lets ban light house cleaning from mfp

Hey! Cleaning an entire light house is hard work....0
-
ANY HOUSEWORK I DO GETS LOGGED, light, vigorous or otherwise.
LOOK, I even logged the time I played in the kiddie pool with my son today  .... and I AM PROUD OF IT!!!
so if that bursts your bubble:explode: :noway: :grumble: than go play in someone elses backyard :laugh:0 -
A 'house fly' is listed on mfp as a food in the data base. I say, don't ban it because some people eat them. To each his own although personally I'd prefer one dipped in chocolate.0
-
Let's also ban going out for a walk because that's not strenuous enough. Anything less than a 300 calorie burn is not exercise.
Now that the sarcasm is out of the way...
You have to move and you have to eat. What you put into your pie hole is 80 percent of weight loss (figures not verified.) Maybe the people who log light house work as exercise have been so unmotivated for so long and they're just now trying to change things up. Good for them. That light house work is going to turn into a walk or a jog or Zumba.
Let's encourage one another instead of calling the people who don't work out as hard as someone else lazy.
Oops... there goes me trying to climb the stairs for 15 minutes (btw, I could go longer than 5 and only logged 57 calories... but dang it! It was freakin' worth it! My calves were killing me the next day) cause it doesn't log more than 300 calories.0 -
if sex is not in there why is house cleaning. my vacuum is heavy and can give me a burn, but sex is a better burn,
agreed. I want to buy an HRM just to log sex because I am sure it would be a size-able burn!0 -
What if you're not alone in the shower but didn't want to post what you were actually doing in there?
FTW!0 -
I put in "restless leg syndrome" since reading that a really good bouncy leg can eat 25 calories per hour.
In a 6-8 hour day, that's nothing to scoff at!
I'm always tapping my legs! I'm not nervous, it's a habit.0 -
I personally don't like "big brother" watching over me and making choices for the things I do. I know people with health issues and any kind of movement is good, let it be light housekeeping. People don't like to be judged or ruled...just saying0
-
I second that- I really do - I understand the concept that any movement helps, but my question is - was the house always a mess before the journey of weight loss started - how about the cooking and preparation of meals, really?
Any movement does help but the every day chores are every day chores.
I am going to the dark side for being judgmental... *sigh*
YES agree! sorry but there is a difference between exercise and daily activity people!0 -
I'm 66 years old, I've had 3 rotator cuff repairs, an achilles tendon repair and a hip replacement. After all the repairs for torn tendons even from doing water aerobics, believe me, walking slowly, raking leaves, light housekeeping are all exercise!!0
-
They need to add 'posting on forums' there must be one or two calories burnt per post.
Haha! With how hard people must be hitting the keys out of rage it's definitely burning some calories.
But if you do it every day it doesn't count. Same goes for being a *kitten*.0 -

You could always wear a HRM and log sex yourself... :laugh:0 -
Have you ever tried to climb the steps of a lighthouse? Not even thinking about mopping each step as you go and scrubbing the walls! Anyone who has committed to lighthouse cleaning has undertaken a serious task and you should be ashamed for making...er...light of their work!
Awesome observation!0 -

It makes me very sad that people on this site seem to get this attitude that their way of fitness is better and so they must be smarter and just way more awesome than everyone else.
Aren't we all working towards a common goal? We should just support eachother and try to actually help when we can. The ONLY thing that bothers me on this site is when I see people eating like 800 calories a day and then buring almost all of it at the gym and not eating anything else.
*shrugs* I guess I just don't put too much emotional effort into this site though. I log my food, excercise and go on my way.0 -
What?! I can log that?! AWESOME!!
I agree! All this time I've been missing out on logging it?!

Lol, too funny!!! Ya'll are hilarious. Dave, don't forget to give them your address. Some of these ppl are out for blood, lmao.0 -
I disagree with banning it, BUT I get the OP's point. When people log every little thing they do, rack up a big calorie deficit, eat their calories back, and then are disappointed that they aren't losing, and then they ask for input on their diary. It's hard to say to someone, stop logging every time you stand up.
I understand why people over-log, though, because I did it when I first joined MFP. It's just cool to see how much energy I expend in a day. It makes me feel productive. However, the way I look at it, if it was something I was already doing when I was "fat," it isn't going to help me lose weight. I need to log only the activity that goes beyond what I was already doing as a normal part of my life. If i was already vacuuming a few times week when I was fat, those calories don't go in. Otherwise, I'll never create the calorie deficits I need.
Maybe we just need one really good, pinned thread that explains this so that when the question comes up, "Why am I not losing weight when I expend 4000 calories a day breathing and walking to the bathroom?" we can refer people to it. Probably not worth banning it, though.
*like* (we really need a like button)0 -

Are you serious?! That's kinda gross if you ask me.0 -

At first, I was thinking...where is he going with this?
__
For the record, if I want to log something that I think others will judge, I go to my news feed settings, un-check that little box, and log away. Actually, I keep it un-checked these days. Sometimes, you just want to keep a record of how much you moved that day. No harm, no foul, no biggie...who cares?0 -
Every BITE, LICK and TASTE you take counts when tracking your food because a "calorie is a calorie is a calorie"...wouldn't burning them work the same?

Come on now. Lighthouse cleaning is quite a difficult task, thank you very much!0

Just thought I'd put that out there.0 -
I would like to start a movement to eliminate the laziness of some of our fellow mfp pals. Lets help them help themselves!!!
YOU should really LOOK IN THE MIRROR, before you judge or critize other people. You probably have other things to work on before judging other people. MFP is for motivation and success, if you judge people that is not going to help them be successful or motivate them.0 -
I don't see a problem with logging just about anything. Whatever gets you motivated. Their activity level could be set to sedentary and the cleaning could be an honest effort to MOVE.0

Hey Bro..you forgot to put this on.
BAHAHAH! YES!!!0 -
Seriously...why worry about other people and what they consider exercise. You burn calories breathing, so why not doing light cleaning? There are 3 flights of stairs in my house, and when I'm going from the upstairs to the basement laundry room carrying a 25 pound basket of laundry, repeat that 3 times for 3 baskets...THAT'S BURNING CALORIES!
Go suck an egg, lady. And stop worrying about what people consider exercise!0 -

People who talk about dirty houses and cleaning them before joining MFP miss the point because they are measuring something different. (In addition to being self-righteous and judgmental...) Yes, one's house got dirty and one cleaned it before one joined MFP. And it burned just as many calories then. What we are measuring when we log in/out is the DIFFERENCE, positive or negative, between in and out. And just as all IN counts, even foods you ate before, so does all OUT count, even if you did it before. Can't I log strawberries, even though I ate them before I started my "weight loss journey," at times every day for breakfast? Yes, everyday chores are everyday chores, and EVERYTHING YOU DO burns calories. The very BEST way to log, though difficult, would be to find a way to actually add every little movement to your BMR. Since that's not practical, we all choose other methods of estimating. There is no reason yours is better than mine.0 -
