Hi everyone.

I weighed myself first thing this morning and then went back to bed (I have the day off). Four hours later I weighted myself again and I had lost 2 lbs... How the hell does that happen and which weight should I enter for my daily Weigh-In?

I try and weigh myself the same time every week, sometimes waiting just an hour can have a drastic effect on my weight loss. I'm guessing it just happens because you've gone four more hours without eating, so even more has burned off, or more water weight has been shed, not sure though. I would probably enter the one that is closes to your normal weigh in time.

why don't you just weigh yourself again just to make sure and take the measurement from this time...Sometimes our scales are buttheads...I know mine hates me. It sounds like your scale is in love with you...I'll trade you if you'd like =p

Precisely why I wait until I wake up late on the weekends to weigh....that's my skinniest time. I know, it is cheating. Oh well.

That happens to me! I'm not sure why. If the scale ever tells me something lower than it has before, I use that number for my weight tracking. I earned those 2 lbs whether it happened at the gym or sleeping :)

The same thing happens to me when I sleep in...typically noticed on Saturday because that's my only opportunity. Just so you don't get frustrated, you should probably use your normal weigh in time OR change your weekly weigh in to the later time. Just so your consistent.
  • I think I will keep the original weight this time. The extra 2 lbs would mark my first achievement of a loss of 10 lbs and I would like to know I did it right.

Or, maybe I'll go back to bed for the rest of the day...

I know I've already replied but could it be when were sleeping our blood doesn't pump as hard so it is more dense in our bodies? I know when we start moving and are awake our bodies produce more oxygen so the blood is always pumping harder..just a thought

The mass of our blood doesn't change its weight. Oxygen doesn't weigh anything and blood pressure won't change weight either.

Love!... So by sleeping 4 hours, I can lose 2 pounds... Dude! sleeping burns 1750 calories an hour! LOL
  • because you breathe out moisture... water weighs something. As you are not drinking then you are not replacing this moisture like you do during waking hours. Check out the condensation on the windows... comes from you.

I find when I get a full nights rest I lose more weight than when I don't. A proper amount of sleep is one of the keys to weight loss.

I have never lived in a place where condensation formed while I slept. And I lived Oregon, which is about the wettest place there is.

I am no scientist but I think that the time of day you weight yourself has many factors. The moons gravitational pull, earth's rotation might give slight (like a few 10th of a pound) difference. Also you body operation certain functions when you are asleep and while you are awake. We just have to look at the big picture. If you weight daily, you have to roll with it. If not, cut back to weighing yourself weekly or twice a week at the most.

i think thats why people say not to weight several times in a day..i weight myself once a day, usually around 830 in the morning..the body can fluctuate several pounds per day, so dont weigh more than once..pick a regular time, and stick with it:smile:

Nobody believes me when I say this happens. I always enter the first weight even though I prefer the two hour two lbs lighter weight.

That is accurate. The average person sweats around 2 pints worth of water during the night. 2 pints = 2 lbs. Almost everyone will see a similar drop in body weight overnight. Drinking and rehydrating in the morning will bring it back up to pre-sleep levels.

Yeah, this is why I weigh myself at the exact same time for every weigh in. I fluctuate about 2 pounds throughout the day every day, who knows why. I would count the one that seems closer to your "normal" weight.

I would say to just pick a consistent day and time to weigh yourself and stick with that. It also helps to weigh in the same thing each time. I weigh myself every Friday morning right before I get into the shower. That way I am getting the most accurate weight.

I find that when I get a good amount of sleep 7-8 hours I weigh less than when I get 5-6 hours.
