@Teresa502 good luck on your race! Lol I usually do a 32k trail race Dec 20, winter solstice! but this year I'm going to volunteer at the aid station instead. Giving back this year after last year's race shenanigans when I cut my finger wide open in the race (crash and drip like crazy, survival and wilderness first aid training came in handy after I forgot to pack my usual FA kit, remember to also look where the poles are going, those tungsten tips are sharp!) and 3 band aids later, the aid station crew were a mighty help. Might eye a few other local races though most of them are run in the dark!

Excellent 4 miles run at perfect, nearly wind still and slightly fresh weather. Daytime temperature was 17C today, which is crazy for November, but it was lovely after sunset.5 -
Started Week 9 of C25k, nothing special to report though I need to stretch my IT band more. Feeling it around my right knee.
I have a similar issue @nossmf though mine is before a run. My body is highly trained to run at it's lowest weight so I take a supply of paper as portapotties can run short. 🙄

Great running @kgirlhart . Sounds like great weather for the HM.
Nice running @tarun_yadavA , @daria0919 , @yirara , @TheMrWobbly , and @Mari33a .
Sorry your run was cold and not the best @WarmJellyfish . At least you got out and ran some of it.
@nossmf You're doing great. I hope your knee is okay.
@Teresa502 It was pretty chilly this morning. Great running. I'm not doing a HM anytime soon. I'm just starting the plan to see how it goes and try to be ready next Dec for the run in TX. (I've already forgot the name of the race. Yikes.) Since I'm not going to do the 10 miler in FL this year, I'll look into the one at Davy Crocket. I've run it a couple of years in the past. I'll let you know for sure. )
1 Nov - Walked 0.50 miles - Ran 2.60 miles - Driveway and road
2 Nov - Walked 2.00 miles - Ran 0.00 miles - Treadmill
3 Nov - Walked 0.60 miles - Ran 2.50 miles - Treadmill
4 Nov - Walked 0.60 miles - Ran 2.50 miles - Treadmill
5 Nov - Walked 1.25 miles - Ran 0.00 miles - Driveway12.55/80 miles goal
Today was scheduled to be a cross training day. I didn't have a lot of time, so did a walk on the driveway this afternoon.
Matt Fitzgerald suggests an inclined treadmill walk for cross training, but he doesn't say what the intensity or duration should be. Does anyone know what is best? I was also thinking about maybe doing my Nordic Track cross county ski machine some and counting the mileage I rack up on that. I don't know. Knowing me, I probably won't stick with the exact plan anyway, so it won't matter. Just wondering out loud (on paper). 😂

November Goal: 140 miles
11/2: 6.25 miles
11/4: 3.32 miles
11/5: 6.04 miles15.61/140 miles completed for November
Today my plan called for 6 mile interval run. That was the last speed work before Saturday. Tomorrow should be an easy 3 mile run and Friday will be a rest day. So far, it still looks like the weather should be good on Saturday. If anything, it may be a little warm.

Hi!
Im so happy to have found this! I ran 5ks and a couple of 10ks when I was a young woman, but I never thought I would run again do to knee issues. My knees are actually doing great now, and Ive just started to run this month. I can run a mile but it's a lot. My jack Russell terrier loves it. I'm going to say 40 miles for November. I hope to run a 5k in May with my son.

Welcome @Stingray101 , I am glad you are here too.
It is motivating seeing all of us here working toward our monthly goals and making progress.
We appreciate Jack Russell terrier pics too 😁

@Stingray101 welcome!
@quilteryoyo the how huffy bit is usually a good gauge for intensity settings
@kgirlhart good luck for the race!
Wed evening session was supposed to be a redux of Tues vo2max session since I flunked that. Didn't happen. Was a warmer night at +3c! Was already quite dark at 5.30pm. Where's everyone gone from the riverfront? Just could not get up to speed and breathing was effed. Tried to do the vo2 sprints but flunked again. Twigged the right hip in the process. I think it could be the new statin meds. It's supposed to have myalgia as a side effect. Going to stop that for a bit to see if things improve. Meanwhile am hobbling on, tylenol is my friend…
Pretty lights in the dark tho, empty pathways

@quilteryoyo I am not following any one plan in particular as I know mentally I would give up once I am 'off plan' if I had one plan to follow.
So instead I try and modify general advice from established sources such as Runners World the Running Channel etc, to fit with some short & medium term goals, giving myself lots of small targets so I get the sense of progress. I even modified C25k to help make it easier for the way I think.
When I've given up in the past, I think having too many hard runs has caused injury/fatigue /demotivation (as well as my other excuses) & I've read quite a lot recently about 80/20 easy runs & Heart Zones, so I think its next on the big list of things that I could do better.
Edit: jeez this response is long, brevity is not my friend today.

After a long winded ramble from me about HR Zones that has probably bored everyone to tears, I realised my watch was on 2% when I got on the treadmill this morning so no HR run for me today.
Instead I did my hard run for the week (this is either, some incline, intervals or I just peg it as fast as I can)
Went for option number 3, result 5km: A new post-pandemic pace.
3/17 runs 20km/110km

Any talk about running whether it be HR zones, training methods, cross-training, scenery, pets, food, etc. makes this group happy! 😄

Cumulative total: 11.4 mi
Monthly goal: 50 miCan't say what a recommended incline treadmill session should be, but before I lost enough weight to resume running, my cardio of choice was incline treadmill walks. Started small, just 20 minutes at a normal walking pace, at a small angle (3%). Over time I incrementally increased the duration and incline, until we get to my session I did today: one hour at 15% incline at 3.0 mph. Easy on the joints (no complaining from my knee today), but still gets you huffing and sweating.

11/6 .91 mi jog with only a few quick walking breaks.

@Stingray101 welcome! Have you considered following the couch to 5K program? It is a most excellent one to get you back into running without injury. It taught me that it was OK to walk and run thru a workout which previously I would have called cheating. LOL.
I had an off day yesterday but did my 4 this morning. It was actually pretty strange but I blame it on poor sleep on Tuesday nite. I woke up and just plain decided NOT to run. I did not even try to trick myself with a "continue the streak" or just do a "mile" self talk. But it ended up OK and I think I am better for the rest day with just a few walks. Anyway 23 running miles for the month out of 100 goal.

Not bad, but also not good as I again started running too fast. Still halfway to my goal for this month, but will be traveling for 12 days from mid next week.7 -

Thanks @WarmJellyfish!
I ran an easy 5K this morning. Tomorrow will be a rest day and the Half is on Saturday. I am excited for it. I hope I do better than last year, but honestly my goal is just to run it the best I can. It is a very challenging course. The hills killed me last year, so while it would be nice to get a PR, I will be happy as long as I run my best.

Hey @kgirlhart I appreciate your modesty and I predict you'll be on the podium. Go gett'em!!!!

Great run @kgirlhart . I hope the weather predictors are correct about Saturday. I'm looking forward to your race report. You're going to do great. Doing our best is all any of us can ask for. Maybe you can PR this course?
Welcome @Stingray101 ! Sounds like a great goal and we do love puppy pictures. Great run today.
@WarmJellyfish I hope your hip is okay and that the meds is the culprit. Pretty riverfront.
You're getting back to your pre-vacation running quickly @tarun_yadavA .
Hahaha @username301 . A lot of us are a bit long winded at times. I understand all of those things that motivate you to make your own plan. Love the little goals which are great to keep you going. Congrats on your fast 5K!
Nice running @Mari33a , @yirara.
That's a long incline walk @nossmf ! I'll have to see what works for me next week - if it is too cold for outdoors, which I think it is going to be.
Nice run @SummerSkier . I'm glad you felt better than you did yesterday. Sleep is so important.

I did a speed play workout on the driveway this morning. With the hills, it made it a little more difficult to maintain the zones and a good pace. Was 5 min in Zone 1, 5 min in Zone 2, 5 x 1/2 min Zone 5/Zone 1, 7:32 min Zone 1. I walked the recovery minutes, so the overall pace wasn't great, but the zone 5 runs were 10 min/mile - ish. Avg pace for the entire run was 13:10 min/mile. Avg Hr was 131 with a max of 152 bpm. The Avg pace for the speed play portion was 12:55 min/mile.
I blew leaves off the porches and driveway for about an hour and 15 min.
Then, I played indoor doubles tennis for almost 2.5 hours. It was fun. We did a round robin and my partners and I won 2 and lost one. Scores were 6-4, 7-6, and 4-6. It's fun when it's so close and the points are good. Lots of the games went to duce also.

Enjoy your race tomorrow @kgirlhart! You’ve done a great job training for it!

After work yesterday, I ran 3 miles on the trails at a local park. There were a lot of leaves on the ground which made it hard to see the rocks and roots but I managed to stay upright. There were squirrels everywhere. How do they make so much noise to be so little? A few times, I would have sworn there was a family of bears frolicking in the leaves but it was just a squirrel running around. I also saw a flock of turkeys out foraging. This park is owned by the city and next month they will change their hours so that they close at 5:00 pm. They are open on Saturdays but not until 8:30 am and not until 12:00 noon on Sundays. I like to start early (6 or 7 am) on the weekends so that I can get it done and enjoy the rest of the day.
@kgirlhart - good luck tomorrow! You have trained hard and you will do fabulous! You are going to conquer those hills - don't let them get you!

Wishing you all the best tomorrow @kgirlhart! Have fun!

Monthly goal: 50 miNo pain yesterday nor today. Looks like Wednesday's knee pain was a one-off, possibly a product of sleeping in a wrong position. Getting older wrecks sleep's restorative powers, don't it?

Nice run @tarun_yadavA ,
Great run @Teresa502 . I agree with you. Squirrels can make a lot of noise in dry leaves. Glad it wasn't a family of bears.
Glad you knee is okay @nossmf . Nice run.
