Woof - what a month! That week of fatigue really set me back. No weight loss this month either, but TBH I didn't really try
@chris_in_cal I apprecate your sense of humor :)
My Trainwell coach is setting up some new routines for me and I need to write down my WOG'ing goals. I spent a bit of time reading about my calf issue, many years ago I saw a PT and massage therapist about my calf that would very occasionally flare up…they both agreed it is the soleous; so I suspect it is the same issue. I have added the weighted calf machine before a run and it recreates the burning so maybe a strength issue. My hip is still locked and not really responding to stretching.
I hope everyone has good long weekend and see you in Sept!

@Teresa502 ahhh yes makes sense now. Thanks
@chris_in_cal funny how I get my motivation 😂
Weather here is being weird. Cold in the mornings, tee and shorts warm in the afternoon.

flaccid, saggy, hypermobile leg muscles are prone to injury. Strong, harder muscles hold up better to running….that's what I got from this. Makes sense.
My yoga teacher used to always say it was the super flexible students who tended to injure themselves.
4 -
Sorry you had to shorten your run a couple of days ago @WarmJellyfish . You are beast for finishing that race after getting injured. I do like the medal.
Congrats on reaching your monthly goal @kgirlhart .
Awesome pictures @tarun_yadavA .
Nice running @Mari33a and excellent improvement in VO2max.
Maybe I need to do that @ContraryMaryMary . 🤣 My problem is that the ones I currently wear all the time are the only ones I have found that don't hurt my knee and legs. I overpronate. I'm sure there are others, but just haven't looked.
Have a nice weekend @CMorning99 . You may not have met your goals, but you are still here and working on it, so I call that a win.

The weather has been very mixed but I’ve been able to avoid the rain all week. Tomorrow is forecast a washout so I pushed to hit 90 miles today. And if it is really wet I won't have to run 2moro. I've planned a rest day on Sunday. It would probably benefit me more to do some hamstring stretches tomorrow as I’m walking very stiffly when I first stand up to walk.
Enjoy your holiday weekend!

if nothing else I've reached my running goal for this month. On my way to my summer vacation now, staying in a hotel near the airport. Had a nice run through a wooded part of this town, but unfortunately with about 600m of pebbly path, which I don't like.

Nice runs @quilteryoyo, @Scott6255, @kgirlhart (congrats on hitting your goal!), @Teresa502, @WarmJellyfish (cool medal), @tarun_yadavA (beautiful pics, I'd hesitate entering the *kitten* brewery!; though its nice to see Kiddy Vidi, I've been told to visit it!), @Mari33a (congrats on the VO2Max increase! & also surpassing your goals!), @ContraryMaryMary (doesn't count, do it again with your watch 😉!), @username301, @yirara (congrats on hitting your goal!),
I've never tried carbon plated shoes @Teresa502, as they're just a bit too pricey for me, though I've been looking at them for awhile & I keep looking!
I know a couple of folks that use Nike Vaporfly's and love them but they run 1/2's & full marathons, which I don't. I was more interested in the ASICS but as I'm not a competitive runner (other than against myself) or planning a half/full marathon race, I didn't see the reason for the $$ outlay.
When I was 'let go' from my last job, my staff & friends contributed to a 'GTFO' Gift Card for a local Running Store. They were very generous! I've purchased one expensive pair of shoes and will likely do another at some point. Maybe I'll splurge for a carbon plated one at some point.
BTW, there are actually 'newer' super shoes out now. I was reading an article about them just a couple of days ago I think. A new world record was achieved with an elite runner in them, but they say 'not official' as the shoes haven't been reviewed/accepted as yet! Meaning you'll not see them on any races for awhile.
If I remember where I saw the link I'll post it as a FYI for you guys, as it was an interesting read.Posting a couple days….

Spent the Thursday thunderstorms inside but I declined a rest day and hopped on the stationary bike for 25km.
Got up this morning to the coolest day this summer (10⁰ C / 50⁰ F)!
Would've gone for a run but had a bunch of stuff to clear off schedule and wasn't free until after lunch.
Still a very comfortable run, but not too much sun by the time I got out the door.4 -
That's an amazing increase in pace @username301 .
Great job this month @Mari33a .
Enjoy your vacation @yirara ! Great run today. Gravely paths are really hard to run on.
Nice to get "free" shoes @John772016 . Glad you had some cooler weather for your run.

Posting two days. Yesterday, I got up early enough to do a driveway wun before heading into work. I took it easy since I was playing tennis later.
After work, I attended a tennis clinic (group lesson) and then played a couple of doubles matches. I felt like I didn't play my best because I kept thinking of what the Pro had said during the clinic and was trying to change a couple of things he said I should change. Was thinking way too much to play at my best. 😉
I didn't get home until 9 pm, so didn't get on the computer. Before I went to bed, I decided to sleep later and do my "run" after work, since I felt sleep was needed. I was glad I did this morning (didn't sleep the best before 2, so needed some extra this morning), but when I got home, I wished it had already been done. LOL
I did another driveway wun. My right knee had a niggle a couple of times, so decided not to push it. Keeping the streak going.

Thanks @quilteryoyo and @John772016 . Although I was mistaken. I was thinking I set my goal at 160, but I set it at 165, so I didn't reach it yesterday. I did run 6.25 miles today though and now I have hit my goal. It was a pretty good run, but still hot and humid. We should have some cooler temps next week. I am looking forward to that.

I did the course check for parkrun this morning - 5k slowly - then parkrun itself - 5k fast-ish. Garmin told me off. Then this afternoon I did a brutal Pilates class - my studio was turning one so a handful of us were invited to a free class (which was super tough, even without 10k this morning) followed by champagne and cake. Fabulous!
@quilteryoyo, you don’t necessarily need ‘different’ shoes - two pairs the same are fine. I always have an older and a newer pair of Brooks Ghosts on the go. It’s about letting your shoes ‘recover’ (the memory foam reinflate properly, and for them to dry if they get wet). It’s particularly important if you’re running at the same pace every run - it’s good to mix up your pace as well as your shoes to lessen your chances of injury.
6 -
Wow. You did great @ContraryMaryMary . Sounds like a great Pilates anniversary celebration. Thanks for the info. That makes sense.

It's cold, wet and windy this morning here in St Johns. So opted for hotel gym today.
Flying back tomorrow early AM.
So that's me done for August.
142.25 miles!
See you all in Sept!
7 -
@John772016 thanks!
Quidi Vidi is nice! The Brewery is very picturesque too.
As for D1 LDO. It's a town about 90 mins from St Johns. It has a big Hollywood type sign on a hill saying D1 LDO in bold white blocks. Woulda made for a nice and funny social media pic; but long way to go just for that (and a beer or three! {And besides, they have a D1 LDO Brewing Company in St Johns anyway } ).

Aug 13 - 5km
Aug 30 - 10kmAug total - 15km
I surprised myself this morning! I didn't think I had it in me to do 10km! The last time I did a 10km run was May 20, 2024. It's been over a year! The best part was the the woods band for my county was lifted yesterday! I was able to go on the trails. Maybe that's why I was able to go so far! (It takes 3km to get to the trail I ran on.)
I've not seen this river this low. We need more rain!

99.6km for August out of a 160km goal. Plagued by illness - mine and others - and hampered by work deadlines!
It’s officially spring tomorrow so we’ll start the new season afresh.
6 -
Finished off the month with an 8.50 mile run this morning. Two friends joined me for the first 7 miles. Total for the month is 80.82 running miles and 34.04 intentional walking miles. I did strength training 6 times, yoga twice and cycling once. Not bad considering I was in Texas for a week for work, in Florida for vacation, and then sick. Goodbye August!
Great running everyone!
Thanks for setting up September @AlphaHowls

You did great @tarun_yadavA . Safe travels home.
Congrats on the 10K @angf0679 . That is a beautiful spot. Why was there a woods ban? You look great.
Thanks for setting up September @AlphaHowls . I'm not sure how it got here so fast either.
Nice running @username301 .
Congrats on meeting your goal @John772016 !
You did great getting in what you could @ContraryMaryMary ! Happy Spring.

Mom and I went to the 3rd estate auction at our neighbor's house/farm today. All that is left to sale is the house, land, and farm equipment. I bought a pole chain saw today. I hope it works…there was no guarantee and I didn't try to start it after I got home. I only paid $12.50 for it, so it won't be a great loss if it doesn't. Everything was going so cheap today. I think they were just trying to finish and it didn't really matter what they got out of it.
After I got back, I went for a driveway wun. It was pretty warm again at 80F (27C). My knee was better. I did have one small niggle as I was walking up hill, but nothing making me think I should stop.
One more - I'll probably do my normal walk/wun…hopefully 1.5 miles to end on an even note. Short, but even. LOL

Nice runs everyone.
Had a few days of jello legs. Decided to up the carb intake. Did a shake down 10k this morning while it was still cool. Let's see if they will hold up tomorrow. Garmin decided to bump up my max hr again by a couple of points.

I swear if it is not one thing it is your mother! 😳 Anyway, I have managed to complete the month over goal and with yet another new injury to deal with. I think my shoes when I was playing tennis last week put too much pressure on the top of my foot behind my toes and now the tendons are upset. Same foot. Perhaps it is all part of the big picture of things not quite working right and stressing other things. @daria0919 I think is very familiar with this type of sequential injury cascade. (oh I just made that up but…. 😏) Anyway. wIll just keep plugging along and see what Sept brings. At least it promises less high dew point weather. Yall have kept up inspiring me to just keep trying. I honestly never know until I get about 100 steps in what sort of body parts are going to complain.
@quilteryoyo I need to figure out how to block our mutual "friend" again on Strava as she is basically stalking every comment I make on your runs/walks . Strava is not really that intuitive for me to use and sometimes I end up following by mistake.🧐🤪
My running is slowly ramping back up and if I had my druthers I think I would have started up even slower the beginning of this month when everything appeared to be feeling normal for a change. Lesson learned. You cannot go from 60 to 0 to back to 60 mph when you are an old fogie. LOL 60 to 0 is pretty easy.🤷♀️😂

LOL 60 to 0 is pretty easy.
Yes, and what is hard, with our pride, ego, and delusions that we are 28 y/o is going from 0 to 59 gracefully.
You are inspiring us by example. Here's to good health in September; 🍻

I ran 4.09M at 14'26 out at the lake. Hottest temp run of the year. Aug/Sept/Oct are the hottest months out here.
In August I ran 47.6M with a 45M goal.

I'm on summer vacation for the next 2.5 weeks and I've chosen a village as a home base which has about 100m of flat road. The rest of the village goes up from there. Yeah, I know… I have difficulty walking uphill and I can't run uphill. That's the nature of my muscle condition. Still I'll see whether I can improve on this a tiny bit. Somehow. So now I'm collecting elevation gains.
