Same here in terms of goals. Not perfect with that goal, but I value real food and enjoy those foods most. Feel free to add me.

I cook almost every meal from scratch, but sometimes I have Kraft Mac N Cheese. Am I in?

It's important also to note that it's not always about how long you live, but the quality of your life. My grandmother lived to 79 and was a 3 pack a day smoker for almost 65 years. Sure, she lived a long time, but her quality of life stunk for the last 30 years. She couldn't travel by plane, couldn't walk without a cane or a walker, couldn't drive the last 5 years, had severe rhumatoid arthritis in her hands that prevented her form doing a lot of the more basic tasks in life like buttoning her shirts, and sounded like she was hacking up a lung anytime she exerted herself. She was never overweight, but the point still stands.

Other things like genetics have a lot to do with your suceptibility to certain cancers, heart disease, and other conditions. You can't really control that stuff, but you can control how you choose to make your lifestyle.

Oh totally! Heart disease runs in my family. My grandfather on my moms side had a heart attack at a young age (50's) and died. My grandmother did live long as did her sisters, etc. I see where my mom and aunt (sisters) carry their weight so I work hard and I'm passionate about health. So that's why I try to do whatever I can do, whatever I can control to make my quality of life great. I'm hoping to get my hubby on the bandwagon once life dies down just a little because although he was an athlete much of his young adulthood, marriage, kids and being inactive and still eating like a teen take a toll and he's already on cholesterol meds, reflux meds, etc. We are total opposites in eating. He eats NO veggies, only meats and french fries, turkey sandwiches on bagels, candy..same stuff everyday and it's starting to catch up with him. He was a gymnast and 2nd degree black belt. I've always been active and raised to love veggies, etc. I've had my ups and downs weight wise, but I'm super motivated to be strong, fit and healthy :)

I had to LOL at the washing of the poptarts. Y'all are comedians. Don't forget to tip your bartenders!

you can't get a pop tart clean by just rinsing the outside. its the inside that has all the good stuff

I eat as clean as possible, but schedule and life gets in the way. Having said that, I don't bring anything processed into my home and try to make everything from scratch (read home made vinagrettes and chicken stocks, etc).

I'd love to exchange recipies, although mine are typically just in my head.

Wow vinaigrettes and chicken stock..you go beyond, but that's awesome! I do use packaged chicken broth, but stick to oil and vinegar a lot of the time. I'm always reading labels. time is a factor too. I try to cook on Sundays so i have meals for the week but sometimes that doesn't happen too.

I think the last time i had a poptart was when i was pregnant.

I don't like added chemicals and artificial stuff. Try to eat organic when I can.

I know it's all about calorie deficit, yadda yadda yadda. I just choose to not always eat fake food. Do i indulge? Sure when I feel like it, I don't go for low fat though. If i'm going to have ice cream I want the real deal.

Just wanted to have people that eat actual food not Smart ones everyday ..similiar goals, that's all. If what you're doing works for you then more power to ya!

i tried eating fake food once. I broke all my teeth.

It turned out that the apple was made from bronze.

I used to be kitchen phobic but now that I got over that hump I'm now exploring ways to make things from scratch. I'm with you on vinagrettes and chicken stock!

I love cooking, so I eat a lot of raw foods and mix them up whatever way I want. I do eat bread, crackers, and other stuff. I have to keep my sodium intake low to help control my heart condition. I also write a blog on cooking: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/Elizabeth_C34

It sounds way more difficult than it actually is, the most annoying part of it is putting the put in the fridge so you can skim the fat off easily. But I highly recommend it!.

And as for efficiency, nothing beats it, bake a chicken whole, then use the bones for a stock, then next week make a chili out of the stock! :)
