I'm a girl who once got a chameleon as a Christmas gifts and I routinely ask for tattoo money as gifts, and even *I* think this hit the nail on the head. Nicely written!0

my fav part.... last line.
"Wrap. Wait. For. A. Kind. Of. Busy. Day. (but not too busy). Shortly before bedtime for the kids tell her you will take care of them and recommend she go and enjoy those wonderful bath bombs and candles you got her for Christmas that she hasn't had time to use yet. PAY CAREFUL ATTENTION. You have exactly 10 minutes after the water stops running in the tub or you are out of luck. Let the dogs out, get the kids to bed (bribe them if you have to), lock the doors and turn out the lights in the house. By minute 10 you need to be in the bathroom getting ready to slip into the tub with her. Why 10 minutes? Because after that she will be relaxed and too far gone to even know you are there. If I have to tell you what to do from here step away from the computer, leave the house and never come back. She deserves better."0 -
Some good stuff in there, I say never fear to venture into scary territory with gifts (clothes, jewelry etc). Chances are even if you don't get it quite right she will still appreciate the effort.
I always laugh when we finish work at lunch time on Christmas eve, and the same handfull of guys are chugging down their last beer ready to go out and start their shopping! They are the same ones that give me funny looks when I tell them that I'm finished, and what I bought.
By the way, my last presents to my wife have been a necklace, a handbag and perfume (all with no consultation ). Oh and the last time I bought her flowers was for no occasion at all, just 'cos. (that's a handy tip there boys, they love that s**t! )0 -
I have found my MFP crush. :blushing: And I'm printing this out for my hubby. Thank you so much for this.0

Marry me, please /swoon
Edit: Oh snap, you're already taken Great list - I'm showing this to my boyfriend!0 -
Good man and so very true! My birthday is right before Christmas and usually gets forgotten or thrown in with Christmas. But not by my husband! He recently bought me the best birthday presents I've ever gotten before. It was so special to me b/c he bought me a bagful of gifts. Every gift was something I had exclaimed over or said I loved in the past year. It was so precious to me that he had paid attention for such a long time and REMEMBERED! I cried for a good ten minutes
I would too! That paying attention is the key thing - not just generic rose petals, but dahlias or orchids if you prefer them... or something other than flowers if you'd prefer that! It's the feeling that the person knows you and understands you and has put effort into pleasing you.0 -

That is the most important thing. It doesn't matter if the gift costs £1 or £1000, if they have thought of you and put effort into it, its priceless.
My husband is poor and lazy so any gift I get has been chosen by me and paid for by me (he does eventually give me the money back). This year, if I get what I really want I have to put £25 towards it myself. As well as paying out the allocated £30 on him. I'm thinking I'd rather not have it. Being poor doesn't help but the total lack of thought does grate somewhat. Consequently, I can't be bothered with him either. Anything I have done hasn't been appreciated. No pressure on me either then0 -
Amazing!!!!0

I can honestly say I have never experienced any such romance in my whole life! *sigh*0

Please tell me where can i find one of you?0

Merry Christmas to all! :drinker:0 -
Am I the only cynic who reads is as 'how to get your leg over while pretending to be doing it for her?' I agree its better than sticking a bow on your w*lly and telling her she doesn't need anything else for xmas, but the last para spoilt it for me.
I also notice how a few men say its too much to read, shows how much they care about their SO, these will be the women who lie to their friends about what their bf got them for xmas.0 -

Actually us men don't have to read materialistic nonsense to impress our wifes/gf's for christmas. We do our part by showing our love 365 days, 52 weeks, 7 days a week. We wake up early in the morning to bring you coffee in bed or rub your feet warm during the cold winter months, love can't be bought and if you expected a guess handbag or a cloud nine hair straightener for christmas then you better start saving for my 50" LED TV with surround sound since your love is measured in money and gifts.0 -
Some excellent suggestions, and hopefully not just intended to get laid with LOL. I think the key thing here though is to pay attention and think about things that suit YOUR sweetheart, as there are women in the world who are not into spas, manicures, pedicures, candles, bath stuff, or perfume. One of the best gifts I ever got was a backpack for Valentine's Day/anniversary from a boyfriend. It was a need, want, and desire all rolled into one. (If you're wondering, it was an expedition pack for backpacking, etc, to be used for the first time on an overnight snowshoeing trip!) THAT is my idea of romance...so choose gifts to suit your girl! And in my opinion, the thought behind it is the most important thing, and doing something special is even better! Another fabulous gift was when he built me a bed frame, custom height to store things under it. Very thoughtful.0

Well said!! Hope my husband reads this, :laugh:0

Thank you!0

Ever see a man read a manual to put something together??? Nope we just start putting things together eventually it works. Always end up with extra parts though....weird.0 -
This is great! I might actually send it to my husband! He asked me to make him a list this year because I'm "impossible to buy for".0

I love this, and I actually feel the same way. My ex-boyfriend and I (together for 6 years) had a rule about no gifts on Christmas, Valentine's Day, or birthdays because we just felt like it was forced affection. When we wanted to give each other something, we did. I just hated the thought of him racking his brain, wandering aimlessly through a shopping mall, trying to come up with something to spend money on that might impress me. It's just so far removed from how I wanted him to feel when he thought about me.
I've got no problem with men who love going all out for their significant others on birthdays and holidays. If it's something a man is really excited about doing, I say go for it. But for me, it was more fun and more memorable when he would call me on a completely random day and say "Cancel whatever weekend plans you had ... I have a surprise for you."0 -
I solved this problem long ago.
After 28 years of marriage, she gets ZILTCH!
Nothing.
And same goes with me.
Anything we really want, we already have, and gifts from others are never what we need or desire, and it's always a disappointment.
We just decided not to play that game with each other.
We get the kids things and send cards to friends, cookies to the church, and that's it.
Oh thank goodness! I was starting to think that my husband and I were the only ones who did this. Anything I want, I buy for myself and anything he needs, he says, "Honey, would you pick me up..." It's working for us.0
