Ugh....I dont know why i am so uncomfortable about posting my weight! Did any one else feel like that? I know it isn't a "have to" or a must, but ya know? I am even like that with my boyfriend that I've been dating for 2 years.....I've never told him my weight hahaha but he's never asked either?! LOL

I think if you do decide to post it it will help free you of that number. I started at 377...that's a 2big mac combos away from 400 (that's the thought in my head) but once I let it out I started losing.0

I was uncomfortable at first too, but I wanted to share my progress.
I've been with my boyfriend a year and a half and I think I've mentioned it once, but guys don't really care lol.0 -
That's the beauty of a place like MFP. It's a place where people who have been ashamed of their weight and appearance in the past can come to and be honest about their struggle without any judgement. I have friends on here of all shapes and sizes. I would say go ahead and post it, I think you'll find it liberating.0

Used to bug me too but after a while I realized it was easier to admit to others and myself and just come out and say it. I was 176 lbs at my heaviest and I am 128 lbs now.0

I used to.. but then I realised once I posted my 'number' I wanted to make it smaller.
I don't want to say 92 again! Except to say "I was 92kg back in September and now I'm -somuchsmaller-"

I never post my weight. 5 lbs from my goal weight and I still don't want to post it0

It's entirely up to you who you disclose that information to. I disclosed my weight to my then boyfriend now hubby within the first 3 months of us being just friends... I knew he was a bigger guy so it was less threatening for me. He has always known my weight and has always been supportive!0

I don't mind telling my weight here, but then again, I am not looking to impress anyone other than myself and my wife, and all the teenagers I speak to and prospective employers....Crud. I'm going to go remove my weight now0 -
They say the first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem. The first time I posted my starting weight, which was 237, I felt like I was finally admitting to the world how much weight I had to lose. It helped motivate me.0

I was reticent about it at first too. It's like somehow admitting to the number was some kind of confession about what a big fat loser I was. Guess what? That number is just a number. It is a simple fact, not part of your identity, and you will be surprised at how freeing it really can be to just say the number. When I started MFP, I weighed 252. My husband of 29 years did not even know that number. I was mortified of it - ashamed of it, but somewhere along the way it dawned on me that the number itself is not what defines me - I get to do that myself, and I am so much more than a number on the scale. Today I am at 203. Painless.0

I am with my friends and my bf who is super fit. But I feel comfortable here. I am 220. I am ashamed. So I am deciding to fix it. You are in control. You can change your weight.0

I don't care at all about posting my starting weight anymore. or my current weight. However I don't like my family knowing my current weight. They think I weigh less than I actually do, lol.0

I never used to want to talk about my weight. Now? I'm not ashamed to say I was once 203lbs and now I am right around 145lbs. I'm also not ashamed to tell you that my weight fluctuates a lot and I can be as low as 142lbs one day and the next day I can be as high as 150lbs.
I tell my boyfriend my weight now - but didn't when I was heavier (I was around 180lbs when he and I met)0 -
When I started out here, I had no problem telling strangers my weight but my husband NO! Now I don't mind..0

When I started I weighed 231. That is a number I never thought I would be at. I'm only 7 lbs down, but it feels amazing. I love 224 now because it is smaller than 231. Posting it is owning it and being honest about it and yourself. It gives you a sense of power. It sucks and feels good at the same time. Either way good luck!!!0

And 247... That's my current number, and I've never hid the first number from anyone but myself. People saw what I looked like. They knew I couldn't climb stairs without sounding like a big bad wolf. They knew I whined about my knees all the time. So they might not have known the exact number, but everyone could see what was important, except for me. I thought by keeping the number a secret, everything else was secret too.
I first weighed 299, though I'm sure that just happened to be the scale that particular day. There's no comfort that it wasn't a 300+ because I was in such deplorable shape,
I started running at 283 pounds, and ran my first 5k at 273 pounds. Those are meaningful numbers, cause they show my life improving.
I ran my fifth 5k two weekends ago at 247 pounds, and I've struggled with that 247 ever since, but you know what? It's still just a stupid number.
So, say it to a friend privately. Then post a feed about it. Then a blog. Then one day you'll finally realize it no longer has a hold of you. YOU are what is important. Not a number.0 -
nope.. if ya dont like your weight then change it!!! work hard, achieve hard, push yourself hard until you want to rave about your weight.. if you lie about it your only cheating yourself!!! you got to the weight you are... no one to blame. so if you are embarrassed then take that feeling and turn it postitive and work towards your goal... if you cant be honest with yourself you will fail!!! and the only one that will fail is you.. harsh but true!!!!0

I also feel so much prouder of myself seeing my actual weight number drop than seeing the weight loss total. 49 sounds like a lot, but going from 250 to 201 feels like so much more.0 -

I hated posting my weight or even acknowledging it until I had lost a significant amount of weight. At that point, I was super proud of what I had accomplished, so I didn't feel so apprehensive about it. You'll be proud about how far you've come someday0

My boyfriend knows my weight because I have at least one panic attack about it a week.
I'm not sure I really want to post here because my BMI is fairly low (but healthy) and I have some very specific goals in terms of body fat %, lean mass etc.0 -
Nope, I refuse as well. I have all sorts of recovered eating issues though, and it actually makes it worse for me to name the number. I panic and...when I panic I turn to food. I only ever look at the number on the scale when I weigh in and log. Besides, scale number does not matter for the most part anyway.0

It's just a number.
And to be brutally honest, unless someone never leaves their house, it's going to be pretty obvious to everyone who sees them what size they are anyway.
Change it if you don't like it, hiding from the reality of it isn't going to help you do that.
You've made a great start by joining here, most people aren't as blunt as me. :bigsmile:0
