Total = 25.81km / 16.04 miles (Goal - 132Km / 82 miles)Barely slept Tuesday night for some reason so decided on another rest day on Wed as I was just dragging myself around anyway. Probably should have push a cardio workout, but oh well.
Yesterday, I was hoping to get outside again as the morning was cold but nice & sunny, but the clouds & wind rolled in by the time I got back home. Waited a bit to see if it would clear up & I'd see some sun… it didn't, so hopped on the treadmill for a quick run.
Nothing but rain today while I was on my planned stationary bike ride.5 -
Took 2 days off. Its the meds.Feeling near normal now.

I got up early enough to get my planned foundation run in before heading to work…didn't have to be there until 10:30.
It was 44F (6.7C) and sunny, so decided to run outside. I wore long pants and my sleeves, thinking I would be able to take them off later, but never did. I did have to come in and get my running vest after the warm up walk. Then, after a couple of laps, I came in and got my headband to cover up my freezing ears. After that, I was okay…fingers a bit cold, but not horrible.
I ran 7:10 Zone 1, 15:00 Zone 2, and 10:41 Zone 1. Breathing was a bit hard, making it a sneezy run. Avg pace was 13:08 min/mile. Avg HR was 132 with a max of 150 bpm.

Yay, excellent run in excellent, nearly windstill and slightly chilly weather. I ran super slow for the first 4km and then picked up pace slightly, ending up with an overall fairly fast run again. Need to remind myself to run slowly to prevent blood pooling that kicks in when I start running too fast.6 -
Nice runs @quilteryoyo, @tarun_yadavA, @SummerSkier, @nossmf, @kgirlhart (apparently you had a great race per @chris_in_cal - Congratulations!), & @yirara!
The cold fingers do me in all the time @quilteryoyo glad you were able to push through.
See spoiler#1 with a question to the group about breathing on runs in cold weather if anyone interested.

Total = 25.81km / 16.04 miles (Goal - 132Km / 82 miles)Nice sunny day here, almost made it outside for a run but it was feeling just a bit too cold with the wind for me when I checked. Hopped on the treadmill instead & watched the sunny day from inside (while running in along the California coast with a trainer).
Spoiler 1 -
An aside to the group - Does anyone who have breathing issues use nasal strips? They're like BreatheRite Strips that are marketed to snorers but these are marketed to runners. Just curious as part of the reason I stopped running in cooler weather was being unable to catch my breath after a pretty bad case of Covid.
On one of my summer races there was a bunch of marketing guys trying to get folks to use them to improve their oxygen intake. I didn't see them until after my race but spoke to one of them about it afterwards.Spoiler 2-
So, two days in a row had issues posting on MFP;Today, was trying to run an Active Pulse program on my treadmill - it automatically modifies the speed/incline to keep you in the correct HR zones for the training program. I was using my armband HRM since I never connected my watch to my treadmill.
My armband pulse kept going up, hitting my age max & kept climbing!I felt like I was running right in the zone I should be & checked my watch & it agreed with me.
My treadmill never made any changes to speed/incline even as my HRM was increasing, so wasn't sure if it's Active Pulse program was even working - I assumed my armband HRM was no longer working!
Then I realized, my treadmill wasn't showing my HR, it was showing my Calorie burn🤣.
At some point when I started my run, I hit something and changed the measurements I was tracking. Never noticed and I really don't bother to read the details unless I have too. Apparently I have to!
I'm pretty sure I've now graduated to the 'old guy that is pressing the wrong button.'6 -
Once a week I seem to have a bit of a mare. Was out for most of the day & then full of various meats/carbs, so did a slow 5km quite late.
HR 2 - only 17% (despite going slower than Tuesday). Rest in Zone 3.
I have a 10km scheduled for tomorrow, but have not done one the day after a 5km before.
4/17 runs 25km/110km
6 -
I’ve never heard of using nasal strips to aid in breathing while running @John772016. Interesting.

November Goal: 140 miles
11/2: 6.25 miles
11/4: 3.32 miles
11/5: 6.04 miles
11/6: 3.15 miles
11/8: 13.19 race + .5 mile warmup32.45/140 miles completed for November
I ran the Half Crazy Half Marathon today. The hills were as brutal as I remembered. But it was a beautiful day for running. It was 50°F at the start and 70°F at the end. The wind was light and the sun was shining, but not brutally hot. I got there early to pick up my packet and did a short run around a couple of blocks to loosen up. I was chilly waiting for the race to start, but I was comfortable once I started running. The weather really could not have been better. I started out pretty fast. I know they say don't start out too fast, but I knew that the hills were coming and I wanted to get ahead before I reached them because I didn't think I would be able to get faster once I got to the hills. I felt good about how I ran. I was slower on the hills, so I just tried to speed up on the flats and downhills. I finished with a chip time of 2:09:47. It wasn't enough for a PR. But I really didn't expect a PR on this course. It was enough for 1st in my age group. Last year a woman in my age group beat me by 26 seconds. This year I beat her by 10 minutes. Maybe she had a bad day, but I still felt good about it especially since she is 6 years younger than me. I finished 1st in my AG, 20/48 women, and 38/75 overall.
The medal was nice this year. Last year the were wood and this year the were actually medal. The hoodie is red, too. Last year they were blue so it is nice that they aren't identical. I got a bigger size this year so I could wear it as a jacket. I don't really like wearing hoodies as shirts. The hood annoys me. 😁

Great run @tarun_yadavA ! Back to your pre-cruise running self!
Nice run @SummerSkier . I hope it does cool off for you. I'm not looking forward to our temps on Monday.
You're doing great @nossmf .
Nice run @yirara . Glad you know what you need to do to prevent the blood pooling.
You're doing great @John772016 . I don't think nasal strips would help me as I normally breath through my mouth. That sounds like an interesting setting on your treadmill. If it was connected to your arm band and it was working, I would think it would still change, even if that wasn't the metric you were looking at on the monitor. Oh, wait, I reread it and just noticed that the speed may have changed, and your HR…thinking your calorie burn was your HR is hilarious! Blame it on running brain, not old age. LOL
Good luck with the 10K tomorrow @username301 . You should be fine after a slow 5K today.
WOW! Congratulations on such a great race @kgirlhart ! I think starting out fast when it's flat and the course is hilly is a great strategy! Love that you beat the lady who beat you last year…and by 10 min. Your training is showing. 😉 You look great.

I really didn't want to run today. To give myself a mental boost to get going, I planned on a treadmill run so I could distract myself with a television show, keep my pace steady, and avoid the local hills. (I know. Using the treadmill as motivation is a foreign concept to most of you.) But, the temperature was 66F (19C), sunny and no wind to speak of. Since the high on Monday is forecast to be 32F (0C) with windchills in the 20's, I just couldn't give up on being outside on such a nice day. It was still a mental struggle to get out the door.
I wore shorts and short sleeves and was a sweaty mess when I finished.
The plan called for 1 mile in Zone 1, 4.5 miles in Zone 2, and 0.50 miles in Zone 1. I really ignored that, but tried to keep my HR under 142 bpm (top of my zone 2). I did the first couple of miles on the driveway and then headed out on the rural road. I was actually surprised that is wasn't too bad. My legs started getting tired at about 5.5 miles, but felt better once I got to the top of the hill and started down the other side. LOL
I'm pleased that I actually ran the 6 miles and added the warm up and cool down walks instead of counting that as part of the planned mileage.
The avg pace for the run was 13:08 min/mile. Avg HR was 134 with a max of 154 bpm. Splits were 13:42, 12:55, 13:10, 12:43, 13:25, and 12:54.

ThThanks @quilteryoyo ! And great run today.

WOW! some really awesome work yesterday my friends! Great race report @kgirlhart and 10 minutes is amazing…..😃 COngratulations on all of it. You worked hard and it really showed.
@quilteryoyo I seem to have more and more of those just dont want to days. totally crazy…. but you did it and wow. what a long run with a great pace and HR too.
@John772016 you always have such great stories. Honestly I am laughing at you and the treadmill HR vs CAL burn. @tarun_yadavA told me I need to increase my weight on the apps so I can get better cal burn. That should work right? Then I get more cal allowance! 😎 I found some very lightweight little cloth masks to use for really cold wind and weather but they are to protect and not like opening your nasal passages type snoring things.
Yesterday I chose another 5K speed work and actually managed to get my 5K done in about the same time a Kgirlhart's overall half race time… 😳 But happy with that and it's been a little warmer so my VO2max has been pushing it. 30.44 out of 100 mile goal to date.
The wind is blowing like crazy this morning so I think it might be a little chiller than yesterday….

Morning all.
Got in 5.6M at 10'27.
Firstly, well done @kgirlhart on your Half, and vanquishing your nemesis from last year (and then some! (Haha, I'm sure she's a lovely lady!)).
Look forward to you guys next week
!
Well done @quilteryoyo on your longer than usual run!
Finally, yes, making yourself 10 lbs heavier on strava may yield more calories... But if you eat more accordingly on your daily logging while running the same... Don't blame me @SummerSkier when you have belt buckle issues! LOL!
(the opposite is true if you're lighter, your burn is less, so you're taking a conversative approach to calorie logging!)
7 -
Thanks @SummerSkier and @tarun_yadavA .
I am taking a rest day today. I am a little sore, but just typical soreness after running hard. It is definitely cooler today. The forecast for tomorrow morning is 34°F. I am not really looking forward to that, but it should be back in the 50's later in the week.
7 -
Well done @kgirlhart ! Congratulations on being first in your age group! You did fantastic and look great!

Congratulations @kgirlhart! You did great!! Awesome coming in 🥇!!!!

Happy running everyone. Liked as many posts as I could.
59 of 190kms for the month. Did a middly LSD for saturday and a shorter back to back this morning. Sat started with a stiff hip, loosened up after about 4k, Sun always starts with stiffer legs, again takes about 4k to loosen up. Working my way back up to the 20/30ks for LSD. Both days were coldish at -2c/28f with the wind making it feel more like -5/23. Saturday was a mix of road /trail with some bits having leftover snow from the day before. Getting used to winter running again. Probably have to do the LSD this Fri instead of Sat as I'll be road tripping and hiking/snowshoeing on the weekend.
@kgirlhart congrats again on an awesome race and age win!
Trail pics and leftover snow from the day before, creeks are already frozen

Very fast run (for me that is). I hope I'll be able to somehow do this over 5km. But alas, just one more run and then I'm on vacation for 2 weeks, and then will likely start from the beginning again. Oh well…7 -
Nice runs @kgirlhart (& Congrats on the 1st in your category, Awesome race!), @quilteryoyo (great distance for a 'I didn't really want to run today'), @SummerSkier, @tarun_yadavA, @daria0919, @username301, @WarmJellyfish (so, I had to look up 'LSD' meanings as I was pretty sure you weren't tripping acid), & @yirara!

First snowfall of the season - It's been snowing since I got up before the sun did this morning & hasn't stopped once.
Didn't feel like running today so I hopped on my stationary bike and watched the snowfall while doing a 15K ride. Then I decided that I actually did feel like running, so after that quick bike ride, I then hopped on my treadmill & ran some easy intervals for a 5.6'ish Km while watching the continuing snowfall out the window.Snow not really accumulating too much as we've not had much really cold weather yet, the roads/sidewalks/ground were all still warm - most of the snow was melting as quickly as it landed, at least until later this afternoon. Snow finally started accumulating just before dinner time.

Thanks @SummerSkier ! You're doing great with your running. You are too modest with your pace…you are speedy in my book.
Thanks @tarun_yadavA . Great running. HAHA about @SummerSkier and her belt! 🤣
You're doing great @daria0919 .
Great run @username301 .
Great running @WarmJellyfish . Love the pictures. That is a bit cold for me, but I don't have cold weather running gear. I probably need to get some - naaaaa. I'll just use the treadmill. LOL Enjoy hiking/snowshoeing next weekend.
Very speedy @yirara . Have fun on y our vacation.
You made me laugh @John772016 . Great biking and running. I may get a little snow tonight and tomorrow too. I love snow, but wish it could snow and be warm at the same time. LOL
