HI! I just wanted to get everyone's opinion on diet pills. I have tried many of them both prescription and non prescription, and I see new ones all the time that are oh so tempting. So I would love to hear your opinion! Also if you are in favor has anyone had any real success with any??

i wouldnt even take a doctor prescribed diet pill. remember fen phen?0

My vote is no. Also, in order to measure success with one you would need to know what effect (if any) the pill is having in addition to (above and beyond) what the individual is doing to lose weight. In other words, I would suspect in most cases, the cause of the weight loss was calorie deficit and not enhanced thermogenic effect of the pill. Maybe there are exceptions to this but I wouldn't recommend them.
This is just my opinion.0 -

Oh yeah, didn't that drug ... kill people?0 -
Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.0

I wouldn't take a diet pill. It's not natural...better to just lose the weight through healthy eating and exercise! that's what I'm doing0

I believe that the fat blockers prescribed by your doctor will do the job but you still have to eat a low fat diet or suffer the messy and embarrasing consequences.
Other diet pills may do the job but are dangerous to your long term health
The rest are just scams to get money out of desperate people.0 -
I took one one time (Hydroxycut) and I thought my heart was going to explode right out of my chest, seriously. It was AWFUL. I would say no to any diet pills, gimmicks, fads or anything with the word "diet" in it. Try doing it natural.
It takes longer, but is healthy and is a lifestyle change, rather than a diet that will not stick. Best of luck!!!0 -
I have tried many myself and some do help with appetite, but generally made me way too jittery. I did use Alli (previously Xenical o prescription) on the directive of my doctor. It did work for a while, but I think it was more b/c I was so religious about sticking to the allowed fat intake per day as to avoid "Treatment effects"0

I've never been fan. Your post that you've tried many and are now thinking of trying more confirms my reasons for not liking them. If they worked, why would need them now (again)?
In my experience, slow and stead weight loss is more likely to lead to long term success because you learn good habits along the way. Quick fixes are just that. Quick. And then all too often you are right back where you started just as quickly.0 -

Looks to me like you've managed to lose 9lbs on MFP without! Why even think about it? I've lost 130lbs and did it med and surgery free! Just exercise and diet is all it takes!0

Glad everyone's on the same page! NO!0

Tried a couple. None of them worked. Some were even dangerous.
Never again.0 -
I agree with the guys above me.
I took a few for a while, and I noticed no increase in weight loss.
don't waste the money or take a chance on your health..not worth it.0 -
Some pills, some times, can work some for some people. They are never a long term solution. Appetite supressants can effectively help jump start a diet and engage the taker into a dieting plan. I would only consider prescription versions. Alli, which is available over the counter, can be used long term but the "method" is not acceptable for many.0

Not only do they not work, but I finally started being consistent about my diet when I stopped being concerned about whether or not the scale was moving. Guess what? It is, but that's because I'm doing what I need to do with diet and exercise. The rest takes care of itself if you take care of those things. Even if diet pills do work (which they don't barring a few FDA approved drugs), they don't teach you how to take care of yourself or sustain your weight loss long term. I understand the temptation, but I promise you, you'll be a lot happier and healthier if you do it on your own. After the first couple of weeks, I started feeling more energized, I started sleeping better, and I just generally feel good. You will too, and the pounds WILL come off.0

Whenever I feel like being totally irrational, irritable, and downright mean to everyone around me, I pop a diet pill. Works like a charm.
For weight loss, I count calories and move my body.0 -
I sometimes will take Oxy Elite Pro. I really only take them if I had a long day at work or need that extra boost to push me through my workout. Other then that I find them useless.0

When they actually come up with something that works and is safe, I'll be delighted. But, it just isn't.0

Personally, I would not take any sort of diet pill. Putting anything like that into your body can damage other things along the way to losing weight. Plus, I'm a firm believer that learning to eat properly and workout is the only way to have any sort of lasting success in the long run. But, that's just my opinion and I'm sure others will feel differently. Best of luck in your efforts to lose the weight!0

I'm sorry, it's after 2pm here. If you eat popcorn anytime between now and bed, the carbohydrate imp (2nd cousin to the insulin fairy) will show up in your sleep and make you fat.
Unless it's brown popcorn, then it's totally fine.0 -
