Well done with the BF % lowering.

Can I ask how did you do this? How many cals were you eating - what were you eating?

    Thanks so much!

Eating around 1300-1500 cals per day. Its very little for me, because I spend around 3500 per day.
It is really only for short term dieting, as its super unhealthy to eat like this. This week I am back on 2000cal diet, with about 1500cal/day deficit.

I make sure to eat enough protein and potassium. I still miss alot of other nutrients.

I am done with my 1 month cut. Right now ill take it at around 1000-1500cal deficit per day.

I dont lose any muscle at all, because I lift very heavy.

I only joined MFP 1 week ago, but you can see my diary its available to public viewing
    http://www.myfitnesspal.com/food/diary/yevgheniy

Also i have additional information on my MFP blog
    http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/yevgheniy

I am sub 20% bodyfat, which means it is very hard for me to lose fat, than individuals with like 40% bodyfat.
yet i still lost at least 13lb of pure fat in 1 month.

Wanted to prove to everyone there is no "starvation mode"

I eat 2 times per day. I skip breakfast.
    I eat fast food.
    I eat at night.

    I'm doing the same mate.

Eating between 1200-1500 per day. Probably do between 500-1000 exercise cals on top of usual activity.

Losing 1kg per week so far. Need to measure my BF but probably on 25% down from 30% at start of the year.

I am Intermitted Fasting. Not eating breakfast, having a protein shake and some diary at lunch, workout in evening then a 1000 calorie clean meal (no carbs / mostly protein) in the evening.

    All good.

I think the important part is that you lifted every day, if you hadn't the weightloss would have been muscle and not fat, so for anyone not lifting the body is going to hold onto fat and eat up muscle....which I guess is what people call starvation mode???
  • Nice to see this worked for you....right now I am trying to bust through a 6+ month plateu...only have lost the 20 pds of babyweight since my daughter was born 16 months ago and am sitting at 24ish% bf and my body won't seem to give it up, even with a 1-2 pd a week deficiet. i have officially decided I needed to do something drastic as a last ditch effort before I go to maintance. I am doing this huge deficiet too. I try to get my calories in but kill the cardio more than 2 hours a day. I know I might lose some muscle but at this point I have preseved since I started dieting and losing a bit in the process of rekick-starting is not a big concern for me. I do not feel tired or drained at all, which is suprising because I gave up caffine too. I have to plan out my day pretty strictly, since my husband is away for the next 5 weeks, but I get to the gym to lift in the morning (and my strength has increased too), hit it again at night to do cardio for an hour, do whatever cardio the baby lets me get with her nap, and do another hour before bed. Is it a bit extreame? Probably...but the only other options are go to maintance or bulk and I have no interest in bulking due to metabolic disease and going to maintance is not looking like a good option either, I would feel like I gave up too soon. I decided to not wear my jeans for the next 5 weeks and only wear my sweat pants and tank tops all day, since I workout all day anyway, and than hopefully when I put them on in a few weeks they will fit differently. I know it isn't the healthiest approach but my dietician has assured me that a few weeks of working out like crazy but eating appropriately will not do much harm, more than possibly losing some mass and feeling tired. I know a lady who crash dieted just like this for 10 weeks for a last minute show and lost 30 pounds. She didn't gain the weight back, is maintaning well, and is happy that she took the hard but short lived road. Is there a reason this is looked down upon so much?

People call starvation mode when your body's metabolism slows down by 100%. which is bull****.
People who lose weight w/o excercise lose 75% fat, 25% muscle.

You can gain strength while losing weight. Not uncommon. But to say you lost no muscle mass would be untrue. Even the BEST bodybuilders in the world lose muscle mass when they "cut".
As for gaining size in the arms, that happens whenever anyone part takes in a weight lifting program as a newbie.

It's important to ensure that correct information is given so that others don't try it just on hearsay.

I know that Sub 1500calorie diet will make anyone hungry.
My wife is having trouble losing weight because to lose as much as me she would need to eat 600calories per day, which is impossible and i will not let her eat so little.

by the way each lbs of muscle you get is an extra passive 50calorie/day
lets say i gained 20lbs of muscle over the years through weight lifting.
    my BMR increased by 1000cal/day.

Also doing 3sets of heavy lifting increases your BMR.(dont know by how much), for 36hours.

I am very proud of you girls who manage to diet on such a low calories for long time. I wouldnt be able to do it.

You can gain muscle on 500calorie deficit no problem. Even endomorphs can do it i think.

EDIT: Newbie gains definately help to shape your body. Then it becomes very slow to gain muscle.
Treat your muscle with respect everyone:) dont do deficit dieting for too long.
make sure u eat enough protein

No broscience here. I deal in SCIENTIFIC PEER REVIEWED STUDIES. Realize that to gain muscle you are gaining weight. While there are a few exceptions (athlete returning to lifting after a long layoff, obese/very overweight person new to lifting, newbie who has NEVER trained with weights before) it's practically impossible to gain muscle while on calorie deficit.
To gain muscle is to gain weight and it's NEVER just pure muscle. Fat will come along with it.

    2. How do you explain peer reviewed testosterone study of 17lbs muscle gain and 5lbs fat loss at the same time without even excercise? Shows human body can do it.
    3. What about all the people who are losing fat and have bigger muscles and stronger.

    4. You said I still lost some muscle, let me tell you If you gain strenght, you gain muscle at the very minimum. Usualy strenght = muscle.
    5. But more strenght is definately not muscle loss.

I gained muscle while lost fat. It reflects on my bench press and inch measurements of arm + my weight and BF%

he said it is impossible to gain muscle on deficit. WHICH IS WRONG, proved by peer reviewed study.

Dont want to argue anymore. I asked him to remove credentials because it makes people believe him so much, yet science disagrees with his own science.

actually you can gain strength and lose muscle if you are conditioning the muscle you do have. Building muscle without a caloric surplus is like trying to building a wood framed house without lumber, you can't do it.

again there are a few exceptions and one would be if you are on 'roids.

OP how are you having your BF% tested, and what % are you now vs. when you started?
What did you weigh then vs. now?

FYI your biceps can appear to be bigger due to the muscles retaining water due to strength training, so that size is probably not muscle, it is water in the muscles.

from your blog ''I have around 1500-2000 daily calorie deficit everyday, I eat 1500~ and i spend around 3500.

So far I lost 16lbs of fat in 1 month (jan 17 to feb 17), while gaining 1-2 extra reps on my bench press. So now I am planning to increase weight to bring it back to 8 reps.

I found out I am losing 1lbs of pure fat per 2 days with this 2000 deficit diet accompanied by weight lifting''

Impossible mate, you would pass out from lack of energy with the excercise programme combined with eating only 1500cals you say your doing because I know I would. lets see some progress pics then of you the month before.

Bump... This is funny... and I think you should have put a big disclaimer in your original post as most people don't seem to read the whole thread.

My BMR is only around 1800 calories a day and I burn around 1,500-3,000 calories a week with exercise. Eatting a 2,000 calorie deficit would never work for me. Your original post does not apply to everyone and can be a little misleading if people don't read the additional info you provided later (specifically that you are aware this method should only be done short-term otherwise it can be unhealthy). Other than that, congrats on the success.

Not surprised at all, you are using wooden frame arguments and ad hominem and attacking my personal success, because you cannot refute my original argument which is based purely on facts.

The human body is using fat as fuel and storing fat at the same time, throughout the day, all day. As long as you are in a caloric deficit at the end of the day, you will lose weight.
However you can still workout and tell your body that it needs more muscle, while giving it sufficient nurrients and build muscle tissue while being on a caloric deficit.

The end rresult is, (as many other people on bodybuilding.com have done), fat loss and simultaneous muscle gain.

This is not up for debate, this is a fact, based on scientific studies that you claim to base your "ideas" on.
Arguing with the truth and flashing your lame certificates around does not make you a prophet brah.

Also want to add a point.

They did a study where people starved for 3 days
    0 calorie consumption, only water

And there was no muscle breakdown until the 4th day.
So you definately will not have any muscle loss on 1500 cal
And this is based on a peer reviewed scientific study.

I see MFP has a very knowledgeable community.

OP... as someone who is relatively new to all this, how do you measure muscle gain? Weight gain/loss is easy (scale), fat gain/loss is fairly easy (calipers), but I struggle to measure muscle gain.

Lol, yes these people were INJECTED with testosterone. I'm sure that many here would choose to do that while dieting.
    3. What about all the people who are losing fat and have bigger muscles and stronger.
Already stated that obese/very overweight people that apply resistance training are an exception. And getting stronger is more a neurological effect than a "gained" muscle effect. It's in physiology 101.
    4. You said I still lost some muscle, let me tell you If you gain strenght, you gain muscle at the very minimum. Usualy strenght = muscle.
Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research has several peer reviewed studies covering the neuro motor function of muscle and how strength can increase without gaining extra mass. Mostly done with ISOMETRIC EXERCISES which are also used for rehabilitation. Muscle can atrophy and lose conditioning. Regaining that conditioning doesn't require gaining muscle.
    5. But more strenght is definately not muscle loss.
Can be also said that strength gain isn't due to muscle hypertrophy.
    6.You spread misinformation

If you could do both at the same time then body builders would not go through bulk and cut cycles. If have been lifting for years and do not have a lot of fat stores you cannot gain muscle in a caloric deficit plain and simple, it is you that is making false statements and generalizations.

one study, that you did not post a link to does not make a truth, have these results been achieved in a follow up study how was the study conducted etc. No one said muscle you would lose muscle the first day of a 2000 cals deficit, but after a few days you would.

FYI: eating 1500, and burning 3500 would be the same as not eating and burning 2000 cals/day.

    FYI

Peer review is a process of self-regulation by a profession or a process of evaluation involving qualified individuals within the relevant field. Peer review methods are employed to maintain standards, improve performance and provide credibility. In academia peer review is often used to determine an academic paper's suitability for publication.

That online article is not peer-reviewed.
