Dieting and Indigestion/Gallbladder issues

Just a quick question:
Has anyone noticed an increase in indigestion since they have been dieting? You would think it would get better since I've cut out all of the fatty, greasy, fried foods. It's still the same. Today I am hurting in my upper abdomen, no relief in site and I take Nexium on a daily basis. I wonder if it's not a gall bladder issue. Any suggestions?

I its more then likely your gallbladder, I was having the same issues but certain foods would trigger really bad pain attacks. I had it removed about 2 months ago.. feel sooo much better now. Check it out though...0

I had an upper endoscopy done in August 2008 when I was having the same type of pain only milder, and they said everything looked fine. Would they not have found gallstones then, if that's what the problem was?0 -
gallstones are usually found via an ultrasound.
good luck!0 -
If it is your gallbladder the pain would be focused more on your upper right side. And, it would be triggered primarily when you eat fattier foods (maybe things that you used to eat just fine, but now your body is used to getting healthier fuel so the old normal foods send it into a bit of shock). Hope this helps. And if still in doubt you should request that they do an ultrasound, as that is generally how they will find gallstones.0

I'm not a doctor, but if your doctor thought it was important enough to test when the pain was less, then wouldn't it be a good idea to get it re-checked when it's worse?0
-
The endoscopy is generally to check for damage to the esophagus, generally from acid reflux. That was what they thought I had, until they did the endoscopy and found that my esophagus was clear. Then they finally did an ultrasound and found large stones in my gallbladder. I had it removed, and have had few problems since!0

I wanted to have the endoscopy done because I was having really bad acid reflux at the time. Bad enough where I would regurgitate my food. (Sorry TMI). I failed to mention that when they didn't find anything via endoscopy, they DID an ultrasound the next day, and said everything looked okay. I just don't understand why I'm still hurting to this day, even though I've been on medicine.0 -
I had an upper endoscopy, too, and that won't see gallbladder issues. Are you having pain during/after eating? That is a sign of gallbladder problems. I never knew that, and thought it was just my stomach. My pain wasn't on one side or the other. It was just there. I would go to the doc and ask about it, because you don't want to let it go too far in case it is! because I ended up in the emergency room with the worst pain I'd ever felt in my life and was admitted right then and there and had surgery a few hours later, because it was full of stones and really really badly infected!! NO FUN0

I have pain during AND after eating. Like right now, I feel hungry, but don't feel like eating because I'm hurting so bad.0 -

If I were you, I'd go back and ask them to look again. It could be something else, but it also sounds a lot like gallbladder!0 -

Is your pain constant right now? When mine got really bad I had constant stomach pains that were so bad there was no comfortable position, and I couldn't eat because I felt really nauseous.0 -

It was constant yesterday. Got a little better during the evening and it's been constant ever since I woke up this morning. I'm hurting sooo bad.0 -
Also forgot to mention, at one time, I was on 2 Zantac and 2 Prevacid a day. That was under a doctor's supervision.0

If it's hurting that bad, I would go to the doctor. Actually, I would go to the ER, but that's my opinion after what happened to me! My pain started out not being constant, but then the day after that it was and I dealt with it for 2 1/2 days because I thought if I went to the doctor they would tell me it was gas or something! So then I finally decided I couldn't stand it anymore and I am so glad we chose the ER over the doctor!!0 -

I'm like you, I don't want to feel like an idiot, when I go to the ER and they say they can't find anything wrong and it's gas. I may try and wait it out. If it gets much worse or I actually do start throwing up, then I will go to the ER.0 -

Seriously, you may want to consider going to one of the two. Because that was the worst 2 1/2 days of my life! and if it is your gallbladder, if you wait too long the stones can actually leave your gallbladder and get into other organs and cause many other BAD problems!! and if it's infected, you'll have to have a drain coming out of your side (which SUCKS, especially when they take it out!!) I never threw up until I was in teh ER and they gave me morphine and the anti-nausea stuff at once...but I felt much better after!* I wouldn't wait too long if I were you...
*mostly due to meds..lol0 -

Thanks. Right now, I feel like crap. All I had for lunch was a small bag of sun chips out of the vending machine. My stomach is still hurting really bad. It hasn't eased up a bit.0 -
Sounds like your gallbladder to me. I had an ultrasound but I didn't have gallstones. I had to have another test where they tested to see how much my gallbladder was functioning, turns out it wasn't functioning right and that was causing the pain, I had surgery to have mine out May 2004 and I have been fine ever since.0

I'm too lazy to read everything so I apologize if this has already been said. When I was diagnosed with a sick gallbladder and was waiting for surgery to get it done they told me to stay away from leafy green vegetables in addition to fatty, greasy foods as this can also upset the gallbladder. Keep a more detailed journal of what you eat, what time you eat it and what time you get pains for about a week and take it to your Dr. Hope you feel better!!! :flowerforyou:0

I don't know if this may help but a co-worker of mine had some of the same issues and went to her doctor and it ended up being her gallbladder. Once she went to see a surgeon he told her that her weight loss was the cause of her gallbladder going crazy.0

I had what felt like someone standing on my chest about 14 yrs ago and I took all kinds of aniacids ended up being stones. Nothing I did made the pain go away. But Im the better that my gal bladder is out. Now granted I can only eat certain things otherwise..im in the bathroom for a good long time wishing id just stuck to something better. Since eating clean and healthy I have very little upset stomach since I had my gall bladder taken out. It does change your life. Makes you more aware of what your body likes and doesnt like.
I currently take acidophlous which aids in digestion health. I got in wafers from GNC. Very tasty and I take it twice a day. Might look into it as its a nice addition to your daily suppliements.
Cheers

That sounds like me. I had an ultrasound and they couldn't find anything wrong with it or my pancreas. Thank God. But when you continue to hurt, you wonder what's wrong with you. Sometimes I wonder if it's all in my head. Maybe it's NOT functioning properly and that's what's causing the pain. I don't want to have surgery, but if it IS my gallbladder and would make me feel better, I would be willing to go through with it.
Thanks to everyone for all of your comments and advice. I will take them all into consideration.0 -
I had gallbladder issues during my first pregnancy they got worse right after i had my baby. I hurt all the time and then it would go away. I went to the Dr. a few times and they couldn't find anything wrong with me. My eyes were yellow and my urine was a dark brown. Finally, they figured out I had gallstones and set my surgery date. A few days later I had a bad attack and I could not take the pain anymore. I could not keep anything down including my pain pills. I went to the ER and was admitted. I stone left the gallbladder and was stuck in my pancreas. My "who knows what" levels were really high and had to wait a whole week in the hospital for them to go down. I sat there with pain and NOTHING to eat or drink.. .not even ice chips. Anything that would go in me would cause my system to start working so my levels would take longer to go back down (safe enough for surgery) FINALLY they got them down (not as much as they wanted) so they went ahead with the surgery. I felt SO MUCH BETTER immediately after surgery. I highly suggest you go to the ER and get checked out... if they say it's nothing get another opinion. It's no fun, but you will fell a lot better once you get treated/surgery.
Hope you get to the bottom of this and feel better soon! :flowerforyou:0 -
I had my first child 25 years ago and ever since then I have had acid reflux and this terrible pain, it feel like someone is squeezing the life out of me right around my rib cage. This comes and goes and it's usually like labor pains, it last for about 5-10 mins and goes away but comes back 3 or 4 times or all day long. No one could ever figure out what was wrong with me because by the time I would get to a doctor the paid would be gone. I had my gallbladder removed about 10 years ago but stil have that awful pain. I finaly found a doctor that told me it was my intestines contracting and he prescribed a pain killer that I just put under my tongue when I feel the pain coming on. Works great!!!!
Is this the kind of pain you are feeling? When it gets bad for me I have to stand straight up, can't sit or lie down, sometimes if it hits while I'm driving I have to pull over it gets that bad. If they don't find anything else wrong with you, you might ask about this.
Hope you feel better soon

Sorry to hear about your pain Memaw.
The pain I have is a dull aching pain right under my breastbone in the middle of my rib cage. I'm feeling better today, but those kind of days come and go. That's why I wonder if it's gall bladder "attacks." My pain is not really a squeezing pain. It feels raw in there.0
