Lisa, I got Dave a similar shirt at Sam’s a couple of years ago for a similar price. He loved it, wanted more, of course they were sold out by the time I got back. I had to google the label and pay twice as much for another one from Amazon. They are his favorite shirts to throw on over a tee shirt and get cozy. I’ve tried to find more but haven’t had any luck.

They brought me all sorts of things that hook up to a little tablet, and sends all the info to the home health care people ,then the OT came and went over things, most likely to get a lifeline so we shall see about that

Lanette I also chopped up two dates and cooked them with the cranberries in the orange juice to sweeten the cranberry sauce besides using maple syrup to taste. Next time I make it I am going to try and add the zest from the orange too so it has more of the taste the way my mom made it. I did have it as a condiment because of the added sweetness. I just finished the last of it tonight!

I think my attitude about my health comes from my sister she went through cancer and she would say she wanted to have a new body. I understood why she felt that way. It made me think you only get one body in this life and how you take care of it is your responsibility. I didn't say this to her because her illness was too far gone at that point, but it was not too late for me to change some of my habits to take better care of me. One of my friends likened it to a house. The body you live in is your house and a house needs love and maintenance if it is going to look good and have fewer problems to give you a good place to live.

The Dept of Health here is trying to put together a 20-year Preventative Health Strategy.

One of the things they did was to put out a survey about what Preventative Health means to us … I completed that survey. There were other discussion papers, submissions, etc.

From what little information we've received after that first information gathering phase, heaps of different things were mentioned, but I was a little disappointed that so far it appears there is not as much emphasis on exercise as I would like to see. But the initial draft has not been produced yet, so we'll wait and see.

    image.png

I post a wellness wheel each month. All these things contribute to a preventative health strategy.

But I would develop the Physical Wellness wedge more.

This wellness wheel says, "Recognising the need for physical activity, diet, sleep and nutrition."

But physical wellness can include more:

AI tells us physical wellness includes:

Physical activity: Regular movement, such as walking, stretching, or strength training, is crucial for building strong bones, muscles, and a healthy heart.

Nutrition: Eating a balanced diet that includes carbohydrates, proteins, healthy fats, vitamins, minerals, and fiber provides your body with the energy and nutrients it needs to function and repair itself.
Included here is "avoiding harmful habits": This includes avoiding things like excessive alcohol, tobacco, and other harmful substances that can damage your physical health.

Sleep: Getting 7-9 hours of quality sleep per night is essential for your body and brain to repair and restore themselves.

Stress management: Finding ways to relax and manage stress is important, as prolonged stress can negatively impact your physical health. Physical activity, sleep, and a healthy diet are all ways to help manage stress.

Preventative healthcare: Scheduling and attending regular health check-ups allows for early detection and treatment of potential health issues.
Another source adds "hygiene". Hygiene is defined as any action taken to maintain health and prevent disease. This can pertain to the daily practices of showering, washing hands, brushing teeth and flossing. https://www.rtor.org/2015/07/09/physical-wellness/
And another source adds "safety" to include things like wearing our seatbelts, using helmets, obeying traffic laws and workplace safety rules,

Rest and recovery: Allowing your body time to rest and recover is as important as physical activity. This includes taking rest days from strenuous activities and ensuring your brain gets time to rest during the day.

One of my favourite things to focus on is physical activity.

Both my husband and I were very, very active right up till his accident in 2018. But the neurosurgeons and specialists all told me that his level of activity would help him recover … and did help him recover as much as he has. If he had not been as strong as he was … who knows.

My fitness level dropped quite a bit after his accident and has been barely at a maintenance level for several years. But this year, I decided that, with 2 years to go till I'm 60, it was time to get active again and I've surprised myself!!

My cycling distances are not up to where they were in 2016, 2017, and early 2018. But my speed is all right. My walking and stair climbing are comparable to what they were.

A couple years ago, I was teetering on the brink between a normal blood sugar and prediabetes … now my blood sugar is normal.

Exercising 150 minutes per week could help reverse prediabetes

    https://www.health.harvard.edu/diseases-and-conditions/exercising-150-minutes-per-week-could-help-reverse-prediabetes

"Researchers found that exercise had a significant impact on reversing prediabetes. At a follow-up check a year later, about 58% of the group met the 150-minute weekly exercise quota. These people were more than four times as likely to have normal blood sugar levels compared with those who exercised less. The researchers added that exercise can help lower blood sugar and reduce excess weight, the two major factors that can cause prediabetes to progress to diabetes."

Our bodies are built to be strong and active. I've always thought that if everyone made full use of their bodies, right from when they were little, we'd all be healthier.

But don't forget the other aspects of physical wellness too.

    Morning, kidlins,

Hope all is well with you and yours - a dark and gloomy day here in Arkansas, but that just makes it a really nice day to stay home and do the things, so I shall.

Terri - I'm sorry your back is still messing with your life! Hope you can find some resolution to it soon.

Machka - Exciting that the bees apparently believe your house is the place to be. The news must have gone out in the bee community. Just a question - if the people who move bees did not come along, what would happen with the swarm?

Heather - Just happy-making, the thought of how the kids feel about Johnny. He seems like such a lovely man for them and for you. Glad your friend was able to retrieve her phone. These days, it's like losing half your life to leave one behind somewhere.

Sitting here once more with a head full of hair dye. I did NOT like the way the previous one turned out - it was just too pink, and left most of the gray strands untouched. This should, fingers crossed, get me all the way back to blonde. My hair will be a bit dry, but lots of conditioner should keep it looking OK until I can get back to the hair cutters and get the ends snipped off.

Dishwasher's going, and as soon as I get the hair dye washed off in the shower, I'll get the washer going, too. Might do a little floor cleaning, but doubtful. Still my most hated chore. I think I'll go get on the rower while the dye is doing its thing and get that done, and then I can play the rest of the day with cloth and yarn.

    Later, my dears.
    Love,
    Lisa in Arkansas

Yesterday we took a drive to about 5+ rental homes that we have scheduled to walk thru today. One had a steep driveway down to the garage door. I'm like nope, that is how I die right there, ploughing into the garage door after slipping on the driveway! One was in a nice neighborhood, with gorgeous homes on each side, however that home was a bit plain compared to them. The poor relation of the neighborhood! But it did have an RV pad, which would be good for son, working on his scooters, and truck. Another one had nice curb appeal! Pricey as it was 2 blocks from a grade school so for a family with kids, a perk, us not so much. One had a chicken coop, husband is like no Rebecca we are never getting chickens! Lol!

After driving past a handful I noticed my "Wandering Asian" food truck was open so I told husband to stop and got 2 spam musubis! Dinner easy, with a protein shake.

The other day I saw Premier mint chocolate protein shake at Wal-Mart and its really good. A limited Christmas flavor. It has 30 grams of protein in an 11 oz carton.

Well almost have sons Legos all packed. I will take a photo of all the boxes when we're thru!

    Good morning!

I've been reading but unable to comment … just a busy time for me.

Barbie … thank you for moving us into December.

Since increasing protein and exercising with weights (started Nov 3rd), I have lost 7 pounds. I have not accomplished this type of loss for a long time. I'm somewhat disappointed that I couldn't accomplish these kinds of results with intermittent fasting, but the truth remains that in 6 years I never reached the number I'm at now. I restarted my rehab exercises for my knees and, while they still ache, I have regained some functional mobility. So November was a win. December goals are to continue with healthy eating and a concerted effort to eat protein and keep exercising. I would like to lose 4 pounds by Christmas just to have a round number staring me on the scale that morning, but I'm ok if I don't.

Mo … thank you for mentioning me! No, we have not replaced the bed and we are generally miserable with it. I keep thinking that if I lose more weight it will get better. In any event, the money isn't there right now for another large purchase (and the store will NOT take this one back) so we'll just have to tough it out.

Kim! … so sorry to hear that your mom has been in the hospital and soon nursing care. Praying you're taking care of yourself!

Rebecca … a move! Arghh. Not what I would want to be contemplating right now. Of course, my house is not nearly as minimal or streamlined as yours. Congratulations, too, on reaching Onederland! Your hard work is paying off.

Allie … how tall are you? I thought you were around 5'8" (which is what I am) and I will never reach a goal weight of 120. Wouldn't be feasible. I am glad to hear that you are getting help with rebuilding muscle and strength. Don't be surprised if the number on the scale goes up as you get stronger.

Machka … that swarm is something awesome! Sorry you won't be able to watch it being contained.

Tracey … it sounds like your MIL is settling in well. I'm not sure how you're managing it all in a smaller home, but if anyone can do it, it is you with all of your creativity!

Melanie … I loved the photo of the hoar frost!

It's a strange Christmas season for me this year. I'm not baking. Anything. My husband shouldn't eat them as he's a diabetic, my son won't go near them while he's working on his health goals (lost 65 pounds since mid July) and I don't want to derail my current efforts. Doesn't seem quite right to not be baking cookies. Almost sacrilegious.

The predicted Thanksgiving snowstorm did not affect my house or visiting my mom. But 5 miles south of us got hit pretty hard. Since then it's just been nuisance snow. About 4 inches of new snow this morning, but roads are already clear. It's that time of the year.

    Have a great day!

Rebecca - just read your Christmas letter..Just lovely..so glad everyone is doing well..

Got up did 2 loads of laundry, have one in the dryer now..have dishwasher loaded but scared to run it last time it leaked all over the place.

Think I found the sweet spot for sleeping because Siri had me up at 5:30 this morning..little turkey..

Tracy is getting I think her last ultrasound before delivery today, she is taking both kids ,Miles wants to see..

Im almost to my goal weight 123.2 this morning,I see the dietian by video next tuesday, and the 16th weight loss dr.. Im sure I will end up going to a tapering dose.will show you ultrasound pictures when I get them..

Lisa - I gave up dying my hair a year or so ago. Im embracing the salt and pepper era

I can send you a single serving recipe gal site on FB. Just ask me about it and I can send you the link. I have saved the single serving molasses cookie, and a single serve chocolate crinkle cookie. It just makes one or two cookies. Perfect for a treat now and then, without having a container talking to you "eat me"!

     - how are you doing and any updates on your travel-mate? Has she had surgery?

Lanette: Thanks for asking. As Heather noted, the further away I get from the episode, the more it neutralizes it's grip on my psyche. I've returned to work and being busy around my little place. I'm still discovering missing apps and spend over an hour a day tinkering on my new phone. Grateful! As more people hear about the trip, they are rallying to my side, which makes me feel self-conscious and humbled.

Beth: Proud of you for the weight loss and resolve not to make cookies. Maybe as a family you can take the savings of time and resources and put it into something that is healthy and delights all of you.

Machka: The bees look awesome. Have you gathered your honey yet?

My travel partner had surgery in Casablanca the morning after her fall. They put in a German made titanium rod. She still has her own original hip, which is good. D is at her 96 y.o. father's home, where her sister is the caregiver. I haven't checked in with her in a few days, and honestly, I need a bit of distance for now. I imagine she is exploring options for rehab and getting the therapy required to restore to her full strength.

I am getting a Reiki treatment today. It is one of the best things I do for my body. Then I may grab some lights out of my garage and attempt a little decorating and cards. Stay well, friends. We can do this.
