I was cleaning out old photos while killing time at the airport and rediscovered this screen shot. I’m trying this in the next few days. My husband hates sweet potatoes about as much as I do butter pecan, so I’m going to try to slip it past him.

Had a Great day yesterday! Hoping for a repeat! The weather is starting to cool down which makes going for walks easier. Love the pumpkin ice cream idea, I've got to try that. Pumpkin is so good for you: vitamins, fiber and antioxidants; great way to pack nutrition into a sweet treat.
Remember ladies: You Are Awesome! Go out and move mountains!

Has anyone ever used a "Play and Freeze" ice cream ball? Here's an Amazon link but you can get them elsewhere too. Play n Freeze Ball

the kids used to do something similar at Montessori. I think they used a coffee can or plastic jug?
Check out the Ninja Creami. We use ours every single night. Yeah, it’ll make your eardrums bleed and will certainly scatter the cats, but boy does it make some good, creamy ice cream, and it’s just fun to experiment and add only what you want to go in it! Tonight is a sorbet made with just one ingredient: a can of crushed pineapple. With some low cal squirt whip cream and maraschino cherries, it’s our favorite.
I want to try some that’s “just” mashed banana soon, like they have at our local farmers market. They run frozen bananas through a “masticator”, and sell the daylights out of it. They were using a simple raspberry sauce, too, and it looked good, but I balk at paying $9 for frozen banana. 😬

Weather's cooperating this week. Going run/walking today. staying away from the sweets. I stopped putting sugar in my morning coffee, which after 1 week, isn't that bad. I can do this! slow changes add up!

New experience in physical therapy today: Dry needling. It looks like acupuncture, but uses different points and has a different underlying theory.
I think I mentioned doing PT recently because my long-time screwy knees were kicking up more than usual, and they went into overdrive on that a couple of weeks ago. My PT has done several things that have helped, so I agree to try this even though it's unfamiliar and I'm skeptical about everything . . . but also open-minded. (I just try not to be so open-minded that it gets drafty in there, if ya know what I mean. 😆)
My knees have felt semi-human during parts of the few hours since the dry-needling, a thing that's been unusual recently. Maybe it'll help. I hope so. I've deferred expected-someday knee surgery for . . . boy, must be close to 2 decades so far. I hope I'm not reaching the point where it's necessary.
Just for fun, here's a photo of me suffering for my sport 😉 - sitting in a lawn chair on the dock at the rowing club, in my ratty yoga pants and water shoes, watching the university crew club row by, on a lovely but breezy summer evening. Officially, I'm supervising our rowing club's open rowing session, which means unlocking the boathouse, helping people carry boats to/from the water, and that sort of thing. Then I sit on the dock while they row: Such tough labor (not)! Somebody's got to do it . . . .

We had one and I did it! We used to do the dirt easiest recipe: a half gallon of half-and-half plus chocolate syrup. The kids would roll it around the back yard for a while and then we'd eat it. It wasn't practical, but it was fun!

Bottled Alfredo sauce.
Nevvvvvvver again.
Just unfathomable depths of utter blandness. I would have done better dipping in the 5 gallon bucket of Agreeable Grey in the store room.

I tried bottled Alfredo sauce well over a decade ago and Springlering, you are completely correct. It was so bad that I even wrote a note to the company expressing how appalled I was at the flavor. This was way back when so I probably actually had to write a letter and mail it.

Off to Zumba class this morning! Fun to socialize with folks where there's no judgment; everyone gets 'lost' at some point, it's so good for the brain to keep my left and right straight!

My yoga studio is having a “ 20 in 30 Day Challenge”.
I’ve got 21 days to knock this out in.Two classes today so am five in, may do two tomorrow to “get ahead”.
Do I want the stupid mug? No. But do I like having all the very satisfying foil stars next to my name? 😅

Church picnic tonight, I may eat a light salad before I go so, I don't overindulge. I have no willpower to resist desserts, and there are some awesome bakers in the congregation!

Since we seem to be just chatting . . .
Another coached row yesterday - these are coached once a week by the university's rowing club coach (Pete), hired by my club (the community club) to coach some sessions for us. Usually, some of his team are out on the water with us. It's useful technically.
Pete thinks he's preparing us for a local head race coming up in early October. (Head race: Rowing event that's long-ish. Boats have a staggered start, usually 10-15 seconds apart, and are timed on the course. Our head race is around 3500m, roughly 2 miles.)
I'm not planning on entering the head race, at least not unless someone seriously strong-arms me to participate so they can fill out a multi-person boat. I did some racing in my 50s, both rowing machine and on-water races, including some major ones, and I guess kind of got it out of my system. I know that I don't have the character to race singles. (I'd be all "this hurts, I'm stopping". 😆 Without a coxswain - in a folding chair behind me! - I probably would've done that in rowing machine races, too.) If I'm in a boat with someone else, I'll keep going to the finish line, give it all I've got. 😉🙄
However, as the date gets closer, Pete is including more long-ish, intense-ish practice pieces, which is kind of fun. They're very fatiguing - high intensity work is disproportionately more tiring than lower intensity work, as I'm sure you know. But it feels like it's good for me. My standard line is that I'm an old enough model to have a carbuerator, and going faster cleans that out. It's also kind of weirdly exhilarating - endorphins, maybe?
Yesterday, it was a few college students from the university club out in singles, pairs and doubles, and me with another community club member in a double. She's in her mid-40s, and was bow rower (responsible for steering, noting that we're facing away from direction of travel). She's strong. I, 69, was in stroke (responsible for keeping the strokes on a steady beat, sometimes coach-dictated strokes per minute). Yep, us and some 18-22 year old athletes.
Our more intense bit was 16 minutes, strong intensity but not necessarily race pace, with direction from the coach to do a rating increase (strokes per minute, spm) each 4 minutes, so 4' at each of 18, 20, 22, and 24 spm. Those are middling ratings. Among us old people - a.k.a. masters rowers - race pace would be more like 30ish spm (as if my technique wouldn't crumble at 30! 😆).
The college students were faster, gotta admit, especially the guys. We gained on the single sometimes, but a double should be faster than a single, and she was quite petite besides. (Tall and strong is ideal for rowers. She might be strong, dunno.) However, unlike with the college students, the coach didn't have to repeatedly tell us to fix our point (i.e., our steering so as not to hit things, so kudos to the woman in bow), and we were steadily on target with our spm, while they needed more corrections on that. I'll give us credit for that stuff: We may be older, but we might have more focus, or something. 😆
The morning looked like this: Drills, some rest/drink breaks, some pieces where we were increasing pressure, a break, the 16 minute bit, then some more drills to cool down.
The whole deal was about 8.5k. That night, I rowed the barge - like rowing your living room, I swear - for a full moon row my club held. It was a lovely night, but mostly overcast, so we saw the actual moon only briefly. That was another 6k, so there was a total of about twice the distance I usually row, between the two. At least the full moon row had post-row snacks. 😋
Here is me, in the barge, in my usual glamorous (read: ratty!) rowing attire, complete with headlamp in this case. No, that is not me doing an arm block. There's an oar handle under/behind my arm that I'm resting the arm on. You can see a bit of the wood of it behind my elbow.

Woke up crying. Had a vivid dream I was back at work, and everyone was wanting something from me, and there was the usual chaos. We were a family business, and there was the usual layer of parental stress dolloped on top
It was so real my blood pressure went up and my resting heart rate doubled.
If i didn’t beleive that making deep, necessary life changes could change my life and stress level, that dream convinced me.
I thanked the hubs over breakfast for making me leave that situation and literally move away. I don’t know how he put up with me and my work-related anxiety for so many years.
I can really see now why early morning can be the highest % of heart attacks.

I was craving a diet coke yesterday, but later I realized that for some reason, something in diet coke leaves me hungry: end result I snacked on some cookies! Lesson learned to avoid the diet coke cravings and stick to water!

It’s hard. We’re a hardcore, loyal Coke family.
It was easier than I thought to switch to Coke Zero. For years I refused because I thought the taste was off, or the ingredients were “bad” for me and I’d get cancer (🤷🏻♀️). Getting off the sugar ones was a great help losing weight.
And then….and then…..and then, my dietician, whom I’d asked about anti inflammatory advice, looked at my food diary and said “whoaaaa! do you have any idea how many servings of artificial sweeteners you’re having per day?”
Nope. Couple a diet cokes a day, ice cream made from sugar free pudding, syrups in coffees and also as additional sweeteners in said ice creams, I’m my daily protein pancakes, even my vitamin is artificially sweetened. And there were more I can’t remember.I’d traded sacks and sacks of candy per day for ounces and ounces of, basically, chemicals.
No regrets. They helped get me where I am now, but I’ve now made a conscious decision to cut the artificial sweeteners.
Coke was the absolute hardest. Something about the PPPFT! POP! And then that first cold sip……
I still reach for one occasionally, but slap my wrist and put it back down again.
So hugs. Part of me wants to thank you for paying our bills, the other part wants to tell you Nooooooo!!!!!!!

this reminds of when Coke gave all employees a fistful of coupons for free product, and asked them to approach people in grocery stores, thank them for the Coke product in their baskets, and give them a coupon.
My poor, mortally shy husband. That was the absolute worst assignment he ever had, even though it was the simplest.

So my NSV for the over-60’s only, this morning I was joking with the cleaning lady, who was singing in the dressing room, that she knows all the words to the songs on the Muzak. (It seldom changes.)
Both she (English not her first language) and the younger woman getting dressed nearby looked at me questioningly.
I try explaining Muzak, and finally said “that’s what they called it when I was a kid. Fifty years ago”.
And then it hit me like a ton of bricks, FIFTY years is HALF A CENTURY!!!!
I reeled for a moment and then thought,” F it. I just did cardio and am changing into my bathing suit to swim laps. Fifty since childhood ain’t so bad, I guess.”4 -
I Muzak no longer a thing? or do they just call it elevator music now?

I’m afraid I’m too old to know.
I just wish they’d erase Mariah Carey from the track at the gym. The Muzak-on-scheduled-repeat consistently means she’s hitting the high note right when I’m benching, and my first instinct is to cover my ears and curl into the fetal position.

Muzak, the company, reorganized in around 2009 after bankruptcy and I think renamed it "Mood"-something-or-other. "Elevator music" is sort of the generic term.

Muzak is now going by Mood Media, or just Mood. I don't mind what they play at the gym, but wish they'd lower the volume. My watch keeps going off sending me a high noise notification (over 90 decibels) every time I walk in. I've started wearing noise reduction headphones so I can protect my hearing. I wonder if the young people realize that they will be deaf when they get to my age if they don't do something to protect their hearing now?

i’m not a fan of eggs in ice cream. i’d rather do a regular ice cream base with all cream and just use the butter/pecan mixture. i like it less sweet, too, and would cut the sugar by 1/4 cup, i think. especially if putting caramel sauce on it!
