lots of questions: how long did it take you to get it??? what weight were you at and what are you at now? what size were you and what size are you now?
ive gone from like a 14 to a 6 and i STILL dont have a space!!! GRRRRRR!
i know you cant spot reduce fat otherwise id sit there and do inner thigh work for hours. what cardio do you do???

My Ex-husband (note 'EX') was of the opinion that any woman who did not have space between her thighs was fat! I don't believe this to be true at all... sadly, we are all led to believe (by ppl like him) that women have to fit a certain mould but I think some women just aren't made that way and we can only be the best we can be. Your profile pic looks pretty good though so while you may still strive for that perfect picture in your mind, be proud of yourself and how far you've come - no easy feat for sure!0

Some people don't have the body shape to allow for the space between thighs. Both of my instructors at the gym have very low body fat % and are in amazing shape. Neither of them have a space between their thighs.0

I've had it at 127 and below (I'm 5'6.) From what I've heard from other people this is kind of a high weight to have one, though; I think it's just because I have wide hips.0

I'm 5'7, around 120lbs and last time I checked, had a body fat % of around 18, and I don't have a space. It's just the way I'm built and the spacing of my hips etc; not everyone will have one even at a very low weight.0

um, I'm pretty sure it's all about genetics and your pelvic bone structure/hip placement. women without a thigh gap are just as beautiful as women with a thigh gap.0

This has more to do with how your legs are set more than the fat on them, a lot of people (even at a size 2) would not have a gap due to the way their legs and hip joint meets. So don't focus on this or make it your goal as your body may not allow you to get to that even with little to no body fat.0

I have NEVER had a space between my thighs, even when I was toned and when I was below healthy weight. I guess some people just aren't built that way. I've learned to focus on other, err... "assets". Good luck! :bigsmile:0

i just lookd at your profile, you are the same height as me - i am currently 150 and I have to say damn i hope i look like you after i lose a few more pounds, you look fantastic! who needs a thigh gap when you have your body ???0

Unless you become ridiculously thin (emaciated) not everyone will get this due to build. Could really depend on your hip/pelvis thigh ratio. If you ahve wide hips and normal thighs you may get the gap, normal width hips normal thighs, probably not!
Don't stress it! You'll look great without it! Boys don;t really all dig it anyway!0 -
I believe its a genetic thing. At my lowest weight 85lbs (4'11" ) I didnt have it. My mom is 120lbs (5'7") and she also cares some weight around her butt and thighs as I do and doesn't have it. Sorry about your luck. Keep calm and chive on!0

I do, but I'm quite sick at the moment and I don't think anyone who's trying to be healthy should use me as an example.
I'm not really that thin for someone with an eating disorder but I do have disproportionately large hips, which I think is why it happens. It's more about how your bones are than a particular weight or size.0 -

i guess i didnt really think of that! my lower body is big, thighs and quads are massive from squats lunges and playing hockey...i saw a trainer posta picture of her thighs and said IT CAN BE DONE and i was like well uuuuhhh why dont it have it haha!!! im at like 148 and id assume around 20-23 % body fat. my goal is 16.5-18,5 and id be happy!!!0

you mean that tiny triangle right at the top!? or do you mean if you stand with your legs together there's a space above the knees. I think i have two tiny thigh spaces then........ but what the f*&^? This thigh gap thing seems to be an American focus. I've never heard it mentioned before coming on MFP.0

I've got it and it is totally the shape of my legs and how they connect in the socket- my hips aren't wide either. I didn't do anything and even when I was fixing to give birth and at my highest weight I had it. I have my Dad to thank- that is how his body is too.

There was another thread on this a while back(may want to search for it) and I didn't understand the obsession then and I don't understand it now.
I don't have a thigh gap nor do I ever plan to have one.. but I know that I look amazing without one, and it's not a defining factor for me.0 -

I WAS THINKING THE SAME THING.... as I was looking in the mirror the other day.... it was one of my main goals! I went from a size 16 to a 6.... I don't have it I think I am going to get Jillian's buns and thighs.. maybe that will help?!?! I do run.... grr..
btw I am 5'4 and around 135ish0 -
working on getting mine back! I don't expect to have a space when I am standing, but I often sit with my knees together and feet in the chair or on the couch. One night after months of working out diligently and losing 40 lbs, body fat around 22%, I looked and noticed a space between my thighs! It was so surprising that I passed my hand thru the space several times just to see if it was real, stood up and sat back down to see if it was STILL there, and it was! I remember laughing out loud and saying to myself, WOW, my thighs are actually leaner! I will never have stick legs, thank goodness, but I got where I wanted to be. Now working to get back to that place, but how I let myself get off track is another story...0

I am 5'5" 138 and have a space between my thighs but I have wide hips. I would much rather have a lower body fat % than a space. You look great so who cares about a space.0

It really depends on bone structure. I'm just under 5'7" tall and weigh 140 lbs, and I have a gap between my thighs, which I attribute to my hips which are very wide.0

Why are people so worried about this? I often question what is in the SPACE between the ears when we worry about things like this that don't really matter when we are already healthy and look great!0

i have had it at 122 and below. i am 129 now and don't have it- yet. my hips are wide but my lower body is also pretty big from heavy squats and sprinting etc. when i finally got to where i had a space between my thighs- everyone was telling me that i looked to thin, even though i was pretty muscular...i guess you can't win em all. oh and i am 5'6" for reference purposes.0

i think that it also depends on how wide hips are genetically. if a persons bone structure sets them at wide hips and they are thin, they're likely to have a space. if a persons hips are narrow, regardless of thin legs, there may be no space.0

I remember when I was quite young watching an episode of Will and Grace where they're at a wedding and Jack says something like "and now it's time for everyone to hit the dancefloor, except for those of you whose thighs rub together when you walk, there'll be cake for you in a minute."
It had never ever occured to me that people's thighs didn't rub together at least a little bit before that, and because I was quite young (perhaps about 10 or 12) at the time it made a huge impression on me and for years I thought I was a fat freak for not having a gap, even when I was at a healthy weight!
Now I actually find myself not liking the look of a gap, it's definitely not something I strive to achieve now! I think it's because I now associate it with underweight models though as it's the only time I've really seen anyone with a gap and so to me it seems unhealthy, even though I know as others have said it is entirely dependent on your bone structure. I think for a lot of people though it is very difficult to achieve at a healthy weight.0 -
I got it when I started lifting heavy, especially deadlifts (my hammies are cut) and squats. When I was 102 pounds but skinny fat I didn't have it, now I do at 110. it really comes down to a lowered body fat %.0

I guess it depends on what you mean by thigh gap.
I'm size 6, sometimes 4 and when I stand normally there's space between my thighs. It's not large, but my legs don't rub together when I walk anymore. It started to appear when I was 8 shifting to 6. I've had four kids so my hip/pelvic bones have shifted. I think if I'd not had kids I wouldn't have a gap at this stage.
If you mean the gap that appears because a woman's thighs are the same diameter as her calves, then I'd say I'm not at that stage and will never be. I've had to do a lot of running to get my thighs in shape and they have too much muscle on them to ever be pencil-thin. But I'm okay with that-I prefer a thicker thigh for my body shape.0 -
I'd probably have a space between my thighs if I didn't have this pile of "junk" there instead.0
