You cannot spot reduce fat outside of surgical procedures. All you can do is eat at a deficit and exercise and your body will determine where it burns fat.
Core work/Ab work may help the appearance of the area but it will not cause reduction of fat in the abdomen.0 -
Add in some weights if your not already... Not specific to abs, but just weights over all will help shed that fat since muscle burns more calories then fat at rest. Combine that with the cardio you're already doing and you'll be good to go
Plus getting rid of stomach fat seems to be a lot more diet, then it is exercise.. so make sure you're eating lean protein, fruits and veggies.0 -
Skip the cardio - no studies have shown that it helps with fat loss other than to limit your net calories.
weight/resistance training is much much better for burning fat and making your body look awesome (ie crunches, weight lifting, burpees, etc)0 -
I cut carbs, especially bread, and notice a loss in the belly area! Good luck!0

I wouldn't skip the cardio- after all, your heart is a muscle and needs a work out too. I would do what she said other than that! Plyometrics are awesome. I also do tae bo, a combination of strength movements and cardio. My body shape has changed from it for sure, but their are other programs that combine cardio and strength moves if tae bo doesn't interest you.0 -
Abs are made in the kitchen my competitor friends tell me.
if you really want to see your abs you must REDUCE YOUR SUGAR AND CUT SIMPLE CARBS.
Thats really hard to do. Good luck!!0 -
you can't pic where the fat goes, and can't pick where it leaves, if you want a stubborn area gone, its all got to go.............guys tend to lose last in belly, girls in thighs and butt.........0

Increase the protein, whole grains, nuts, beans, legumes, etc. That is very important because if you are still taking in sugar, starches and bad carbs, it won't go anywhere. Add resistance training to your workout, and planks are awesome for your core.0

My personal trainer advised interval training, kettle bell exercises and strengthening my core with exercises such as plank, using a stability ball, etc.0

walking helped with mine.. but dieting helped most of all.. abs are made in the kitchen, not the gym0

since muscle burns more calories then fat at rest.
While technically true, the difference is trivial.0 -
Which part are you trying to refute with your horse study? I'm just curious.0 -
The correct answer is:
Whichever type you can consistently do.0 -

LMAO. This study is ridiculous. It's on horses. Can't you do better than that?0 -

Very true words!
I hate cardio, and I was able to lose over 100lbs without cardio and I was able to get my bodyfat percentage into single digits without cardio.
If you like it, then great, do it. But I hate it when people say "you have to do cardio to lose weight" it's simply not true. Also you can give your heart a great workout with strength training.0 -

Spoken like a true prodigy. Well said.0 -
and FYI...when people say "abs are made in the kitchen" they are NOT suggesting to do your crunches in front of the fridge.0

a caloric deficit...
if you are already pretty lean then there may be a thing or two to help out (HIIT etc)0 -

It will always come down to your dieting. Professional body builders when it's competition time and there days away. They fine tune their diet in order to come on stage peeled, ripped, etc. And they only increase their cardio time if they even do it.
Same goes for the average person. If your trying to lose that last 5-10lbs it all comes down to fine tuning your calorie consumption. Make adjustments to how much calories your taking in. That can be increasing protein, decreasing carbs, increasing fat, etc. Making minor changes to the macro-nutrients that overall affect your total calories consumed. Just stick to your cardio routine and make the adjusts in your calories. If you really want to do something different with your cardio. Then think about doing Plyometric exercises, like sprints, etc. Explosive type work outs, similar to HIIT. That's solely up to you though.
When I want to dial in that 5lbs or so, I just look at my calories make the changes, and leave my cardio the way it is. And bam, I've lost those last 5lbs and sometimes even surpass it. Just food for thought! Good luck0 -

I would agree to this. I was in a rut, but started lowering the carb intake and have noticed my belly has been finally going down.
Good luck!0 -
Keep up the great work..but you have to keep eating healthy and burn way more than you eat.0
