Positive statements encourage us and help us cope through distressing
times. We can say these encouraging words to ourselves, and be our own
personal coach. We have all survived some very distressing times, and we
can use those experiences to encourage us through current difficulties.
Examples of coping thoughts might be:
Stop, and breathe, I can do this
This will pass
I can be anxious/angry/sad and still deal with this
I have done this before, and I can do it again
This feels bad, it’s a normal body reaction – it will pass
This feels bad, and feelings are very often wrong
These are just feelings, they will go away
This won’t last forever
Short term pain for long term gain
I can feel bad and still choose to take a new and healthy direction
I don’t need to rush, I can take things slowly
I have survived before, I will survive now
I feel this way because of my past experiences, but I am safe right now
It’s okay to feel this way, it’s a normal reaction
Right now, I am not in danger. Right now, I’m safe
My mind is not always my friend
Thoughts are just thoughts – they’re not necessarily true or factual
This is difficult and uncomfortable, but it’s only temporary
I can use my coping skills and get through this
I can learn from this and it will be easier next time

I like to remind myself, "You're good enough, you're smart enough, and doggone It, people like you." The last part isn't really true, but I tell myself anyway. It helps.0

I have, in the past, repeated mantras over and over in my head to get myself through some tough times. This is a great list of positive statements; thanks for sharing!0

I remember reading somewhere that the average person enters their computer password 10 times a day; with that in mind, I always set my work passwords to motivation/coping phrases...almost like forcing a positive mantra throughout the rough work day.0

Good list.
Oh, and I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and if people don't like me, f* them!0 -

Don't just face the fact, embrace it, and have fun with it.0 -
as some of you may know, i have had a tough time lately and when my therapist emailed it to me, i thought straight away about sharing it. i've printed copies of it to place around my home and in my college folder.0

You should. It's high octane. And you'll never have to endure that anxious, horrible feeling you get when you wonder if people will like you or not, because you just won't care. More and more I find the solution to my social phobia woes is to look people in the eye and think, that's fine if you don't like me, but don't get in my way, or I'll take you down.0 -

As for me, the way I see it, I don't like everyone I meet, so why should I expect everyone to like me?
Especially as I have opinions and ideas and enjoy engaging in discussions instead of just smiling and nodding and being bland. At least the people who do like me, really really do like me, and that's far better than being so dull that nobody could possibly find anything to dislike about me.
To the OP - that really is a great list, thanks.0 -
