Holly Madison & Shape Magazine??? WTF??

I felt exactly the same. I actually sent the editors an email about it because I was so disappointed. I'm sure they'll be receiving a lot of letters from disappointed readers.0

So is this equivalent to Marie Osmond's 50 lbs weight loss that she claims Nutrisystem is responsible for. Funny how she landed that deal after she lost 50 lbs on the "Dancing with the washed up has beens... oops i mean stars" tv show.0

It is what it is.. They need to sell magazines and what better way then putting a playboy bunny on the cover and promoting a "quick fix".. I expect nothing less from magazines like this. Its a good business move really!
But hey, thats why I don't read *kitten* like this LMAO0 -
Thumbs down on their article definitely. I stopped subscribing to them after being a reader for years because some of their content was getting a little ridiculous and too much about the bad advertisements. They are supposed to be supporting healthier lifestyles and now they are supporting weight loss supplements? Shame on them. Those pills don't work. Maybe in the short term, but the only thing that works for the long haul is hard work, dedication and a permanent lifestyle change.0

Agreed and thought the same thing. If I hadn't gotten the subscription free, I'd be really peeved.
I also don't believe for one second that she lost 20 pounds and weighs 110 pounds at 5'5, unless her head and boobs are full of helium.0 -

I got the new issue of Shape yesterday and immediately went to the letters section to see the feedback. Wow! Not only did they not print any complaint letters (which I'm sure they got), but they printed a "pro NV" letter that included information on the company's web site and pricing information for the product at Walmart.
Further proof that magazines are just one giant paid advertisement. I wont' be renewing this one.
I'm sure SHAPE got a large sum for endorsing NV. That is probably why Holly was brought in, the ads, and positive letters were even included.0 -
I have a year's subscription to Shape, since they were on sale last year for $1.99 through Tanga. I have not been impressed. There are a lot of weight-loss supplement ads, and I agree with what a lot of posters said about Holly's story: it sounded scripted, and what is to congratulate for losing weight on pills? Show me a success story where someone altered their diet and busted their butt and cried their way through their weight loss and I'll call THAT a success.0

As others have mentioned, Shape has been in decline for a long time, trying to sell "lengthening" of muscles, spot toning and other counterproductive ideas. I used to always sneak reads of my ex's Men's Health magazines instead (and eventually they started trying to get Maxim-y and ruined some of their content as well).
Sounds like this is a new low.0 -
My husband bought me several subscriptions when I quit smoking and told him I wanted to get Fit and Healthy...
Health
Fitness
Womens Health
Shape
Shape ends up on the bottom of the magazine rack as I cannot stand the overall message of it, and always feel like I am being sold a used car.
It will not get renewed...... unless something changes.0 -
I can't believe they printed that, she used a weight loss supplement, how should that be a success story? Why don't they take one of the success stories from here?? I read Fitness Magazine and I love that they use real people who work hard to lose weight.0

Ok, thats pretty HOT!!! ;-)0 -
Yeah they will never publish the negative letters though.0
-
I agree with you!
Plus, hasn't she had plastic surgery? And maybe surgery to help with her body shape? That's not what I thought the magazine was about, either.0 -
and this is why i don't even skim "fitness magazines" unless they are sport specific (bodybuilding, runners world, etc.) i think that general fitness magazines are just 150 pages of advertising and crap quick fix suggestions that are about as reliable as a diet pill that says "with this pill, plus a balanced diet and exercise program you can lose weight too." No *kitten* sherlock, without this pill plus a balanced diet and exercise program just about anyone can lose weight.0
-
I've seen them publish negative letters before, but they probably won't put mine in. I'm too blunt with calling them out on the carpet.;-)
I really like Fitness and Self magazines better, but they still have the same issues, at least with their advertisements. I love success stories that are REAL PEOPLE, working hard to take the weight off in the way doctor's recommend --- healthy eating and exercise. Those are what keep me reading and subscribing.
If I see more of this, I'll definately drop my subscription to Shape. We can all use the extra few bucks.

I agree completely with your letter. And also, I would have been more than thrilled to be her size when she was bigger. Just another article to show average busy women that they don't live up to expectations even if they were to reach their goal weight.0
-
I agree with you!!! Why would they even have her on the cover, not a good example! We want to see ready people on this mag. that ready put there energy in losing weight not someone who is taking pills!0
-
I agree. (btw, I love your ticker. I love JLo's abs in that video!)0

Yeah, I'd eat the cookies...and a little more0 -
I agree with you whole-heartedly. I thinks it's bull that they even advertise that crap in their magazines!! They should be advertising healthy foods, and exercise gear, not diet pills.0
-
Success story? WTF what was she a size 1 before and now shes a size 0!! Seriously thumbs down way to give us some more body complex issues ughh.0
-
Personally I don't really see any results. Her after picture is of her breasts and face, not even of her figure. I agree that a weight loss supplement is not the healthy way to approach weight loss.0
-
I agree. Getting plastic surgery and going to the gym while taking weight loss pills is not something to be proud of. She could've gotten lipo and fit into her jeans again. So stupid.0
-
Holly has bills to pay so you can't hold the ads against her.
I like her for more than the obvious reasons so I would tend to give her some slack.0 -
I'm SO glad I wasn't the only one who noticed this in last month's magazine! I was shocked that they would use her of all people and then advertise some lame weight loss pill. My subscription had a couple issues left, so I decided not to renew. I think Shape has changed, not sure why, but it's not longer for me! Bye-bye.
And, it wasn't just an ad for her and a weight loss pill, they actually FEATURED her in a weight loss success story.0 -
You're definitely not out of line! Thumbs up to you!0
-
Anything for a buck!0
-
She wasn't big before from the pictures? You can't see all of her in the after either. Rubbish article, I agree! Boo
Exactly what I was thinking!0 -
Wow.....I guess we know advertising works   . What a crock!!! :noway: :noway: For people on MFP who are really working hard and not using harmful "diet" pills...congratulations....you have common sense  !!!! Ding ding ding ding ding!!! Which is more than I can say for that poor excuse for a success story!! Just my 2cents.0
