Help me settle a debate between my Husband and Me

So..... We have to redo the basement because it flooded a year ago. We are at the part where we are going to start painting and..........
I think we should paint the walls first and then paint the floor.
My reasons:
* If you paint the wall it will drip
* Clean up on the floor won't matter as much
* Sometimes there is unseen splatter from rolling
He thinks we should paint the floor first.
His reasons:
* It will be easier to wipe up
If there are any other reasons I don't know because that seems to be the only one he keeps giving me. Am I in the wrong? I want answers! Why do we have such a silly debate and why does it bother me soooooo much! Help I want to see which seems more practical. Thanks :indifferent:

You're right. Walls first, trying NOT to drip, then floor.
Cuz I said so.0 -
I'd paint the walls first, as well. It isn't easier to wipe up drips, spatters and spills if you don't catch them before they dry. You will be less likely to spatter the walls when painting the floor than vice versa.0
-
I agree with you on doing the walls first! It will make the cleanup / cover up process a LOT easier.0

Walls first.
I'm confused by your husband's argument...as I'm usually confused by MY husbands. LOL0 -

Floors are harder to prep than walls, so that may be his thinking. You're constantly sweeping dirt and debris off floors, where you aren't on walls.
Either way a DROP cloth pretty much solves either issue.

I can tell you this much...professional painters would paint the walls first. Messes are less of a worry, and if you paint the floor last you can paint yourself out of the room and not have to walk on it again until you're ready for furniture.0
-
I didn't read any of this. I am going to side with your husband.0
-
Walls first.0
-
Walls.
I've done this before, and it worked out magically.0 -
Do this.........whoever gets their way does the work.0
-
I hate to go against the man code, but I'm siding with you! Walls first, then floor. LOL0
-
Just let your husband win by allowing him to paint the floor. The respect itself will reward him. If the paint drops, let him do all the cleaning up. (Try not to say "I TOLD YOU SO") Have fun!0
-
Walls first because of the drip factor.0
-
Have someone else do it...painting sucks!0
-
Always work from the top down, the paint on the floor will need to cure for at least a week before you walk on it anyway so best to do that last.0
-
flip a coin, it doesn't really matter as long as it all gets painted properly.0
-
Walls first because as they dry, you can paint the floor.
That's how I did our basement when I was 14...0 -

ha, yeah have lots of fun trying not to say that!! i say walls though.0 -
Walls first! And not just because I'm siding with the woman...but because it is LOGICAL that way....0

I do believe it is going to be epoxy0 -
I was going to suggest walls first, but since it's epoxy... sorry... i think your husband might be right on this one...
AAANNNDDD yes get dropcloths or even open up garbage bags and put those down.0 -
Always work from the top down...
That sounds kinky. Sorry, I didn't read the rest.

I say have him do all the work how he wants, and you go for a walk while he is working. He can tell you when he is finished.0

Too funny I am not mad at my husband I seriously and trying to understand his side. Hence why I asked, I don't like to disagree with the hubby.0 -
Maybe the argument is due to the fact that you say my husband and me and instead of my Husband and I. Just saying

LMAO!! I would still help0 -
Have someone else do it...painting sucks!
We are a very big do it yourself couple. We have redone the basement before because of a flood. We put walls up and built a wet bar, computer office and storage room, also laundry and bathroom. We don't mind doing it ourselves. This time we decided to paint the floor cause its all different and yes we fixed the flooding problem this time too so we can not have sewage come into our house again THANK GOD!!0 -
My husband says that you work your way from the top to the bottom. So ceiling, walls then floor!0
