I buy jeans and sweaters from Goodwill - guilt free shopping whilst shredding!!!0
-
That is a good idea0

its hard. I am down 15-17 pounds and already my jeans dont fit, but i know i am going ot get smaller. I will try goodwill, and if not, buy a pair or two to get me by, but not a whole new wardrobe. yet.0

Host a clothing exchange!0

when your cloths stops fitting (as in they're falling off), but new cloths. throw out the old cloths. dont hold on to anything that doesnt fit. (wither its too big or too small). buy cloths that fits your body NOW.0
-
pin them up until further notice0

january sales? at least then if you are going to loose more weight and the clothes wont fit you after a few months, you havent payed full price for them and you can always sell them on to other people and earn a little bit of money .0

Here in the UK I have got a lot of my new clothes from charity shops. As I intend to lose more weight it seems pointless buying lots of new stuff and it is environmentally good to recycle clothes. I have also given all my old "big" clothes to the charity shop for others to enjoy!0

Thrift stores have a lot of really nice items. Buy there and then when they are to big, give them to a friend.0
-
We like to shop at second hand stores for some clothing. I think that's a good way to get clothes that will hold you over until you can splurge on better clothes once you hit your ideal.0

THRIFT STORES!!!!!!! YOU CAN GET SOME GREAT CLOTHES!
My entire closet is thrift! I get tons of compliments too!0 -
I have bought a pair of jeans in an in-between size, simply because I think it's important to feel good in your clothes. I'm just not as comfortable in my pants that are too big, I feel a lot better wearing clothes that actually fit. I just try not to spend much on clothes as long as I'm not at my goal weight yet.0

If you're having a hard time keeping your pants up, it's time. LOL I agree, shop somewhere budget-friendly if you are afraid of buying things that you won't be able to use for long. Thrift shops, clearance racks, even asking friends if they have anything that might work for you that they're not using. Or you can go to a tailor/seamstress and have your old clothes taken in a bit. But that will cost money, too.0

for those of us who are in the bigger sizes, check the closet first - we tend to hold on to all of our sizes. it's harder to shop @ thrift stores, re: afforementioned size hoarding, so if you can't find anything there, it costs not much more to have the clothes taken in. i just went closet shopping this weekend and found a few things that will come out now.0

Hey; what a great problem to have - congratulations!
The reality is that we must buy new stuff as we go or walk around the office looking like we came from the Salvation Army.0 -
I say when your clothes get too big! You want to show off this new body even if it isn't where you want it yet! If you don't feel good in your clothes, it can be hard to feel good about yourself. So, if you don't like the way they look on you, get new ones! If you don't mind, wait until you start to feel frumpy in your too big clothes! (You could see your old clothes on ebay...I had several expensive items that no longer fit me so I sold them on ebay and got cash for new stuff...)0

When you have money to burn.0

Congratulations! That is a great moment! Buy new ones when your old ones are way too big!! If you are only partially to goal then just buy enough to get by on. I am going to take in some some stuff - blouses and the like, and if you can't do it yourself it is an inexpensive way to get new life into your clothes! But trousers, jeans etc I had to buy! You can try charity shops - it is amazing what you can pick up and of course it all goes to a good cause. I also take my old clothes to them as well - kind of recycling! Good luck!0
-
That's what I did, too. I did buy a couple of new things along the way to goal, but found I wasn't in them very long. Then I waited to reach goal and maintain for awhile, before I bought new. It can get pretty expensive if you buy new along the way.0

Unlike me, you probably want to buy new pants before they drop off you in the produce department!! SO glad no one saw that!!
If you think you've got more weight to lose just get the bare minimum so you're not getting rid of clothes you were only able to use for a couple of months. I've gone from an XXL to a S in shirts and from 42 to 29 in pants over a year and a half. I've given away so much clothing that had barely been touched, including some shirts that never got the tags off.
Buy when you must and be minimal until you're at your final weight.0 -
If you're having a hard time keeping your pants up, it's time.
Agreed. I am at this point. I first went to a couple 2nd hand stores (Savers, Goodwill, etc). I then checked out the clearance racks. I ended up with a pair of pants from Wal-Mart and a shirt on clearance. I did find a couple really nice shirts/sweaters and the 2nd hand stores as well.
I plan on this being a "transition size" as I am about 1/2 way to my goal. I plan to just buy enough to get by with and then when I get closer to my goal to really start looking at replacing the wardrobe.
I do feel it is important to buy a couple decent things as a reward for your progress. Maybe a goal of when I reach 50lbs lost I am buying a shirt and pair of jeans to celebrate.0 -
I made the mistake of going out and buying nice new clothes, then kept losing weight and then none of them fit in another 2 months I took a friend's advice and went to places like Goodwill to get 1 or 2 pairs of dress pants for work to hold me over until I got to my goal weight. I didn't have much to lose at the point though. It all depends on where you are and where you want to be.0

Till you hit your goal weight then wait a few months till you go back up to maintenance and see if you grow any.0

Goodwill and clothing exchanges are good ideas (and good for the earth too!) But 30+lbs is pretty significant. I would suggest a combo of new (or new to you) clothes as well as a good tailor. The girl I take my pants to for hemming can also add a stitch here and there to bring in the waist when I loose a bit...you can't even tell. You can also have shirts taken in etc. So if you do buy new clothes, just keep in mind you have have them tailored to fit when you lose even more! Well done by the way!0

If I find a really good clearance, I'll buy a pair or two in the next size down just so I have them (I paid $4.45 for a pair of Mossimo cargo pants at Target!). Make sure to at least check the length, though! I'm 5'8" and bought a pair of 18S, because I wasn't paying close enough attention. S as in SHORT! When I was finally able to wear them I looked like Erkel and had to give them away. I hadn't had any luck yet find pants in the sizes I needed, or that I would actually wear in public, at the thrift store.0

Host a clothing exchange!
Clothing exchanges are fun and a fantastic way to switch up your wardrobe. Great idea!0 -
It really depends on your financial situation. You can get clothes cheap at thrift stores or on eBay, like others have said. Or you can buy new from the store now, then when they get too big, sell them on eBay to fund the next round of clothes.
I started MFP really pushing a size 8 (needed a 10 but never bought them) and I bought a few size 6's at thrift stores but waited to really buy my new clothes until I was a size 4...by then the size 8's looked ridiculous on me. Now I'm not trying to lose any more weight but some of my jeans are starting to fall off again and honestly, it's pissed me off! I spent a lot of money on high quality clothes in size 4s because I didn't intend to get smaller after I hit size 4.0 -
1. I modify mine...great if you know how to work a sewing machine.
2. Get most clothes at a thrift store/goodwill
3. Buy a couple reward clothes (on sale only) each time I hit a certain % lost toward my final goal....weight or size. You don't stay in these very long though, so nothing very expensive.0 -
Go somewhere inexpensive like TJ Maxx, Marshalls, or Ross. Just get a few pants, shirts to get you through until you lose more weight. I just went to Ross and got 3 pair of jean, 3 shirts, 2 shoes and some random household goods for $100. :-)0
-
I'll be doing it pretty soon, even though I'm 5lb from goal, because the fat pants give me too much permission! I'll only get a pair or two of pants, and perhaps have some [really nice] sweaters blocked smaller.0
