There is an age limit for a reason. I understand there are some who really need to be on a program, however, they need to be monitored by a nutritionist who knows how to deal with obesity in youth. The only thing we can do is tell them we are going to report them, and hopefully they will get the appropriate help.

As for these kids taking half nude photos of themselves and putting them on the site, I don't quite know what to do about that one. If they were my children I would be taking everything away from them except for thier clothing bedding and food. That's after I snatched a knot in their backside.

Yeah I've noticed quite a few. Not gonna lie I did join this site at seventeen but I was a month or two shy of my eighteenth birthday and wasn't waiting.. lol
    REPORTED!

Um, I do hope this is a joke because I'm not far off from nineteen now.

Which means your kids would probably never do it in the first place! Most parents do not carefully monitor what their kids are doing online. I'm about to curtail my daughter's time on the computer. She's getting where she spends all evening on it. She's playing harmless games (she's using my old laptop right next to me, so I can see what she's doing), but she's just spending so much time on it. She's not going to be happy with me for cutting her time back, but I'm not here to be her friend! She'll still be allowed to use it, but for a lot less time than she has been.

I disagree with the limit on age. Block their ability to use the forums but allow them to use the website. I was an overweight teen, I would have loved to have had something like this website 17 years ago!

    interesting point!

thats what spark teen is for.

I have seen them too, and the scary thing is the one's I've seen are way too thin and complaining that they need to eat less. They definitely borderline eating disorders. To me it's just sad that in our society young girls have to feel this way about themselves. On a side note, i actually knew a young mother who put her 4 year old daughter on a diet, 4 YEARS OLD I say let kids be kids (and yes, I am referring to the teens as well)

My 15 year old son started this journey with me back in April and I wanted to start an account for him but I didn't. I understand the medical side of this, as far as they require more calories and such but I haven't been able to find anything for him to use like this.

I think it would be great for teens that want to get in better shape and balance their health and body to have a resource like this.

Education was a huge part of my succsess on here and I've helped him to understand portion control, balance and health as much as I can but something specific to their developing bodies would be great.

I agree with you. I became a mother prior to 18 and after my daughter I would have loved to have a website like this to lose my baby weight. I do think pictures should be appropriate (nothing borderline porn) as someone mentioned. But this website is great and alot of people in America need help! I come from a city (Corpus Christi) that was named Americas fattest city. I just think people of all age should be entitled to help but with proper adult supervision.

Hi, I'm 15 and my doctor was the one who told me about this site. I was overweight and miserable so we went over my food needs (both as a semi-active teenage and pescetarian) and he helped me set up this profile. My mom is fully aware I have it and she's okay with it as long as I don't do anything dangerous.
I do have a number of friends around my age on here who do set their caloric goals too low but its better they do it here, where every time they submit they are reminded its too low, than somewhere else. They'll be counting calories regardless so there's no help in kicking them off the site.

Regardless of what your doc and/or mother might say, it is against the terms of the site.

Check out www.sparkteens.com -- "Free healthy living and diet program created just for teens!" I would imagine that you and your friends can count your calories there, and that it counsels against eating too little as well.

    Hi Folks,

I regret that the age limit is a cause of concern for some members.

Unfortunately, our system is not set up to account for the nutritional needs of developing bodies.

In addition, there are legal ramifications to allowing the use of the site by those not old enough to enter into the legal contract implied by our Terms of Use.

When I become aware of use of the site by minors, I send the following communication and wait to be certain the members has had a chance to read the note, before taking action to cancel the account.

    Regards,
    Steven
