I believe MFP is Detrimental to my Freedom of Speech

I believe you are defying the rules right now folks.
Thanks for the reminder but I said I would be deleting my account in the next 24 hours.0 -
MFP isn't a governmental organization.
You can choose to be here, or not, and 'they' can choose to have rules for their forums, or not. They do have that freedom, it is a right of theirs; you & I do not have the freedom to break any rules within a private establishment such as here, kwim? That's not what the Bill of Rights says. Just like a fancy restaraunt has the right to tell it's patrons they can't yell obsenities at the dining table, MFP has the right to limit topics as they see fit. And you absolutely have the right to leave under protest.
That said, I see your point, I prefer an only lightly moderated board myself. I haven't really seen problems on MFP, but maybe I'm not active enough, and I haven't been posting long. In any event, I wish you the best of luck on your journey, wherever it may be.0 -

Why wait 24 hours? If you truly felt your civil rights were infringed upon, you'd have already left.0

Gosh, that was quite the dramatic speech. I totally read that as you starting out in a normal tone and standing taller and prouder while getting louder as the music cressendos. (I know I spelled that wrong, oh well)0

Gpoitras: We are having one last civil discussion. Isn't that what it's all about?0

Geif purplez?
You made the mistake in thinking that this forum is "public". It isn't. It's privately owned, and they let us use it. They pay for the upkeep of the site, Sure, it's probably from the ads, but they still pay for it. Therefore, they can put whatever rules they want in place. They could make rules saying "no low-carb threads allowed" etc, and we'd have to abide by it.0 -

Special Snowflake Syndrome is rife today.
No - it's the medical term for the ones that are just TOO special to be expected to be reasonable or consider the rules everybody else has to consider.

You have the freedom to not have your speech restricted by the government. MFP likewise has the freedom to dictate what is acceptable speech on its boards. And you, in return, have the freedom to get mad and leave. But MFP is not restricting your freedoms. The Constitution doesn't apply to private entities.

The beauty of the World Wilde Internets is you can go start your own fitness site and create your own rules!0

If anyone is interested, one of the moderators of a discussion closed yesterday mentioned that mfp is working on allowing groups that would consent to talk about whatever they want. No, I'm not sure how it is going to work. I'm not sure they are sure yet either, since it isn't available yet. I just wanted to put that out there so that maybe you could reconsider deleting your account and pop back here in a month or so instead to see if that option is available yet.
I'm in agreement with those who have stated that they don't HAVE to do any such thing, but since one of the moderators mentioned it. Actually, Steven was very nice and polite in his comment here.

Good luck to you. I'm sorry we never met up before. It looks from your ticker like we both have a lot to lose, and could have been a support to one another.0 -

Bad moderators have ruined boards on the internet since it's creation. There's always drama when you're dealing with this many people.0
