LESS Alcohol ~ November 2025 ~ One Day at a Time

Spent most of my day between work type things tearing down the studio and troubleshooting. My mixer is toast. Always something. I can work around it for now, but it's frustrating. Got some new music ideas starting to coagulate, so project time is coming up again. Had to go get cat treats, she gets angry when she doesn't get her nightly treat; grabbed a single beer while I was out, so 3 A, 2 AF. Planning to stay AF the rest of the week.
Sending well wishes to all who need them and congrats to those making progress on AF days!

Hi all. So happy to read this thread and see people making progress and good choices!!
Today I did well and stayed AF but it is getting harder. I ordered some alcohol for the house for the holidays and am now thinking that maybe this was not a good idea. My goal was cutting back and not cutting out completely, but still…
anyway, here is my update for the day…
Nov:
AF - 5 (goal 25, streak 11)A - 0

A-0
AF-5 (95)Boy, if there was ever a time I wanted to drink…

@itladyee is today your birthday? In case I don't log in tomorrow or missed it, wanted to wish you a wonderful 65th birthday. You are a gem and I hope this year turns out incredibly better than you ever expected.
So far AF for Nov - 5 for 5. Day 5 I ALMOST opened up my mouth to ask my husband "let's go out to dinner". The power had gone out for a couple of hours and I could not cook. But then the part of my brain that is still sane said: uh, if you go out now, you will order at least 2 wines and the calorie estimate with dinner will be …..and I started thinking about that. It would be over 1,000. EASILY. And once 2 wines are in me, after dinner we'd pop into the supermarket because it's right there and I could buy wine to bring home and my husband and I could have a post-dinner happy hour with a calorie count of maybe another 500 calories. The cost would be equal to about half a lb. of fat that takes me weeks to lose.
I told my wine devil, sorry not today.

@itladyee HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! I hope you thoroughly enjoy every moment and best wishes for a wonderful year!
@NonnieDoiron I'm so sorry for what you and your family are going through. I'll continue to pray and know that we are all here for you.
@globalhiker What you described in your dinner scenario is soooo me…especially grabbing another bottle on the way home. Awesome work making a good decision!
@GGinCA Great start to November!
@mfowler883 If you're A days are one beer, you've got LA part down pat!
@WestCoastGirl_1 Girl! 8 days!!! YES!!! Keep going!
No wine for me last night. SO went to the casino. I went to bed.
Have a great day, all

great to see so many doing well here, i remember how hard the struggle was when i first went AF for two years. I went to AA but had a horrible time finding a meeting that worked as an atheist , i did find a great agnostic group and made many friends i am still in contact with 12 years later . Support is the big thing and finding someone to talk with we all have different levels of struggle . I miss it daily right now but am getting by . aside from Christmas I am going to focus on staying AF for the foreseeable (I don't smoke weed so that isn't going to become a crutch , I have tried Microdosing Mushrooms and it doesn't do anything noticibly physical but i do find it stabiliases any anxiety that is developing from quitting

@NonnieDoiron so sorry to hear about your DH; sending positive thoughts your way, Hugs to you both
@WestCoastGirl_1 8 days - fantastic!
@globalhiker Great decision to stay in.
Stopping on the way home from anywhere is one of my main triggers, and the only way I can get home is to go by the grocery store.

@itladyee thanks for the shout out to get me back here

@Walela617 congratulations on day 6 - nice job!

@chicbuc it may be LA, but it seems that even one beer messes with my sleep. It's frustrating, because if I drink one, I'm not even feeling it, it's just a flavorful beverage and apparently I'm even to be denied that if I want to feel well.
@eddiesmith1 As an agnostic, I never cared much for faith based programs either. Nice to know I'm not the only one. Also cool to see another microdoser here. Not feeling anything is the point, as it's subperceptual, but you already know that. It's amazing how much impact it can have. I use Stamets stack, usually 150mg cubes, 100mg niacin, 1000mg lion's mane, 5 days on, 2 days off, four to six weeks then a two week break. What's your protocol?

Hi everyone, I've not posted properly for a bit but I'm still here in the background, I've just really had nothing new to update with. Good and bad, not much has changed. I don't miss alcohol, though I have been looking for that "something" to replace or exceed the same level of brain feel goods and distraction that I used to use alcohol for. I've yet to find that something, which honestly has been quite depressing. I remain hopeful.
I wish everyone well with their goals.5 -
@NonnieDoiron You're killing it with 95 days!
@globalhiker Congrats on 5 days AF! I believe you mentioned that your nasal stuffiness goes away when you're not drinking. I was hoping mine would go away too. But, so far, no luck.
@chicbuc Congrats on 3 days AF! Keep it up! Yes, I seem to be on a roll. It's funny how I struggle so bad and then after I get Day 1 it becomes easy…Go figure!
@SparkSpringtime69 Glad to see you posting again. We're all rooting for you…you can do it! Maybe today can be the day? It does get easier.
Have a great Thursday everyone and Happy Birthday @itladyee!

@itladyee Happy Birthday!!
@NonnieDoiron I'm so so sorry to hear about your DH
I've mentioned before that my challenge is not so much dry days (although I do try to stick with a few / week) but staying mindful of how much I drink on the days that I do. Starting off strong this month with 2 of my A days under target and the 1 day I did have an over target day, it's because I had an impromptu night out with my parents who were in for a week visiting from 2000 miles away…so I'll give myself some leeway there :) Overall my drink totals are still trending down and I intend to continue to improve - Thanksgiving weekend can result in heavier days for me, so an extra goal this month is to really dial in that weekend!
3 A on or under target
1 A over target (one drink on a planned dry day)
1 AF - will work to add to this number!

Good news all around tonight, friends! I see a lot of goals being met and a lot of good streaks going on! Great work!
Happy birthday, @itladyee! I hope it’s wonderful!
The doctor is referring the husband for a biopsy which apparently is protocol before he gives a recommendation of treatment. So, we’re waiting on that.
My work trip to headquarters the first week of December has been cancelled, but I’m not surprised or upset especially with how travel is now with the government shutdown. The next work trip will probably be in May.
The husband did set up a massage for me today which was amazing, but I’ll be sore tomorrow. She hit all the right spots… pretty much my whole body. lol
I’m hoping for a good weigh-in tomorrow morning. It would be nice.

@chicbuc I actually checked the spreadsheet before logging in here and I saw you were AF today. That's awesome! Keep it up!
@NonnieDoiron You're right! There are a lot of goals being met and some good streaks going on! It seems like we're all on a roll! I wish your husband the best!
Have a good night everyone!

Was supposed to be an AF day but had one 6 oz. glass of wine. That’s the flexibility of living my best LA life. Thankful for freedom from all or none thinking.

Still AF for November so far. 6 AF days done. My motivation is the blood test in a week. I really want to wow the doctor so there's no chance they'll put me on pills with side effects. And I want another half pound off my hips please.
Thanksgiving drinking: last year was AF but years prior would look like the drinking spree would start the day before (stressful last minute food shopping and cleaning), the day of (early day drinking would begin while cooking of course), the day after (because I felt yukkers from the drinking and dessert overload so wine just made me feel better), then the weekend came and I thought - well I blew it! May as well continue through the weekend and start fresh on Monday.
That used to be my earlier Thanksgivings. A cost of about 3,000 calories in liquid alone. Reminding myself if I allow drinking on Thanksgiving it doesn't mean a 5 day all-you-can-drink event. Thanksgiving day drinking before noon is also not ok because the drinking would continue throughout the day.
7 -
@globalhiker ~ Congrats on 6 days AF! And, Good Luck on your blood test!
Your past Thanksgiving weekends sound identical to mine. Like I mentioned before, our liquor store is closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas. So I would stock up on Wednesday. I can't have alcohol in the house without drinking it. So the weekend would start on Wednesday. Then on Thanksgiving, I would drink early in the day while cooking. That's the part that I always enjoyed. But, by the time we were ready to eat, I was useless. And, of course, I would wake up and drink the next day and through the weekend. Unfortunately, for me, it wouldn't stop on Monday. Even if I had been doing good before the holiday, five days of drinking would basically just prime me and most years I would continue to drink through Christmas and the New Year. The holidays were not my friend.
I don't plan on drinking anything this year. We're not having company and my husband doesn't drink…so it's really not a celebration or party (why would I drink?). In fact, we've decided not to cook this year…there is just the two of us, so it's a lot of work for two people. I'm looking forward to a patty melt at the local diner 😁
5 -
@globalhiker. Oh yes all the things we used to do…. Isn’t it great how those drinking spree holidays are now in the rear view mirror? Mindful choices are in control now. For me too. Best wishes for only positive blood test results.

Here nodding my head and raising me hand - I'm also in the pour a drink while cooking dinner group, especially a holiday dinner.
5 -
@SparkSpringtime69 ~ If our liquor store was open on Thanksgiving, I might think about getting something to drink. But, since it's not, I would have to buy and fifth and a pint because I would drink a pint on Wednesday and I wouldn't want to run short on Thursday since the store would be closed. That's just too much alcohol, particularly since I wouldn't have had anything to drink in a month…talk about a hangover. Then I'd probably want to get something on Friday. No thanks! The cycle would begin again! Plus, like a mentioned, we're not going to have any company or even going to cook. There will be no holiday meal to prepare…so, that would ruin the fun of pouring a drink while cooking 😉 And, we won't be socializing with family and friends, so it would be like drinking on just a normal day.

Made the pot roast. Didn’t use the full “little box” of wine. But, I’m not going to drink it either. I put it in the fridge, but I’ll probably just go dump it later tonight.
They schedule the husband’s biopsy, but they scheduled it for Christmas Eve!! Not only is that a horrible day, but it’s 6 weeks away! I don’t think they understand what cancer is.🙄
I’m down 2.4 lbs since last Friday for a total of 18 lbs since I started.
