AUGUST 2025 Monthly Running Challenge

AUGUST 2025 Monthly Running Challenge
WARNING: Following this thread may be addictive; it gets very talkative...miss a day and you can be 50 posts behind. This is the most popular challenge on MFP. If you found us in the middle (or end) of the month, you're still very welcome to join in - no requirements or special invite needed. Once you post, that's it you're in. And yes, we do this every month.
You set your own pace and distance for the month. We will all be doing it together. This is your virtual running group to help keep you accountable, to enjoy a virtual post-run coffee with your fellow runners, and to make new friends and learn a few things.
This is a continuation from the JULY 2025 Monthly Running Challenge which can be found at:
https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10933730/july-2025-monthly-running-challenge/p1?new=1
Anyone can join in, new and old, and if you found this thread late, you can join in at any time.
We have members ranging from total beginners all the way to Boston Qualifiers and beyond. We are a friendly and encouraging bunch. You never need to be ashamed of your miles. If you are making the effort, you will find only support here.
Here are the details from last month that apply again:
Anybody want to join in for a running challenge? Set a goal here and update us every day. OPTIONAL: You can post your progress by creating a ticker at http://www.tickerfactory.com (if creating one seems difficult, or you're like me and can't be bothered, then just type in your daily miles in this thread).
You can run, walk, or do treadmill - just be consistent. Don't let the high (or low) goals of others intimidate you. Some do 25 miles, others do 50, some go higher than that, some do lower; it's entirely your goal and therefore completely up to you. We help motivate each other, so what do you say? If you're new to running, set a low goal. If you're from a part of the world where miles aren't your thing, log your distances in KMs. And if you'd rather log your progress by time rather than distance, then you're entirely free to do that as well.
Feel free to set your goal now but wait until AUGUST 1, 2025 to start logging your runs!
Also, don't forget to join our group which can be found at:

After you run, come into this thread and post what you did (don't forget to hit the bookmark in the upper right corner to bookmark this thread). Simply keep a running tally of what you've done this month and interact with the others. Many folks come in here and chit-chat it up, even on their rest days or while recouping from injury. This is a very social group and we talk about many things (sometimes even about running). It's a very friendly bunch here so don't be afraid to say hi (even if this is your first time), talk about a recent or up-coming race, ask questions, provide answers, or just lurk-n-learn. Participation is what makes this group successful.
Not quite sure how to log your runs? Follow the examples of many other challenge members. Even take a peek at last month's thread (posted above).
OPTIONAL TICKER******
Info on tickers since I know there will be questions. Sign up for an account at http://www.tickerfactory.comandcreate your ticker. Then you need to update it after you finish a run and post it here. Here is what you will need to do.
After setting up your ticker, you will need to make note of the weblink they give you so you can return. An example would be:
http://www.tickerfactory.com/exercise/w6K1EiX/ <<<< the last part will be a part of the image link (explained below) that will be supplied to you after you initially create your link.
When you return to TickerFactory with the weblink, go to your settings page. Make sure you type your PIN in that you set when you created your ticker account. Then, where it says "Your current cumulative value", there is an add button. Simply add the distance that you just did, and the cumulative value automatically changes. Then hit next.
After adding your new miles (or KMs) to your ticker, you need to post it here.
After you hit next, it will give you a bunch of codes suggesting how to display your ticker.
Use the one at the bottom where it says Direct Image URL:
It will look something like:
http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/t/w6K1EiX/exercise.png
To display that correctly in your post, make sure you place the image (img) tags around that link. So it will look something like the following (but removing the spaces in the img tags):
[ img ] http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/t/w6K1EiX/exercise.png [ /img ]
^^^^^^^ Don't forget to remove the spaces between the brackets ^^^^^^^^^^
Some key things to pay attention to when posting your ticker:
Use the link that ends in .png
Remember the [ img] and [ /img] tags go in between the link
Remove the spaces in the img tags before posting
YES, there is a / in the second /img tag
By the way, everyone here should consider themselves a runner no matter how fast or slow. There's no judgment, we all started somewhere. And no comparisons, except with your former self. Don't compare your Chapter 1 to somebody else’s Chapter 20.
“I often hear someone say I’m not a real runner. We are all runners, some just run faster than others. I never met a fake runner.” – Bart Yasso
“The man who moves a mountain begins by carrying away small stones.” – Confucius
"We all know that if you run, you are pretty much choosing a life of success because of it.” – Deena Kastor
“Most people run a race to see who is fastest. I run a race to see who has the most guts.” – Steve Prefontaine
“Get going … walk if you have to, but finish the damned race.” – Ron Hill
"If you run, you are a runner. It doesn’t matter how fast or how far. It doesn’t matter if today is your first day or if you’ve been running for twenty years. There is no test to pass, no license to earn, no membership card to get. You just run." - John Bingham
You may see some phrases / words that are unique to our little group when it comes to describing some of our runs. It is a mash-up of words that seem to best describe the way the run felt that day. Here are some examples. Feel free to come up with your own to add to the dictionary 😃
'sleasy' - Slow and Easy
'sneasy' - Slow Not Easy
'scrappy' - mix of Slow and Crappy
'wun' - mix of Walking and Running
'wog' - mix of Walking and Jogging
"injury shuffle" 2x your normal pace, if you are crazy enough to do it
"Crazy Laps!" repetitive short distance laps (think living room/hospital room)
Difference between running and jogging. Joggers find dead bodies. Every news article will always print: 'jogger found dead body', 'out jogging, found a dead body.' Never does it say a 'runner' found a dead body. Only joggers find dead bodies.
'boyfriend run' - 12.1 mins per mile is the perfect 'run date' speed
'girlfriend run' - you better keep up, no matter what the speed
Stay safe. Stay healthy. Stay on track. Don't look back!

Hello,
I'm joining you all. I have a small endurance run at the end of the month. Just want to get an assessment of where I'm at and my ability, nutrition, recovery in the South. Hope to be more consistent in preparing for a birthday run next year. Thankful for my treadmill. Good luck to everyone with their August goals!

I’m in for another 100 miles. I would raise my goal but we’re away in Australia for a week on Sunday which may play havoc with my training.
Welcome @gamommy2. What’s your event?
7 -
I'm in for 130 miles.
Away (🇨🇦 ) last week of this month but likely to get in some run-see s.

Hello August.
I am going for 77 miles this month.

Hello @gamommy2,
A great thing about this thread is that it promotes consistency. Make it a practice to post a daily sentence or two, a one minute investment in your time, and your running plans will never get too far away. Welcome.

01.08 strength

Have fun in Australia @ContraryMaryMary . I would love to visit there sometime.
Welcome @lucysclark .
I'm going to try for 80 miles in August. I don't have any trips planned, so hopefully that will be doable.

I think @quilteryoyo s mom and I share a birthday so I will just enjoy all those cards also!
Still pondering what August will bring for a goal for me. I ended up with a lot more running miles and very few walking miles in July.
Welcome new folks!!!!!!

August goal: 30 miles
8/1 - 1.5 miles
7 -
I'm going to aim for 100 miles again, even though I fell quite short in July with only 78 miles.
I won't be able to get any miles in today, but I'm planning a long run tomorrow. I'm going to try to run 12 miles, which will be my longest run to date.

Good morning! TGIF.
August goals…hold on to your socks because is going to be epic 🤣
20 Miles, 39 Min WOG'ing, 13 Strength Sessions There are a lot of MWFs in this month and those are my training days.
1 Aug - 1.4 Miles, 0 WOG, 35 min upper body
My plan is to add 3 min continuous slow jog into each walk. My calves (from knee to achilles) get so tight when I jog…not cramping…but like the whole muscle seizes. I got it once in awhile when I was running hard and never found a consistant correllation. It isn't my diet or hydtration, and my ROM is good for my ankles. All I can come up is they are weak sauce and whiners. I have added weighted calf raises.
I finally got my letter to let me wear my Oura ring at work. It will be interesting to see what it tells me. I was surprised I only lost 1 lb last month with my tracking and exercise; I must be over estimating my daily calorie burn. The cardiovasular age finally calibrated and and said my heart age and actual age are nearly the same…my heart is 6 months older. DHs came back as well and his heart is 2 years younger…always seem to be the case with people who never exercise or watch what they eat 😂
We had a coworker work a few days this week with COVID so I guess this weekend we will all be watching to see if they take anyone else down with them. Going to take it easy and get chores done … again.

I think my motherly overprotective Garmin watch is trying to tell me something…🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I wonder how low can that yellow dot go 😈
Did I ever tell you folks I used to have heart problems with an irregular beat? So this is fascinating to me.
Sigh…marching on6 -

August Running Goal: 45 miles
9.5 lbs.weight loss (183.5 lbs -> 174.0 lbs)
————————————————————I'm Chris; I live in San Diego, California.
I'm wanting to have stability with fewer health niggles and a good consistent baseline. Last month I stopped strength training and ran more, and I went over my running goal. I'll stay mindful of that and make sure I get in both. My shoulder is still wonky. PT asked me to take an xray and that came back clean, no arthritis. So it's some cuff/impingement/labrum/who knows. I do some Theraband rehab movements and I'll see PT again in a few weeks. Long languid hot days ahead…(except our southern hemisphere friends) Have a good month everyone.
If you have a Garmin please connect on GC.

@CMorning99 You had to get permission to wear a ring to work? What do you do that you to get approval?
My goal for August is 75km.

Thanks for setting up the thread @AlphaHowls!
Welcome @gamommy2 & @lucysclark!
My goal for August is 161km / 100 miles (didn't even get close to it in July but that's ancient history already)
Aug:01/08 - 13.34km / 8.29 miles
Total = 13.34km / 8.29 miles (Goal - 161Km / 100 miles)The humidity finally dropped & the poor air quality (from the wildfires out west) finally improved, so this morning's run was in beautiful sunny & cooler weather (around 18⁰C /64⁰F when I started & 21⁰C/ 70⁰F when I finished).

Pilates before Parkrun this morning- quite the challenging combo.
Up at silly o'clock tomorrow to head to the Sunshine Coast in Aus - staying in Noosa for a week either no real plans of what to do. I’m just hoping it’s warmer than here. It was 1.5°C when I headed out this morning. Needed gloves but forgot them 🥶

Starting the month with a 5 mile run and an evening 1 mile walk! Oddly my thighs and hips are complaining about me starting to add mileage back. 🧐😏🤷♀️ The foot complains some but it's voice it getting smaller. 🥳🙂
Nice to see @daria0919 back!!!!! 👏👏👏
I am going to make this month also a free for all. Just hope to get daily runs in of some sort and survive the tx heat and humidity.

Great run @tarun_yadavA . So far mom has 14 cards, I think. That's pretty good considering her birthday is still 2 weeks away. I hope she starts getting several a day. She got two today.
@SummerSkier I think you are right. I'm glad your foot is doing better and hope it holds up in August. You did great in July.
Glad to see you back @daria0919 . How's your ankle and husband?
@CMorning99 Glad you got approval to wear your ring. Sounds like great goals and I hope you don't get CoVID.
@WarmJellyfish That's pretty much always my mental readiness to train. LOL I don't see where I can get that piece of information from my Garmin.
Great run to start August @John772016 .
@ContraryMaryMary . You did great to do all of that this morning. I hope your fingers got warmed up. Enjoy your vacation.
Great start to the month @SummerSkier .

1 Aug - Walked 2.00 miles - Ran 0.00 miles - Driveway wun
2.00/80.00 mile goal
Is it bad that I had to go back and look to see what my goal was that I posted yesterday? 🤷♀️
I planned to get fasting bloodwork this morning, so didn't eat breakfast or have coffee. When I got to my doctor's office, they had a sign on the door that they were closed today and Monday. Shoot.
I worked at daycare for 7 hours after running a couple of errands and did a hot driveway wun on the driveway when I got home. It was a little cooler at 87F (31C) with a feels like of 91.5F (33C), but still hot and sweaty. This weekend is supposed to be cooler. I hope the forecasters are right.

Hi everyone!
My goal this month is 250km.
I still have 1 more week in NY before heading back to Germany. We had a big rain storm last night, which cooled everything down and made my run this morning very pleasant. I did the first run of 2.7km with 2 of the kids, who were also feeling motivated post-rain, and then went out again for 10.4km. It was overcast and there was a nice breeze. I felt like I could have run a lot further but didn’t want to leave the family waiting too long :).
13.1/250km for August.
P.S. I really was sad not to run in Central Park while we were in NYC. There were soooo many runners on the running path in the park it would have been like joining in a race. Maybe next time… At least I got in a few kms in the hotel fitness room ;).

Morning all.
Got in 4.48 miles at pacier-than-ushe 08'48.
At the cricket today and tomorrow. Will be absolute calories and alcohol carnage.
(
@SummerSkier yes yes I know 🙈 )
Three weeks of detoxing from Monday!
@quilteryoyo sent! 10 working days - so should reach by 15th!
@ContraryMaryMary enjoy Sunshine/QLD !
@Laurz9191 never mind about Central park!
5 -
@Laurz9191 You are doing great with running while on vacation. Glad the kids wanted to get out and enjoy the cooler weather too. It's supposed to be about 10 degrees cooler here this week than it has been, so I'm hoping it'll be easier to get myself out and run more.
Great pace this morning @tarun_yadavA . Enjoy the cricket games.
I am adding another goal to August, to stop my weight gain. I would like to lose some, but my goal is just to stop this upward trend. I keep thinking that it is just water weight, but when it doesn't come off….. I also know that lately I HAVE been tracking calories, but only after I have already eaten. That really doesn't help when you are over, does it? 🤣😉🤷♀️

8/2: 12 miles
Total: 12/100
I got up early this morning to do my longest run to date. The last 2 miles were a struggle, with the last one REALLY dragging. But I did it. I'm pretty proud of it.
