Always find it difficult myself to work out what an 'ideal' weight/size would be. I'm 5'8" and now a comfortable size 10 and weigh 149 lbs - down from a size 18 (ish) and 16st. I am quite toned - I get my %age body fat checked monthly and its around 22%. You may want to have a look at Davina McCall - she's 5'7" and, according to the papers yesterday, weighs 9st 10lbs.0

I'm 5'8 and 150lbs size 12.
I was size 10 at like 135lbs.0 -

A US 8 is a UK 100 -

A US 8 is a UK 10
I thought us sizes were 2 sizes smaller so a US 8 would be a UK 12?0 -
There doesn't seem to be universal agreement on whether US sizes are different by 1 or 2 sizes, I've seen both!
I'm around-about 215lb (98kg), more at this time of the month (grrr), and a UK size 20. My height seems to vary depending on who's measuring- somewhere around 5'7.5 to 5'8. It seems to take me over a stone of weight loss to drop 1 dress size!0 -
im 5ft 9 and a half, currently 231 pounds, size 16/18, aiming for 172, hoping for a river island 14, which is actually a 12
oh, and USA sizinf is 2 different. i own clothes from bluenavy (like usa primark)0 -
Hey, I'm 5'9.5'' and come in at 227 currently, was an 18/20 now more like an 18 (UK sizes). Back before I piled on the weight I was about 160lb and came in at a 10/12 bottom and 12/14 top (top heavy - could be worse!!) I was pretty fit and what size I was depended on whether I could get my muscley legs in, rather than my hips/waist.0

Hey Girl!! I am 5'7 was a size 20 (I weighed 245) before I lost weight. I was able to fit in a size 10 when I got down to about 170lbs. At about 160 my 10s were big I was just starting to fit into an 8. I am actually really disappointed in myself because over the past two years I have manged to pack most of the weight back on, now I am back up to 220 and a somewhere between a 12-14 depending on the jeans. I really want to get back down, so just this week I have really started a m. so I am looking forward to all the cute size 10 summer clothes I have On a side note I didn't really buy any new clothes as I was going down in sizes Plato's Closet had awesome second hand name brand clothes that I made my way through. I remember the first time I got in a size 14 while at the mall shopping at American Eagle (that was the first clothes I bought) I started crying....I hadn't been a size 14 since my freshman year of high school. I have some pics on here of me at my biggest 250 at my smallest about 160 and now 220. Anyhow hope this helps and Good luck!!0

I'm 5' 7. Started at 248 (17 stone 10) and UK size 20/22. Currently weigh 170 and am a UK 14 with one or two UK12 bits (mostly from marks & Spencer per una).
My goal was 136 (9 stone 10) hopefully size 10 but as I'm an hourglass shape this now appears too low so am aiming for 147 (10 stone 7) and a UK size 12.
Good luck x0 -
Looked up online size conversion charts and US is one size smaller than UK, so US 2 = UK 4, etc.
I am just under 5'8" and started at 262 lbs and was a US size 20/XXL. I am now down to 196 and am a US 12/L in pants and US 10/M in tops. I am bottom heavy and my goal is to be 170 lbs and a US size 8/100 -
5'8 and a 12 @ 151lbs0

Hi
I'm 5ft 7" and my starting weight about 3-4 weeks ago was 249lbs and I am now 236lb
Started at a UK size 20 and I am now a UK 18/20
4 years ago I was a UK size 22/24/26 weight I have no idea, but did drop to 196lb 2 years ago which put me at a UK size 16/18 this is my aim at the moment if I can get down to about 180lb im hoping that it will put me at a UK16 if I can get smaller fab if not i'm happy with that!0 -
Great thread! Sometimes it's nice to know what clothes size I'll be buying next time I go out shopping. I haven't fit into a pair of Penneys (Primark to you) trousers in years, it'd be great to be able to fit into a pair of skinny jeans from there at some stage  Of course, all the nice ones that I see now won't exist then :sad:0

Hey I'm 5ft 7 and am currently in a 18-20 looking to get down to whatever I end up being lol, I have broad shoulders and a fairly large chest so I dont think a 10 would be an option for me but I want to get down to about 9/10 stone depending how I look. I think your probably looking at about a 80-100lb loss.
Feel free to add me any UK ladies0 -
Thanks everyone for the info, it really is interesting!! So any variables but it gives some good short and long term goals to work towards!

I'm 5'7'' and now 139lbs and still can't get into a size 12... my Mum would say it's my childbearing hips...0

Hi Kat,
I weigh 183lbs and wear size 12 and 14 clothes, in uk that would be 16/18, wNt to get down to 145 thinking that old put me in size 10 here in us.0 -
Uk sizes much to my dismay are 2 sizes bigger than us, so a 12 in s s 16 in uk, I moved to the USA in 1981 and I think they used to be ny he size bigger then! Not sure when it changed but it did0
