    This isn't really a "phrase" but I hate it when people tell me to smile. Unless you are taking a picture of me, do not tell me to smile. I am not some monkey in a cage that does tricks like smile on command. I could be having a really bad day and don't feel like smiling!

    ^love this, it was exactly what I was going to say. Just because I'm not actively smiling doesn't mean that I'm unhappy, and there's nothing more guaranteed to wind me up than for someone to say "cheer up it might never happen" to me. How do they know what type of a ****ty day you've had? IT might have already happened!

    When couples say WE'RE pregnant...really?! you're both gonna swell up, gain 20-30 lbs, deliver a 7-8lb baby and get stitches??!! NO! only the woman is pregnant!

    It bothered me when my boyfriend referred to the recent pregnany as my pregnany. She is OUR baby; therefore, it was OUR pregnancy. Yes I am the one who carried her, gave up my body, gained 40lbs, got major stretch marks, had a preterm labor scare and 4 day hospitalization, ended up going overdue after 11 weeks on bedrest, went through labor and a vacuum-assisted delivery, and had 16 stitches after an episiotomy and 4th degree tear, all without any pain medication- but she is still ours; our baby, our pregnancy. Our family.

    In other words, when men say "it's your pregnancy" to their woman. :)

    I have two lovely children whom I squeezed out of my little under 5'2" frame...I carried them, breastfed them and wear the stretchmarks to this day. My gorgeous husband of 24 years was at their birth, diapered them, walked the floor at three am with them, helped toilet train them...etc...of course they are OURS....BUT I was the only one pregnant!!

    Most people probably don't hear this but I listen to firefighter, paramedics and police officers say this on the radio all the time: "at this time...." No *kitten* at this time, you are saying it over a radio now, would it be in the past of the future?

    And how about when people say "pacific" instead of "specific"? You didn't Pacifically (ocean) ask for no pickles on your burger, you specifically asked for no pickles!!! GRRRRRR! (And yes I really growl out loud when annoyed :laugh: )

    I meant peacefully. I asked for no pickles very peacefully. Like a pacifist might do. I'm not gonna fight you about the pickles.

    And I agree with the 'oh you dont need to lose weight, theres nothing on you' erm there clearly is else I wouldnt be doing this.
    In fact there are a few that make me mad!

    I HATE it when someoe tells me to "take it easy" or "calm dowm" specially my husband. I feel like screaming at him "I was calm before you told me to be calm not I want to rip your head off."

    Because it basically translates to "I'm not sorry I did what I did, only that you responded so poorly". You might as well just keep that to yourself.

    "He's such a Nimrod" being meant as a negative slur. If you look up the name "Nimrod" you will find that he was in the Old Testament of the Bible and listed as "A great and mighty hunter".

    People down east (in North America) use some in an annoying way! They say things like "Your daughter is some pretty" or "that was some annoying"... seriously? I feel like they are saying partially and it drives me nuts! lol It just isn't in my non east vocabulary

    Where on earth is "down east" ??

    Well actually saying you "could care less" says you actually care as you could actually care less than you are already.

    However

    If you "couldn't care less" then you well and truly could not give two s**** about it... you honestly don't care...

    Quite different the two phrases, and is annoying when people mix them up...

    I have never heard/seen anyone say "I could care less" as anything other than a way of trying to convey that they don't care...and it's wronnnnng

    I'm not from the South, and people here say "or either" ALL the time and it makes my ears bleed. "You could go that way, or either you could go this way." GAHHH!

    I also hate it when people repeat something they find amusing, after the phrase "you said". Ex:

    me: I want to high-five him. In the face.
    her: haha you said you want to high-five him in the face!
    Uh, I know. I just said it! ?!?!??!?!

    I just recently moved to California from Chicago and I hear the word "hella" all the time here.

    "that shirt is hella cute" or "he is hella sexy". It makes me want to high five them in the face with a chair

    I think because it irritates the piss out of me- it will be very unlikely that I will ever say it. It doesn't even make sense to me, check with me in six months from now :wink: I might owe you a drink

    LOL Hella is used in place of words like really, very, extremely and so on. One phrase commonly used is "that's hella tight" lol meaning that's really cool.

    Reading through all of these made me think of another.. My fiance always says "Ya know?" or "Ya know what I mean." Then he keeps talking! More often than not, I DON'T know or I DON'T know what he means!! :grumble:

    Mine is "It is what it is..." I can't stand it when someone says that. It is totally over used, and makes no sense whatsoever.

    When people tell me to pray for something that requires actual effort. I get praying when you're grieving or stressed or something in a calming or meditative way. I get it, I do. But....

    When I was unemployed and needed a job, people would say "oh honey just go home and pray and god will work it out for you." "don't worry about paying your bills, God will take care of it if you pray hard enough"
    Um no. I need to go fill out applications and keep Trying to get a job, because God isn't hiring nor is he sending magical cash advances through the heavens into my bank account."
