Wow, I have water chestnuts, but not bean sprouts, where do I get chinese 5 spice? I have chives in the herb garden (instead of onion?). This sounds soo sooooo good!0 -

Most grocery stores have asian spices in their international aisle.
OR, if you have any asian markets/stores in your area, they are GUARANTEED to have it.
Its cheap, tastes GREAT and its like chinese potpourri!
I took part in Chinese New Year celebrations with a chinese school I once volunteered for - and the principal told me of a cantonese stew they make for day-one. Its one of a very few dishes where they use potato.. but not alot of it... basically its a brown thick sauce (almost the same consistency as our beef stew here), flavored delicately with chinese 5-spice, the soy sauce replaces the worcestershire sauce, and then add the remaining ingredients to your own liking...
Its REALLY good and comforting food too!0 -

There is just something about the different varying levels of savory Tikka Masala brings. I prefer it with shrimp or chicken, but beef does make it more heartier!0 -
