  • Red apples are the healthiest I think - I have braeburn apples or gala .. both taste exactly the same virtually :)

I'm with the above post, I always choose Royal Gala or Braeburn which come circa 50 calories per 100grams

But in theory, shouldn't the less sweet apples be fewer in calories? Such as a Golden Delicious

I'm kinda thinking that they would be negligibly different nutrition wise. There might be small differences, but in the grand scheme of things, nothing to write home about. I choose either what tastes better or what's cheaper.

I'm not big on green apples or the basic red ones, but I usually get Gala, Braeburn, Honeycrisp, or Pink Lady! :)

They're all pretty much the same, just different tastes. My favorites are Fuji. Good to eat plain and fantastic in pie.

I used to use Macs exclusively for pie, but couldn't find any at Christmas, so I used Fuji because it's what I had and they made a fantastic pie!

Everyone says that, so I tried them this year and was disappointed. They were good, but not as great as people say. Then I heard Pink Lady is an awesome apple and tried those. Eh.

    I still prefer the Fuji.

Everyone always talks about the Honeycrisp but the big Fugi is SOOOO much better. Don't get the tiny ones, get the big ones!

    RML_16 and I wouldn't steer you wrong!

Once again: Stay AWAY.... FAR AWAY from Grannie Smith! She is a WITCH!!! :)

I love apples....pink lady and honey crisp top the list.

Make sure to get organic though. Apples top the list for most pesticides.

recently I got some apples from the north ga mountians and they were red delicious, when i had those i counted them as 1 apple. After I ran out i began buying some from walmart, at first i counted them as a whole apple but then started thinking about the size difference. The apples at walmart are smaller than a petit persons fist, the ones from the ng mountians were about 2 of the walmart apples put together, do you think its ok that I count these apples as half an apple??? sorry to intrude on the post but it was about apples so i thought it would be ok :)

No I think the really big ones you had are almost like 2 apples.

Depends on the calories of the entry you used actually. If the really big ones were logged as like 80, then you were underestimating, that's for a smaller one.

    From personal observation...
If you don't think honeycrisp are the best around make sure you try one that is mostly red...the more red the better!

I've eaten a LOT of honeycrisps from different stores, some organic, some not, most very red. None of them were anything all that special (IMO). If you love them, that's great. Eat and enjoy. But I'm not impressed with them and choose to eat the apples I like the most.

Not everyone is going to agree on which apple is best.

Surly green apples must be healthier than red ones... just like brown eggs are better than white
