Me Neither... Used to take pills and lost with them - when i stopped i picked up all my weight and more. This caused me to get depressed and negative. This time i am simply making healthy choices (99 % of the time). I joined MFP on 02 Oct 2011 and have lost 12kg. I have a long way still to go and am so glad that i dont have to remember to swallow a pill as well in my busy schedule. MFP is the BEST!0

just planning to take it for 2months.. ive already lost 7.5kg in 40days... but this is just a kick start to help me eat better.
Rapid weight loss can cause more muscle loss, slowing metabolism and making regain easier.
I would stop taking it soon, it is going to cause more harm than good in the future0 -
I am taking a prescription version of Alli, which is not a appetite suppressant but is supposed to stop the fat from foods being absorbed in your body. I had already lost 70lbs before I started taking them, so I am aware of what and how I should eat to lose weight, I am just using the pills to speed up the process a little. I have not suffered any of the side effects that people have mentioned with these type of pills. To be honest, I wouldn't take them if I had to pay for them, as I am not losing an awful lost faster than I was before, but while I can have them on prescription every little helps. As I understand it my doctor will only prescribe them for 12 months anyway, but I hope to be close to my goal by then.0

Girl! Take it from someone who has struggled with weight all her life and tried every single 'diet' out there just to have the weight come back and then some
If you really want to lose weight and have it stay off you need to do a lifestyle overhaul. A combination of fitness and healthy eating (im doing a diabetic diet which is low carb higher protein no sugars) and exercising 5 times a week .... its a struggle at first cutting out breads and sugars ... I was a horrible human being to everyone around me for 2 weeks ...
HOWEVER
the benefits have been tremendous Im down 64 lbs so far ... I feel energized and healthy. Diet pills dont give you the feeling that comes with weight loss from hard work.
you can do it ... diet pills are a joke ... nothing good or worth it is ever easy .... but with the right support network around you anything is possible!0 -
10 years ago I I took a diet pill that I had found at GNC...It worked, I dropped about 40 lbs, (195lbs to about 155lbs) it killed my appetite and when I did eat, it wasn't so healthy (peanut m& ms and popcorn were daily staples) I looked great because people noticed the weight loss but felt like crap because I was unhealthy. My husband noticed and soon after losing the weight I got pregnant, only to put the 40lbs back on. I lost maybe 15lbs of that when I got pregnant again 2 years later and gained 30 lbs to jump up to 225lb, I lost only 10lbs after having her and in the last 7 years I gradually gained until I reached my highest weight of 248!
Fast forward to NOW...weighing in at 226.2 lb. It has taken me 3 years to go from my highest weight, back to the weight I was when I had my youngest (she is 7 yrs old now). I have a very slow metabolism because I effed it up taking DIET PILLS, 10 years ago, and all the bad eating I had done while taking them for about 6 months. The diet pills are not completely to blame, what I ate and how much I ate also contributed but the diet pills killed my metabolism and has made it so much harder for my body to recover from taking them. I am the epitome of why you should NEVER take DIET PILLS! Stop taking them and do it the hard way...with healthy whole foods, exercise and freakin' determination!0 -

I tried diet pills too, and I gained all the weight I lost back, and then some. Losing weight naturally with MFP works very well. Plus you get nasty side effects with diet pills and it's a waste of money.0 -

omg yall HAVE to try vyvanse if you like that feeling. you are SO much more focused in work/school or whatevs it's like mageic!! and it doesn't make you hungry so you can control prfectly what you eat! i for exaple do track& field and i know i have to eat sth before i have practice. but it's more controlled so you don't just dive into food whenever you feel like it (: and you don't have to take it every day or anything you can take it whenever. but when you see the results after a while you'll be motivated to eat good without the meds (: the problem is that it's not really a special diet drug soo..you would have to find sbd to sell them to you. buut i'm telling you..it's absolute MAGIC!! not just for losing weight..you will be on top of ever single thing you do! focused like a lazer

As for the original poster... I thought I would start off with a diet pill from a weight specialist, aka a diet doctor. I was prescribed Adipex. I took it 3 days. I thought it would help curve the craving until I could do it alone. I was SOOOO WRONG! If you can't build up the motivation to do it on your own, a pill will not "kick start" your road to a healthy life style. The pill won't make you want healthy foods. What it will do is make you lose your appetite and not eat at all, which will just cause you to not eat a proper diet (3 meals, 2-3 small snacks) and result in a slow metabolism. Those few days, I did exactly that... not eat. I have a couple family members who take diet pills constantly (I just recently discovered they just like the energy/high, not the appetite loss), and never lose weight. If they do, it's gained back shortly after the Rx runs out. It's a waste of money. You have to build up the want, the motivation on your own... no pill will make you feel that strongly about such a huge life style change.0 -

I'm not going to repeat the other posters but.... I really hope you are not addicted to this stuff. If you continue to take this medication, do yourself a favor and go get help. Rx drug abuse is no joke. I've had 3 family members die in the last 5 years thanks to Rx drug abuse.0 -
This always seems to be such a passionate topic. I definitely see both sides and I can only comment on my own experience. I've never been considered fat and most people would be happy at my starting weight. I was at my doctor appointment and for the first time, my weight went into the overweight category. Quick medical rundown: Rheumatoid Arthritis, hypothyroid, vitamin D deficient and a weight gain of 30 lbs in 3 years. I had been to the endocrinologist and asked him why my thyroid meds keep having to be increased...is my thyroid getting worse? He said "A bigger car needs more fuel" So my meds were having to be increased because my weight had increased. I told my regular doc about this and she said "I don't think that's true...let's prove him wrong." She prescribed phentermine, 30mg, and said it would stimulate my metabolism but that I'd have to exercise and make sure I eat regularly throughout the day and get 1200 to 1400 calories. With my metabolism, this has definitely been a learning experience...I feel like it basically gave me the metabolism of a regular person. I've lost somewhere around 2 lbs a week, but I've been getting up at 4 am every day to get on the treadmill and have had between 1100 to 1500 calories per day. I've never been one to severely overeat....I had some bad habits, like a can of pringles at a time out of boredom, but I can basically take food or leave it. I've lost about 16 lbs and am not on the medicine anymore (we'll see what happens) but I do know because of the weight loss, I have more energy and I don't hurt all over all the time.
In my case, the medicine helped me to get going...to actually see some results from my hard work. I had done this before on my own...walking almost 7 miles a day and severely restricting calories and losing almost nothing. This has totally motivated me and this time...I'm having the things I like...like Pringles, but a serving...not a can. I have my wine, I have pasta and potatoes and i go to restaurants...but I compensate for that with exercise or by not having very much of what I enjoy. It's about learning a lifestyle, not about a quick fix. At least for me.0 -

Wow, lots of haters on the diet pills! I happen to love them. I take Alli pretty regularly (despite the side effects, it's really the only thing that actually, chemically, stops fat from being absorbed. I also have been using a carb blocker, which is just white kidney bean extract, for a few weeks. Dr. Oz says that the extract actually interacts with your digestive chemicals so that the carbs are not turned into sugar and then fat. I also play around with the "typical" diet pills but don't find much difference/success with them -- Hydoxycut, Slimquick, etc. I've also tried phentermine prescription but after a while, it gives me headaches and I have to increase my dosage because I become less sensitive to it, so I try to stay away from it -- plus my doctor won't give it to me very often. There is no such thing as losing weight "the fast and easy way." If someone tells you a diet is fast and easy, you need to stay away from it because it most likely isn't healthy for you. You didn't gain weight over night, so you don't need to lose it over night. Even when famous Personal Trainers come out with supplimets, DON'T TAKE THEM! The best pill to take is a natural vitamin your doctor has approved.
The best way to train yourself to keep away from certain foods is simply don't buy them. For example, I'm trying to cut down on my bread intake. I found these 100 calorie rounds by Nature's Own and there's only eight rounds in each container. I purposely buy these, not only because they're a healthier option, but because there's only enough to last me through the week without extra servings in the package. I know that if I had a regular loaf of bread lying around the house, I would go and toast a couple of pieces and eat it and then an hour later, I would do it again. By the end of the week, I'd eaten a whole loaf of bread to myself, which is way too much. Just make smarter shopping choices.
Weight loss is not only a physical battle, but it's also a mental battle as well. Just remember those pills may help you lose weight, but they won't help keep it off and they're may be some health affects that could potentially hurt you in the future.
Bottom line: Stop taking the pills. They're more harmful than they are helpful.0 -
I thought about diet pills and while i was surfing the internet to research them....that's when I found MFP. Have not needed diet pills cos MFP does it far far better0

i use to use diet pills along time ago and i would just gain all the weight back . then a couple of months agoi my friends started a diet were she lost 9 pounds in three days and i want to lose weight so bad i tried and it worked for a little while and then it stopped and i gain 10 pounds while i was still on it . so i will never use diet pills again because they will stop working after awhlie and then you will have to take more take a different kind . i am now doing it healthy and thats what i am going to stick to it0

I think you have good reason. Maybe you can retrain your body and it is hard. But I've seen people take welbutrin or someone other anti depressant pill to quit smoking. They do a great job on changing their life for months, but for some reason when they go off of the anti depressant they are back to smoking. I wonder if the pills you are taking will do the same thing. I wish you lots of luck and well wishes!Your right, but im on this pill to teach me how to eat better.. example Duromine stops me from being hungry, so when i do eat i am most likey to choose a healthier meal. im training my body to stop craving bread and pasta and not to eat it as often as i use too. Its just so hard, when all your life you didnt care what went in to your body and now finally im caring..0

im trying to find the slim quick pills my friend has been using them along with eating and working out correctly and she is losing double the amount of wieght . she has lost 18lbs but she lives in mo and i live in fl anybody know where to find them0

Have it ever occurred to you why diet pills don't work? You will gain all that weight back as you have not learned the discipline to be more conscious about what you eat and how much of it, learn to count calories and leave the pills.
Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.
So spend the time and learn nutrition...you won't regret it
sorry but taking diet pill and learning to eat properly are not mutually exclusive.

You can teach yourself how to eat better without a pill. It just takes some research and reading of labels and learning here from people that know how to do it.
But food is only PART of the answer. Physical activity is the other.
