Hi there! this is my first post ever on MFP. I too love oatmeal. I'll measure 1/2 cup into a tupperware along with some cinnamon, a pinch of salt and a teaspoon of brown sugar. When I get to work, I add water and microwave it at 50% power for 1 1/2 minutes. Instant hot breakfast! I sometimes add a handful of fresh blueberries, a sliced banana, chopped up dates... yummy.0

sounds yum... i microwave mine first, then add the toppings. should i be heating them up all together?0

I eat oatmeal like everyday too! Haha,
These are my two favorite ways to make it.
1 tbs. brown sugar.
1/4 cup dried cranberries.
1 tbs. brown sugar.
1 tbs. white chocolate carmel coffee creamer.
^^ sounds weird, but it honestly tastes like you're eating a candy bar!<30 -
and it doesn't really matter what way you do it.
sometimes when you do add the items, then microwave. it loses it's flavor.0 -
Things I add in oatmeal (ofcourse not everything every time, but lot's of it goes well together): Jam, cottage cheese, almond butter, butter, cinnamon, brown sugar, milk, yogurt (usually vanilla), banana, nuts (almonds mostly), berries, apples .. Or sometimes just plain oatmeal.0

Usually I make the oatmeal first and then add things.0 -
I love it sweet, but I also recently started eating it with savory things! This morning I made it with mushrooms garlic and salt. It was to die for!0

My DH and I eat it every weekday morning - we put apples, nutmeg and maple syrup. I also like it with craisins, pecans & maple syrup. If you haven't tried steel cut oats I heartily recommend them. Take longer to cook but really tasty. You can make a big batch over the weekend and then microwave during the week.0

Steel cut oats are the way to go. The night before I boil 6 cups of water, then add 1.5 cups of dry steel cut oats. Let it return to a boil and then cook for a minute or two. Remove from heat and slap a lid on the pan. Then I let it sit on the back of the stove until the next morning. When I get up, they are perfect. Microwave for a minute or two to warm them up. We put the leftovers in the fridge for the next day. A batch like that lasts my wife and I 2-3 days.
My favorite toppers (not all at once): bananas, blueberries, dried cherries, brown sugar, peanut butter, chocolate chips, real maple syrup, molasses, chopped pecans, chopped walnuts, apples, honey, jam, cinnamon.
For savory I cook the oatmeal in chicken broth and then I might add some chopped roasted chicken breast and/or poached eggs.0 -

I love oatmeal, but don't always have time to fix it getting everyone out of the house on time. I found a baked oatmeal recipe on Pinterest that I modified and tried last weekend, and I loved it. I ate on that all week, I could heat it up in a bowl with a little milk if I was home with time, or eat it on the run since it is kind of cake-like. It had bananas, strawberries, pecans and semi-sweet chocolate chips (something I thought I wouldn't like, but how stupid was that). I am going to make some this week with bananas, blueberries and chocolate chips. Oh, and it had Chinese 5 spice, which I cut to 1/4 tsp. It gave it a really interesting flavor.0

Apple Pie Oatmeal. I also add some Craisins to it too for a different texture:bigsmile: . It makes a lot and keeps me full til lunch.

I like to put a little fat free french vanilla coffee creamer on mine..omg so good!
I like the steel cut too, but the calories are really high..I understand its good for me though.
//////not like fake creamer..lol:blushing:0 -
I love oatmeal and I have it every morning. If I'm making it fast in the microwave, I love it with a tablespoon of simply fruit: blueberry and a 1/4 cup of raisins. However, I also really enjoy slow cooker oatmeal. Steel cut oats with apples, cinnamon, vanilla extract, brown sugar, and walnuts. Amazing!0

Almond Joy Oatmeal
Serves 2
Ingredients:
1 cup steel cut oats
2 cups flaxmilk or other non-dairy milk
1 teaspoon coconut oil
2 tablespoons cacao chips
1/2 cup organic shaved coconut
1/2 cup raw almonds, chopped
Directions:
In a medium bowl, combine oats and milk together. Refrigerate overnight.
Transfer oatmeal to a saucepan and heat, stirring, until heated through.
Stir in coconut oil, cocoa nibs, and shaved coconut.
Divide mixture among 2 bowls and top with almonds and extra milk, if desired.
Yep. Tastes just like an Almond Joy. When I make it I omit the coconut oil. Cuts down on added fats. This is really good oatmeal, and I know oatmeal.
I could also talk about my dark chocolate/peanut butter oatmeal...but I'll save that one for another time.0 -
unsweetened applesauce for the liquid, (add a bit of water if needed) apple pie spice, walnuts0
-
banana and a little bit of coconut with cinnamon. Sometimes some almonds or pecans. SOOOO delicious.
Also, unsweetened applesauce with cinnamon.
I also put 1/3 cup of pure pumpkin in with the oatmeal and some pumpkin pie spice. SO delish.0 -
I love adding a sliced banana, cinnamon and chopped walnuts to my oatmeal. Sometimes I slice up an apple and add cinnamon and sliced almonds I love sweetness and crunch in my oatmeal.0
-
If i'm not having eggs then I'm having oatmeal. I usually put precooked "apple smush" I make baking apples in the oven or honey.0
-
Mix some with eggs and fry in just a teaspoon full of oil - delicious0
-
I really love cottage cheese in my oatmeal. Amps up the protein too! I almost always pair that with a fruit - bananas and blueberries are my favorite. One packet of truvia makes it plenty sweet for me.0
-
I add protien powder to mine most of the time0
