John got a whole pack of mince pies for his mercy dash, and Bea said, "The good thing is, I got to see Johnny again!"

Lisa, I got Dave a similar shirt at Samβs a couple of years ago for a similar price. He loved it, wanted more, of course they were sold out by the time I got back. I had to google the label and pay twice as much for another one from Amazon. They are his favorite shirts to throw on over a tee shirt and get cozy. Iβve tried to find more but havenβt had any luck.

Rebecca-What an unfortunate twist of events. Thank you for the card too. I kept meaning to let you know. Itβs the first one, and likely the only one weβll get!
Not a lot going on in my world. Got a second cortisone shot in my foot yesterday. My new long-distance walking/running shoes arrived today so I can start getting in more mileage, hopefully in comfort. I have a little pain today, but itβs still there. He said hopefully one more shot will do it. I sure hope so.
Glad to hear Kim is doing OK. Anyone heard from Annie?
Tracey-You have so much going on. You are handling it very well.
Our trip to Indonesia and Singapore is mostly planned. I just have a few tours to book and a deposit to send. I pulled the trigger on trip insurance yesterday so we could get the pre-existing conditions waiver. We have no intention of cancelling anything, but we didnβt last year either and then the mister had to go and break his leg.
Have a lovely week, All.

your picture is beyond amazing!! Thank you for sharing it.
Tooth is feeling a bit better- pain is managed with just Tylanol- The doubled dose of antibiotics is NOT setting well, even with taking it with food.
My dentist said he thinks I need a root canal on the back tooth. It is not my wisdom tooth which is great news. He doesn't do the root canals anymore so referred me to another dentist- They were supposed to call me to set up an appointment just for them to look at it- He didn't call- I am hoping to put off until the first of the year the root canal when my insurance resets, if I can. If it starts hurting or the infection doesn't go away, I will go ahead and get it done, but have to pay full pop on it :(
Decided to stay home from zumba again today- hate missing it, especially when the teacher will be taking 3 weeks off over the holidays to go back to the Philipines. Just not feeling up to it.Michelle- I am forcing myself to eat because if I dont , the antibiotics really mess up my stomach- they are doing it now and I ate before taking them.
I have only had fresh pierogis one time when we were in Seattle- they were so good. They were at Pike's Market(well, across the street from the actual market)Debbie

πRebecca, Your wonderful card came a few days ago but I waited until today when I could sit and enjoy it before I opened it. It was fun hearing about your family and your adventures this year even though I remembered hearing about them as they happened.
πΊοΈ Michele, now I am even more grateful for my library having both Libby and Hoopla.
π I went out today to further strengthen my social skills. My financial advisor's office held their annual open house and I went. First I stopped at Walmart to buy a toy for the Toys for Tots collection that they support. I parked in a spot far away from the door and with no one around to disturb Annie. Between the walk in the parking lot and the long walk to the toy department, I added to my step count. I had no idea what to get but I encountered a woman in one aisle who was pondering a section of toddler toys and she was concerned that she was in my way. I assured her that she couldn't[t be in my way because I didn't know what I was looking for. She asked who I was buying for and then told me about a few things on the shelf next to us that she'd bought before and recommended one to me. It was in my price range, wasn't violent, and didn't have a lot of small pieces so I thanked her for her help. Then I used the self serve checkout and went back to the car. I got to the open house about half way through just as all the people who came right at the beginning to get the best food, were leaving so it wasn't crowded. I had already eaten my lunch and had no interest in eating anything but I allowed one of the hosts to tell me about all the food and I said all the right appreciative things. Then miraculously I discovered that one of the few people there was a woman from my line dance class and she was talking to the daughter of another of my line dance students so I could sit down and talk comfortably. Other people joined our conversation and I was able to sit there for nearly an hour.

Margaret - I missed not having cranberry sauce on Thanksgiving. I went back and found your recipe using orange juice and maple syrup. I'm going to give this a try. I don't have to cook up the whole bag of berries - unlike if I'd open a can of jellied sauce, I'd feel compelled to eat it all. Walmart - $.97 per bag of berries this morning.π
Interesting about your new Medicare supplement. The one I picked does cover gym memberships, and it's about $20 more expensive than some of the other companies, that's probably why. I agree - doing what we can as far as eating nutritious food and cutting out sugar and junk food as much as possible, taking supplements when necessary, getting exercise goes a long way in staying healthy as we age. We do what we can.
Heather - glad you had a nice lunch with G sounded yummy. Bea is such a treat. John is making such a good impact on your grand's lives.
Mo - wow, another bear attack. We live in the wild kingdom. I haven't been able to pin T down and see what became of the bear that attacked her neighbor. Sounds like you are making some headway on your packing and tossing.
Melanie - look at those galloping horses! I can hear the hoofbeats. Are they having oats?
Michele - I actually have had frozen pierogi's and thought they were good. But then, I didn't know any better. Can't wait to see your Christmas decorations!
Tina - hope the cortisone shots do the trick. Glad you got the trip insurance lined up. When is the trip again?
Rori - how are you doing and any updates on your travel-mate? Has she had surgery?
Debbie - glad you were able to see the dentist, if I remember right sometimes it takes a while for the antibiotics to do the job on teeth. I could be wrong. I don't envy you having a root canal but if that's what it takes, it's worth it.
Barbie - another trick of Rosie's is to "take on" other dogs. She runs over to the fence and picks fights with the neighbor dogs whenever possible, she doesn't care if they are 80 lb. labs. Hackles up, barks her head off. I guess she's trying to protect me, though she does it when I'm not close by. She's not that brave off the property, and she's very good on a leash, but I'd rather let her run wild in the back yard. π Our previous dog, Sophie the schnoodle, was such an angel. A cuddler, loved everyone, no nuisance barking ever. Rosie is the devil's child, lol. Doesn't come when I call her name, but does come if I whistle. Of course, that gets all the other dogs in the neighborhood barking. I think Rosie does that on purpose.
Credit union - My visit to the credit union this morning = good results. I was helped by one of the employees who has been there a while and it was a breeze like I'd remembered it. π They should make her the trainer.
Let it rain⦠The weatherman thinks we are having an "atmospheric river" next Sunday/Monday/Tuesday. Looks like the area north of Seattle might get quite a bit. Let it rain, except I want to put up more of a rain barrier around the hen pen if possible. Thelma is molting, feathers everywhere and she does look kind of sparse. Thankfully, no freezing weather for at least a couple weeks so she should be fine. Gladys and Fairy are pretty much done with their molt from what I can tell. Amazing how fast those new feathers come in. Girls are gulping down chicken feed like mad.
That's a wrap.

Lanette I also chopped up two dates and cooked them with the cranberries in the orange juice to sweeten the cranberry sauce besides using maple syrup to taste. Next time I make it I am going to try and add the zest from the orange too so it has more of the taste the way my mom made it. I did have it as a condiment because of the added sweetness. I just finished the last of it tonight!
I think my attitude about my health comes from my sister she went through cancer and she would say she wanted to have a new body. I understood why she felt that way. It made me think you only get one body in this life and how you take care of it is your responsibility. I didn't say this to her because her illness was too far gone at that point, but it was not too late for me to change some of my habits to take better care of me. One of my friends likened it to a house. The body you live in is your house and a house needs love and maintenance if it is going to look good and have fewer problems to give you a good place to live.

The Dept of Health here is trying to put together a 20-year Preventative Health Strategy.
One of the things they did was to put out a survey about what Preventative Health means to us β¦ I completed that survey. There were other discussion papers, submissions, etc.
From what little information we've received after that first information gathering phase, heaps of different things were mentioned, but I was a little disappointed that so far it appears there is not as much emphasis on exercise as I would like to see. But the initial draft has not been produced yet, so we'll wait and see.
I post a wellness wheel each month. All these things contribute to a preventative health strategy.
But I would develop the Physical Wellness wedge more.
This wellness wheel says, "Recognising the need for physical activity, diet, sleep and nutrition."
But physical wellness can include more:
AI tells us physical wellness includes:
Physical activity: Regular movement, such as walking, stretching, or strength training, is crucial for building strong bones, muscles, and a healthy heart.
Nutrition: Eating a balanced diet that includes carbohydrates, proteins, healthy fats, vitamins, minerals, and fiber provides your body with the energy and nutrients it needs to function and repair itself.
Included here is "avoiding harmful habits": This includes avoiding things like excessive alcohol, tobacco, and other harmful substances that can damage your physical health.
Sleep: Getting 7-9 hours of quality sleep per night is essential for your body and brain to repair and restore themselves.
Stress management: Finding ways to relax and manage stress is important, as prolonged stress can negatively impact your physical health. Physical activity, sleep, and a healthy diet are all ways to help manage stress.
Preventative healthcare: Scheduling and attending regular health check-ups allows for early detection and treatment of potential health issues.
Another source adds "hygiene". Hygiene is defined as any action taken to maintain health and prevent disease. This can pertain to the daily practices of showering, washing hands, brushing teeth and flossing.
And another source adds "safety" to include things like wearing our seatbelts, using helmets, obeying traffic laws and workplace safety rules,
Rest and recovery: Allowing your body time to rest and recover is as important as physical activity. This includes taking rest days from strenuous activities and ensuring your brain gets time to rest during the day.One of my favourite things to focus on is physical activity.
Both my husband and I were very, very active right up till his accident in 2018. But the neurosurgeons and specialists all told me that his level of activity would help him recover β¦ and did help him recover as much as he has. If he had not been as strong as he was β¦ who knows.
My fitness level dropped quite a bit after his accident and has been barely at a maintenance level for several years. But this year, I decided that, with 2 years to go till I'm 60, it was time to get active again and I've surprised myself!!
My cycling distances are not up to where they were in 2016, 2017, and early 2018. But my speed is all right. My walking and stair climbing are comparable to what they were.
A couple years ago, I was teetering on the brink between a normal blood sugar and prediabetes β¦ now my blood sugar is normal.
Exercising 150 minutes per week could help reverse prediabetes
"Researchers found that exercise had a significant impact on reversing prediabetes. At a follow-up check a year later, about 58% of the group met the 150-minute weekly exercise quota. These people were more than four times as likely to have normal blood sugar levels compared with those who exercised less. The researchers added that exercise can help lower blood sugar and reduce excess weight, the two major factors that can cause prediabetes to progress to diabetes."
Our bodies are built to be strong and active. I've always thought that if everyone made full use of their bodies, right from when they were little, we'd all be healthier.
But don't forget the other aspects of physical wellness too.

We've got a swarm on our deck!! It's gorgeous! It's amazing to see!! So exciting!!
But it is beyond our beekeeping skills to capture it, so I've contacted our mentor and she or another more experienced beekeeper should come out tomorrow to collect it.
Sadly, I've got an all-day meeting tomorrow so I will miss the excitement.
We don't think one of our hives swarmed, although anything is possible.
