ales portion later in the day. Tim is not going to be able to go. I actually got a hotel room downtown so I wouldn't need to drive home. I look forward to this every year. I used to lead rides, but this year I'm driving SAG (Support & Gear) for the Saturday routes. If someone breaks down or something I go get them and bring them back to the park. I also keep a cooler stocked in case they get dehydrated in the heat. Not sure what I'll do between volunteering and drinking, I may see if I can get an early check in and take a nap. Y'all know how I enjoy a good nap.

Recap Thursday, 8/7 - Pretty good day! I didn't get a walk in, but I did a bunch of small chores.

Recap, Friday 8/8 - Overall another good day. I brought lunch to mom's (gazpacho, salad, and cold salmon), so I managed to stay on track. After her appointment, she asked me to take her to buy some new makeup. Her skin is so pale these days that she needs a lighter shade of foundation. I'm pretty low-frills most days - just mascara unless I I have a big event - but it was fun errand. It was a beautiful day to be out and about, but I was fighting lightheadedness all day. My HR has been dropping back to my usual low numbers so I'm thinking I may need an adjustment in my meds.

JFT Saturday, 8/9 - Off to my older son's this afternoon to hang with the littles while the guys work on replacing some sheetrock on the basement. All bets are off food-wise. It will probably be takeout, but I'll do my best.

Found a car Saturday, didn't expect to but pretty much found exactly what I was looking for , for the price I wanted to pay. Pretty happy it all worked out. yes its a car payment but a very manageable one. I can be done wasting time looking ad nauseum at cars online. That was not fun and mostly overwhelming.

    JFT Saturday

Had to run into town early and get a few things done. Then back home and later in the day take mom to the store.

    • Get my steps in of 10K or more
    • Don't over snack
    • Allow myself an adult beverage for dinner
    • Start cleaning the older car. ( honestly its probably going to just need a detailer, its been the well loved and the dog hauler )
    • Short walk with the dogs, just to end of road
    • afternoon - if its hot enough, hop in the pool

    JFT Sunday

    • Get my steps in of 10K or more
    • WORKOUT
    • clean master bath and bedroom
    • start figuring out what I am packing for the trip in September to Iceland and setting items aside

Totally took Saturday off of my family. I headed to volunteer at the Rivers Trails & Ales (RTA) Festival at 8:00am. Volunteered until 1:00. Had a lobster roll for lunch and walked around Marietta. Tried to check into my hotel early, but the room wasn't ready so I stopped at a local pub for a drink. The Ales portion of RTA started at 3:00 and I met my (22 yo former co-op) friend Alyssa at 2:30. Tim and David couldn't make the festival so I gave their VIP tickets to a friend and his wife. Procured an extra ticket for Drew and met up with Nate. We had a great time. Tim actually made if for the last half hour of the festival and joined us for dinner. He was not exactly pleased that I got a hotel for the night, but I knew I would be in no shape to drive home. The glasses at RTA are only 5 ounces, but we tried like 12 different ales/cider/seltzers. After dinner Alyssa and I checked in and then went to shoot pool. I definitely moderated the drinking, but we had a good time. Hung out with 2 guys, one was interested in Alyssa, but they were really funny and nice. They thought I was in my 30's. I laughed and told them I was almost 52. They were good sports and took us dancing at a club. Creepy old men tried to pick me up, I was flattered. I opted to play more pool and sip a soda instead of dancing as I am really too old for that scene. We made it back to the hotel around 1:30 or 2:00. Slept in until 8:00. Laid in bed for another hour then got up and went home. Even though I drank more than a little I wasn't hung over, just tired. This momma is not used to super late nights.

Hubby was happy to see me and not angry that I totally took the day off from the family drama. We went to lunch and then to visit the parents. His father was transferred to Cleveland last night. They need to get his heart back into a regular sinus rhythm before they can do surgery to install the new pacemaker/defibrillator. We are hoping surgery is tomorrow.

Tonight we are celebrating our friends 35th anniversary after work. No drinks for me tonight.

    JFT Monday

Good morning! Lots I want to accomplish today, but since I’m still not done with the sinus & ear infection I will just make list some goals and pick away at them over the next week…

I gained weight again this week, so it’s time for me to rein in some of my mindless eating and level up some of my food choices. My goal this week is to lose 2.2 lbs, which is totally doable as I think much of my gain is water retention for all the salty foods I’ve been eating. My focus this week will be to get my water on lock and ask myself “Can I just…” when I want to grab food for reasons other than hunger or not do something I should. Can I just…eat an apple instead of Oreos? Can I just… walk to the stop sign instead of sit and watch tv? Pay attention to excuses vs actual reasons. It’s too hot outside is an excuse…I twisted my ankle is an actual reason.

@HappyDonkey75 sorry to hear about your horse!

@pridesabtch Glad you had a good time! I think you needed to let loose with all you’ve had going on.

@beachwalker99 Glad you’re doing well after your ablation! Nice to see you back! I’ve been dealing with some lightneadedness issues lately too. I wonder if it could be BP meds? You gave me food for thought.

I hope everyone had a great weekend and I hope we all have a really nice, peaceful, successful week! It’s pretty warm here in Green Bay, but at least the wildfire smoke is gone. There’s a High Pollen alert for today so we will probably keep the house closed up and the air on again. I sure miss having the windows open!

    Just for Monday:

    1. No BS 24H Plan & Assess
    2. 64 oz water by 7:00 pm
    3. Close activity rings. 6000 steps. Stairs x5. Lymphedema massage. 30 minutes intentional exercise.
    4. Log food in MFP and complete food diary at the end of the day. Check in and update JFT. Look up recipe for turkey & sweet potato hotdish for dinner.
    5. June BOM for SS quilt along. Cut last 3 fabrics.
    6. Banking / admin tasks.
    7. Show my home some love. Floors, dusting, fridge clean out, laundry, windows.
    8. Get out and about…doesn’t matter where. Just leave the house. You’re becoming too isolated.
    9. 5 Things Declutter.
    10. Replies: VB, pm, texts, emails. Marcos.
    11. Make dental appt, send message to onc re: ZOM.
    12. Begin evening routine 1 hour before bedtime. Start winding down.

JFT 8/11 M ~ Another Air Quality Alert due to wildfire smoke, but not so bad today. On the bright side, strong storms tomorrow should resolve. Our last strong storm on Sat. caused a large limb to come down from our largest tree, but no property damage. At least we didn't have downed trees like Door County an hour to our northeast, or roads flooding like Milwaukee to our south. We've had 1.25" rain in last two days & rain barrels are again overflowing.

    • Walked dog around neighborhood on VERY muggy morning (72 just before 0800 and 96% humidity ICK!) so we skipped several cul-de-sacs 😁 3.05 mi happy dog & drippy, happy me / OT exercises
    • Leftovers for supper / healthy snacks / limit sweets / 64+ oz water / log all food / net calories zero
    • Kitty B12 shot 11:40 😀
    • Balance bank accts / download cc txns / schedule cc pmt / claim reward $ / update budget s/s / review jewelry policy docs / scrub/refill birdbath / usual M garbage chores / defrost chicken leg quarters for tomorrow / read / digital declutter / other?

Happy Tuesday, JFTers! Still not feeling great but want to stay accountable and make this check-in a daily healthy habit. It’s hot and muggy today, as @cschmitz110515 said, so I’m hunkering down in the A/C again. I didn’t realize we were getting storms tomorrow though, so thanks for the heads up Carmella! 😎

Recap 8/11 M ~ Another Air Quality Alert due to wildfire smoke, but not so bad today.

    • Walked dog around neighborhood on VERY muggy morning (72 just before 0800 and 96% humidity ICK!) so we skipped several cul-de-sacs 😁 3.05 mi happy dog & drippy, happy me / OT exercises 🙂 only 2x
    • Leftovers for supper / healthy snacks 😁 none! / limit sweets ~ carrot zucchini bread / 64+ oz water / log all food / net calories zero 😀 pretty darn close!
    • Kitty B12 shot 11:40 😀
    • Balance bank accts / download cc txns / schedule cc pmt / claim reward $ / update budget s/s / review jewelry policy docs ~ tried but tech difficulties prevented / scrub/refill birdbath / usual M garbage chores / defrost chicken leg quarters for tomorrow / read / digital declutter / other? 😁 ta-da!

JFT 8/12 T ~ AQ Alert until 3 p.m. but not horrible, at least for me. Still muggy & very warm = ick!

    • Walked dog, along with hubby, to park & back 1.31 mi 😍 happy dog & happy me / min. 7500 steps / OT exercises
    • Grill chicken leg quarters (bake if storms happen) & steam broccoli for supper / healthy snacks / limit sweets / 64+ oz water / log all food / net calories zero
    • Review & download jewelry insurance docs / research jewelry appraisers (it's been a few years) / load dishwasher & run / wash sheet pan & misc / order dinner for garden concert? / read / digital declutter / other?

WOTY 2025: Judicious ~ I just like the way the word sounds, and the meaning is right for me: having or showing reason and good judgement in making decisions. I can apply this word in so many ways!

Hour commitment - I won't eat again until after 5 pm. None of the same foods at dinner as at lunch. Can still have my dose of metamusal.
