What's your weakness and how do you resist?

Just curious to see your answers,
My weaknesses are kit kats and snickers -YUMMY
And how I resist them? I don't! - no really, I don't buy them - of course, easy solution. BUT Halloween is right around the corner, my kids are going to bring them home soon by the handfuls and I HAVE NO WILL POWER! HELP!
Thought this would be a good topic with the holiday's around the corner too
Any thoughts?

I build up my resistance to sweets during the holidays by baking until the smell of chocolate and sweets makes me ill. Maybe that is opposite from what others would think. But honestly by the time I am done making chocolate dipped everything the smell of chocolate gags me.
Otherwise, if I am around something I crave - like dark chocolate - I make an event of it. Slowly take little by little, let it melt in my mouth and the taste completely go away before I take another bite. It's the flavor I like, so if I learn to slow down my consumption speed and just savor the flavor I seem to be okay. That is what I try anyway....0 -
My weakness is anything I CANNOT have...
A few days ago we were out shopping and were on our way home... it was lunch time for the girls so we decided to get them McD's... I am sooo used to munching on the fries once the bag of food gets set on my lap... all I did was split open a chicken nugget and took a deep breathe, and then another, and then another LOL.. Then I gave it to the little one so she can eat it for me. I did take a bite of 1 frie but that was it.0 -
Wine and cheese. With wine, I just limit myself to no more than 1-2 glasses a day. For the cheese, I buy low fat mozerella cheese sticks and have one as a snack in the afternoon.0

chocolate.chocolate.chocolate. in any shape or form. I have a rule for my son; he is only allowed candy on a saturday, and only after he has had a meal. I have applied the same rule to myself. If you deprive yourself all the time, I think you set yourself up for failure. SO... the saturday after food rule seems to work for me - I can reward myself for being good, and have it after a meal so I am not hungry and don't feel the need to fill up on empty calories - a few pieces savored slowly does enough for me.0

I am a sucker for ice cream. It really doesn't matter what flavor although I do have my favorites. Most of the time I try very hard to stay from dairy because in truth I am allergic but there are times that nothing will fix the craving other than ice cream.
I have tried sorbets, and frozen yogurts and even mock ice cream from rice or whatever but they just don't hit the spot. When the craving isn't to bad I have frozen yogurt and it sufices.
I love chocolate specially fudge and things like that but I can often tell myself no on those and not feel deprived.

I've never had much of a sweet tooth. My weakness is the Other kind of junk food... Burgers, Donairs, anything with meat in it....0

Whoops I forgot the "How do I resist part"
I just try really hard to not enter certain establishments. I am generally successful enough that when I have, I've been able to prepare by reserving a bunch of the day's calories for the event. ...For the most part.0 -

i dont resist >_< im a vegetarian, so i load up on them...which is very badaddddd0 -
Cheese (mmmm) and chips and dip. Any chip with any dip you name it. For me it's as simple as not buying it in the first place. I go grocery shopping twice monthly and always on a full stomach. Now if I come across it like at work I try to resist as well as I can, but completely denying yourself all the time will only make you binge on something else later, so be very careful! Little savory bites here and there are good for you I say!0

I don't know what your opinions are on Halloween candy, but I can tell you - that is my weakness. I have 2 kids who trick or treat and I find myself dipping into the candy - usually when I get home from work. It seems to help my stress and tide me over till supper. I'm hoping that I can resist this. Does anyone know if its ok to cheat as long as you don't go over your calorie intake for the day?

Chocolate-- Any kind. I simply don't buy it. I had a friend who would bring two bars to work, one for me and one for herself so I simply began bringing an apple and that way I could say I already had a snack but thank you for thinking of me.0

My weakness is Mountain Dew. I drink at least 6 everyday and that is the worst thing in the world for you. I try so hard to drink water, but it is just so plain.0

Chrissi, I used to LOVE mt. dew!! But my dentist told me that was the absolute WORST pop you can drink (for your teeth) It is loaded with sugar... which definitely explained my cavities!
I am mt. dew and pepsi free going on 3 months - woo hoo! And haven't really missed them too much either0 -
hi, i am also a mountain dew addict, i use to drink reg mountain dew but a couple of years ago i started drinking diet code red mountain dew, i lost 90 lbs when i switched to diet mt dew. now i love the taste of the diet mt dews.0

Chocolate... ice cream... licorice... Just thinking about these three things made me gain 5 lbs!!!
That's it... I'm getting on my bike right now with a big glass of water and I'm not getting off till it says I burned over 300 calories!!! : )0 -
Just got off my bike... 343 calories later. I'm so glad I didn't go searching through the house for chocolate!!! Now my legs are so shaky, I don't think I could get on a chair to find the good stuff on the top shelf!!!

I found the weakness in our office kitchen today and it reeled me in and sank it's teeth in me and wouldn't let go. I can't say I'm upset with myself b/c I was fully aware at all times what I was doing.
I'll do better tomorrow... I know I will. I'm right back on track especially since I feel so gross right now....

This last week we had birthdays and well we had a weakness that I hadn't thought about. Enchiladas, I love them, I love them, I love them, there are just now other words to describe how much I enjoy them. I am going to have to get them out of the house very soon.

How I deal with these things…..I don’t bring them in the house.
If they are here in the house (or anything I think I may have a problem staying out of) I have my husband put them somewhere I can’t find them. If I am at my sons I have him take it to his bed room with him when he goes to bed for the night.
I do have one day each week when I allow myself things like that. That day is Friday. Some people call it cheat day I call it treat day. Last Friday I bought a box of frosted sugar cookies from the bakery. I ate several of them. There was over half a box left…..I dumped them in the garbage. I don’t consider it wasting food or money I consider it an investment in my health.
By having that one set day that I can have things like that keeps me on track and I stay with diet better because I know that day will get here and I can have my treat.

I don't always win the battle, but it's best if I clear everything right away, throw out the leftovers and pack up the meal. Once it's bagged, boxed or in the fridge, I can resist. Sitting out, it's up for grabs. I guess out of sight out of mind works for me.0 -

I know it is impossible for me to expect my hun to give up the things he really enjoys. Problem is, i enjoyed them too much myself, and he likes to "treat" me. We talked about it and i told him those foods are my enemy, lol...He could identify with that. He has agreed to take the cupboard that is the most difficult to get into, and make it his. That is where he keeps some of his favs. Other than that, he works 45 mins away, so his car has become somewhat of a rolling convenience store, lol. He loves me and wants to make it easier. Knowing that for me, out of sight is out of mind...this really works well.
Eventually i will crave things, and want them desperatly enough that nothing will stop me...and that is ok. In my mind i have accepted this, and i think that helps me to not crave. Knowing that nothing is really off limits means nothing is taboo. We all know if someone tells us not to do something, we gotta do it, right?.
Also, i have found that eating "right" has become easier . When i come home from my work out...never thought i would be doing that:laugh: :glasses: ...i don't want to have things that i know are not good for me. I am so energised and feel like i am on a roll, that i am geared to make better food choices. I love it.0 -
My favorite thing to do after cooking chicken or a roast in a roasting pan, is to dip bread in the crunchy bits of stuff in the bottom. Now that's a bad habit! :grumble: And I especially love where it is deep brown gravy stuff before you make the gravy. Actual gravy I don't care for that much. Luckily I'm using cooking spray and a grill now for most meals, so whatever I do pick off afterwards won't kill me with the fat content.
I also have decided to stay away from popcorn, believe it or not, because stopping at 2 cups or so is just ridiculous. I can't possibly do it. I have to eat a big bowl. Same thing with tortilla chips even with just being plain with sea salt, I can't just stop at 15 so I've stopped buying them. Luckily, I love savoury tomato and basil rice cakes and they have so much flavour, I'm usually happy with 2 to 4 of them.0 -
redalee, have you tried the reduced fat microwave popcorns out there? I love popcorn, too, and used to always add butter to it. Now I am really into the kettle corn kind, and the 94% fat free version is really good. The entire bag is only 230 calories.
I don't even want to get into my weaknesses... there are too many. BUT, I'll share one. I love love love bread. I love it plain, I love it with garlic, I love it with olive oil, whatever! So, I do my best just not to buy it. I don't have it in my house. SOMETIMES I'll buy bread to go with a meal or when I'm having people over, but I cannot resist it and I devour it.0 -

It depends from day to day. I do know that chocolate is horrible - as long as I don't have ANY, I am fine. As soon as I have one bite, it is like opening a Pandora's box. I will eat ALL the chocolate in sight and then if I am really on a roll after that I will empty out the pantry. So, I rarely keep chocolate in the house. Take last night, for instance. What a fiasco! Those darn Reese's peanut butter cups! I paid the piper and spent 2 hours at the gym this morning, but still!0 -

I used to eat those until I found out that microwave popcorn isn't that good for you. I have a daughter that is totally vegan (she lives away from home, thank goodness - she drives me crazy with her careful foods lol) and into everything totally healthy and organic. But yeah, I do love those, maybe once in awhile I can have a bag - since I drink wine, eat turkey bacon and once in a blue moon allow myself a white bun. hee hee :bigsmile:0 -
Ya, I've heard it's full of preservatives and unnatural things. It sure is good though!
I like to drink wine too. I try not to drink at all during the week because when I drink wine I seem to allow my willpower to drop and then I want to eat everything in site. Do you deal with that when it comes to alcohol?0 -
OMG, Katie, I do, but not so much with wine. I seem to be ok with that, maybe because I savor it. I have, however, given up beer because with beer I get a "what the hell" attitude and start munching out. Plus, I hate light beer, I like the amber ales which have a lot more calories!0

I don't know what it is, but I will be totally fine and have a beautiful glass of wine and be the happiest little camper, but the second I fill my glass up a 2nd time, I crave CRAP. I'll eat everything in site.
BTW, I'm from the Pacific Northwest and I hear ya on the good beer!!! One lite beer that really isn't too bad is Amstel Lite. It has 97 calories and honestly, it isn't like yellow water... it actually tastes pretty good!0
