Come ON people ...

I can't tell you how many times I've seen "WTG", "Great job", "Good day", etc., in response to someone completing their diary for the day and it's CLEAR that those individuals didn't actually LOOK at the person's diary. Case on point: A friend closed her diary after logging only a banana for the day just to see what would happen and, sure enough, people posted "WTG", "Great job", "Good day!" ... for a banana ... a BANANA ... seriously people?!?!
If a person's diary is not public, it's obvious you can only provide a generic response if you see "under calorie goal" ... and, truth be told, I usually don't respond to a diary post UNLESS the diary is public simply because my "Great job" means virtually nothing in this instance ... but if a person has made their diary public in order to get feedback from others, take a look at it! Make your response count!!
Okay, rant over. lol
Muah to all my MFP friends, you guys ROCK!!!

AMEN!!! I always look at a diary before I post.0

Is your diary public automatically or is it a setting?0
-
LOL, this is funny.0

I don't look at too many food diaries these days unless the people have lost a pretty good amount . I do make an effort to comment on exercise!
BTW - nice Generic - Chopped Onion today, Mac!0 -
WTG!0

You have to set it to "public" under settings ... it is automatically private.0 -
I agree and try (but am not always successful) to write something more lengthy and meaningful.
I do love to see the 'quickies' but there's no doubt that those that check your diary and include some relevant observation from it or expand on their response in some other way generally get my attention and subsequent praise back.0 -
I do not do blind nor obligitory replies. If I can't see your diary I will simply keep it moving. I always look and try to provide words of encouragement or feedback of some nature.
You and I have discussed this before. Thanks for putting it out there!0 -

Setting (up Top) >> Diary settings (Menu) >> Diary Setting (Bottom) >> Public or Friends Only0 -
Great Job!

I agree. I see this happen on some of my friends diaries... or though they stayed under the calorie, they only ate 4 pieces of pizza and chips all day. I even post asking if people think my diary looks good and I don't usually get responses on that..0

Thanks! lol
P.S. You have waaaay too many friends to look at all of their diaries Mr. Popular! ;-P0 -
I end up using a lot of generic answers, but that is because I have over 60 friends and I try to respond to them all and I don't want them all to get the same response, even though I check everyone's diary though every day.0

I never comment on anyones food diary. What they eat is their business whether their diary is public or private. With out knowing their background, medical history or any specifics and the fact that I'm not a doctor/nutritionist/dietician I feel I'm not qualified to make a comment.0
-
Well, on the other hand, if the person NEVER logs their food then I think a day's completed diary deserves a "WTG" or "Good job!", amirite?!0
-
I have a few MFP That I look at their diaries more, some are generic posting trying to reach out to build a connection. Once we do then I will view the diary and give feedback based on what they eat...even asking for recipes and product links..0

Well, you are one of the more active ones. Besides, people in California are friendly, I love California! Thanks for your support!0 -
THANK YOU!! I've even noted on one of MY bad days that this is NOT a way to go day - and STILL had way to gos put there.
WTF?0 -
I comment because I want to encourage people to log their food, closed diary or not.0
-
It's one of the big reasons I haven't "collected a bunch of friends". I want people to push me, not just pat me on the back when I don't deserve it.0

I like the generic "great burn" or something on my exercise when it was the worst workout in weeks and I struggled with it. My friends haven't been like that too much but I've seen it on others. Seriously...great burn cleaning the house? Didn't you do that before?0

In response to dsjohndrow - why comment and check only those that have lost a considerable amount of weight? It looks like you've lost a considerable amount and I would think you would want to assist and support those of us that are new to the game here.
It's a shame that so many find success and then let their success lead to big ego's and lack of support for others. You too, were once a newbie and started with 0 lbs lost etc.
Thank you for the original poster too, I upon guidance and suggestion from another MFP user, discovered my diary was not pulbic so I changed that as I want all the feedback and support I can get.0 -
Once again I repeat myself. I always had an open diary until everyone was criticizing my calorie intake which was based on several endocrinologists orders. No one bothered to look at my profile. I am sorry, buy unless you are a doctor I do not think you should really criticize until someone asks. It is like someone approaching you and saying "You need to lose weight" and you didn't not ask. I am sorry to repost this it just upsets me when people criticize and dont support others.0

Well said!!! TY0 -
I don't comment on diary completions...because I don't look at their diaries.0

I just wanted to say that I do not criticize my friends' diaries ... I provide feedback. My friend's list is not out of control for this very reason ... I get to know my friends ... I continually check their profiles ... I know which friends are are "watching their carbs", those that are trying to lose weight, those who are trying to gain weight, etc. The whole point of MFP is to find people who are there to support you ... to pick you up when you are down ... to say "job well done" when you succeed. I keep my friends to a minimum so I CAN know them.
I probably didn't make that too clear in my original post, but those who are currently my friends know this about me ... because they know me.
No offense was meant, I assure you.0 -
I dont comment unless I can view them first. Did that one time and the girl was starving herself...0

Dear Diary...0

Hmmm I think I might have seen a few people post about this before.0

People start from where they are. What is good for them might be an atrocity for you or me. Everyone has their own beliefs of what makes a good diet and a good workout. Some are here simply to JUST lose weight and eat less. I could probably save more of my own time if I just commented on one person per day thoroughly scouring everything they have done and analyzing their success based on my own beliefs and making suggestions or comments that they may or may not appreciate. I choose not to do that. If that makes me a bad friend, then I'm a bad friend. If someone is here and trying I say give them a pat on the back. If they are here to play games and it makes them feel better to catch sloppy friends such as myself then you got me! I am ashamed now. I'll go and wait for everyone to unfriend me so I can cry my eyes out. Boo hoo.0
