For awhile now I have seen articles on coconut water talking about all the benefits it has and how it is a great hydration drink. I normally do not like to waste calories on beverages, but today I was at walmart and I broke down and bought one. Its a little pricey and only about 22 calories per serving so I thought I would at least try it. I still haven't opened it yet I was wondering if anyone has tried it and what they think of it.

I need to find a good brand. The only coconut water I've ever had tastes like how feet and moldy dish towels smell.
  • It is not too bad... and if you make your own kefir, or get a kefir starter kit from the body Ecology website, you can ferment it into coconut kefir, which is now being studied for all the improvements in autistic children who increase their intake of lacto-fermented foods!

Anyways, that is besides the point... and it is full of good things for you... so enjoy it as a treat! :drinker:

  • I tried coconut water in India, and it was just as nasty there fresh as it is in the can I bought here for my hubby. :P bleh! Apparently, people in India drink it because it cools their body temperature... thought that was interesting.

My family is from Puerto Rico and I love anything with coconut except coconut water. It's an acquired taste I think. My cousin loves Vita Coco though. Make sure to drink it fresh.

Fresh coconut water is a natural laxative and very good for you.

While I have never tried it canned, bottled, etc, I very much enjoy it fresh, as well as the coconut meat itself.
I fact, I bought one last week, the coconut (the lighter brown one, a little larger) yielded about 14oz of "milk", then I stored the meat in a little fresh lime juice which I loved as a snack, and thought it would also be tastey with a dash of salt to cut the acidity of the lime.

I've spent quite a lot of time in Brazil and have had coconut water from a coconut there a few times because they look so exciting and make great photos (shallow! :p)

Don't actually like them much at all though - i find it cooling but kind of tasteless and 'heavy'?

Didn't know it was that low cal though, might have to rethink!

I know the feeling. I hate canned or bottled coconut water. Luckily I live in a place where everyday there are a bunch of people selling coconuts on the street, You just have to make a hole, put a straw and enjoy!!!

That's the only way I really enjoy it, though I like most of the coconut waters with pulp much more than your typical sports drinks ( I despise gatorade and the like, I sometimes drink the plain pedialyte mixed with fruit juice).
