Foods that got tossed- when you got SERIOUS!!

I can honestly say, I haven't "given up" anything. I do try not to purchase a lot of processed/prepackaged foods, but sometimes you can't avoid it. I find that if I deny myself something, I just want it that much more. That being said, I try hard to cook healthier versions of things I already eat. I am also trying new foods and learning to love things I used to hate (fish!). My main thing is portion control. I still eat out, and I have bad days. I just do it all in moderation, and I find it really helps if I use MFP to plan out my days.0

I don't bring it into the house but eating out is always still hard to avoid. But if I do go out with the hubby or a girls night I'll try and get the healthiest thing on the menu.
as for what I'm currently trying to avoid...
- coke, my biggest addiction.. no seriously lol
- pizza
- pasta - i love carbs! so avoiding pasta is hard
- basmati rice - being indian, the thick savoury curries with rice are hard to resist but they don't look good on my thighs
that's all I am trying to avoid really. I'm just adding more veggies and fruits to my diet and cutting out the
bad snack foods.0 -
Fried foods.
Fast food cheeseburgers
100 calorie bags of ANYTHING
Chips...:( hardest one, for me
Chocolate bars. Still have chocolate, just not Snickers or Reese's
Ice cream. It's all about fro yo now.
Diet Coke. A serious addiction.
Some pre-packaged foods. I'm making the transition from buying Homestyle Bakes and Hamburger Helper to making my own.
There are a lot of things I won't give up. I still eat junk foods. I still eat fast food. I still eat frozen dinners (on occasion). I still eat what I like. Just things that I know are better in moderation.0 -
I honestly haven't giving up anything but sugar in my coffee I switched to Splenda, other then that I eat everything in moderation. Like last week I wanted a banana Royale form Basin Robbins I worked out burned about 1500 calories that day and got my banana Royale! LOL
I very much agree with this one, I eat anything l want but l do burn the calories so that l can eat it..0 -
All,
What are some of the foods that you tossed when you got really serious about getting a healthy diet?
here's a few that I loved and thought were helping me, but now they're outta here:
Trader Joe's 100 cal oatmeal chocolate chip cookies
100 cal cheez-it snack bags
90 cal fudge brownies
90 cal rice krispy treats
subway sandwiches
TJ's greek pomegranate yogurt
white rice
popcorn
some of these might be okay- but I found they don't work for me when I'm trying to show some decreases on the scale
I'm curious why you tossed some of these? I agree with the 100 cal snacks...the quantity is almost never satisfying. Although the 90 calorie fiber one brownies are fantastic for a couple of reasons...
I eat subway all the time. If I need a fast dinner that is under 400 or 500 calories its almost always subway. I don't know what TJ's is but I eat the pomegranate chobani almost daily....
White rice makes sense...Popcorn is incredibly low as far as calories go for a good sized snack.0 -
Frozen meals like Lean Cuisne, SmartOnes, Healthy Choice, etc. And I don't miss them!0
-
Nothing! I haven't given up anything...I just moderate and budget for them.0
-
I think its mostly about moderation. However I've completely stopped eating these items and feel much much better:
Cereal - basically anything boxed. There's too much sugar and little protein. I am always hungry if I eat cereal for breakfast, even the "healthy" kind
Cow's Milk- I now use Almond Milk
Frozen meals- Lean cuisine, Healthy choice...etc. They are now too salty for me.
Processed Bread/canned biscuits
Soda0 -
processed foods, soda...really need to toss the bread, but sooo hard to kick. probably will never be able to go without my chocolate either.0
-
Oreo Cookies
Ice Cream
Cake
Fried Foods...NEVER!!!!!!!!! But I do eat it small quantities every other week.0 -
Fried foods, cut back on pasta, just try not to eat out
Oh eating out is the devil!
white bread, fizzy drinks, sweets (not including chocolate.. never including chocolate)0 -
i said goodbye to diet coke, white bread, white rice, pasta, red meat, and stopped using butter, sugar, and flour completely. unfortunately i live with my parents, and so i only mentally tossed these things, but they are still tangibly in the kitchen and looking delicious each time i go in there... will power, have mercy on me~0

White rice.
And coming from an Asian household, that's a BIG thing. lol0 -
Bacon and potato chips. My 2 true loves. I miss them dearly and still visit on the rare occasion.0
-
I am REALLY trying not to eat anything processed or canned or that comes in a box (except cereal and oatmeal).0
-
I didn't give up anything. I eat everything I want, in moderation0
-
All processed foods (Well 99% of them)
No grains including corn
No more peanut butter or beans of any kind
The real question is what cheats do I still eat?
Hormel Black Label Pre-cooked Bacon (only 1 minute and its done, too convenient to give up)
Morningstar Farms Veggie Sausage Patties (too much protein to give up)
Yocream Frozen yogurt twice a month
Small amounts of dark chocolate here and there.0 -
Also just to answer your question...
I haven't given anything up entirely. I only drink soda now on "cheat" days and even then I stick with a small amount or a coke zero. I used to drink soda all day every day and oddly I don't really miss it.
Other than that...I've given up pastries for breakfast. Not even really because of calories but because of energy. I feel way better eating some hard boiled eggs or yogurt.
I have definitely given up on 100 calorie packs of everything except popcorn.0 -
Nothing.
Just smaller portions of it all.0 -
I lived on iced coffee. With a scoop of powdered Chai in it, and whole milk. Now I have one regular cup of coffee with fat free creamer and splenda. I bet I cut 800 calories a day giving up the chai and whole milk.0

I live with two guys (my boyfriend and his best friend) and they eat so much and it's all just absolutely terrible for you. I used to eat what they did, and long story short, now I'm here. But foods I threw out were Frozen Pizzas, Gardettos (so much bad for you), microwavable burritos (like 360 calories a pop), my soda (which was the hardest), cupcakes and candy.
The boys still eat all of it, but they make sure that there is enough good food in the house too. Whenever I get a sweet craving I'll have fruit instead. Though, sometimes I'll indulge in a candy bar or pizza but only every now and then and not every day.0 -
Red meat and pork are always my barriers. I can never lose weight while eating either of them.
Also, cookies. I'm a cookie monster. I find that if they aren't in the house (and I don't bake any), I am not tempted.
I have a junk-food junkie husband, and three children...it's hard to toss the things they still eat, so it's just a lot of will power and better choice items which I keep laying around. There's still pop (soda) in my house, instant oatmeal, take out, Doritos, popcorn, chocolate from Grandma, white rice and pasta. It's just a choice that I have made to limit my intake of it all.0 -
White sugar
Ice Cream
Pasta
Soda
Dairy (I am allergic anyways)
Wheat products0 -
Excellent! There's no reason to eat nutrient poor food packed with preservatives and frozen ice chips when the approach of just "eating real food, not too much" will do.0
-
I stopped eating desserts on a daily basis, eat them on weekends and then eat them in moderation!0
-
Beer! When I tossed that, all the bad food I used to eat after a beer binge went with it. I feel great.0
-
Trying my absolute hardest to eliminate these:
High fructose corn syrup
Partially hydrogenated oils
Preservatives
I buy food based on ingredients, not on numbers. I want my food to be simple and made of ingredients I've actually heard of and am okay putting in my body.0 -
Tossed a jar of Nutella that had been sitting in my cupboard recently. I just don't need that temptation!
Also, tossed a full bottle of Annie's Goddess dressing (then luckily found a lower-calorie version, yay)0 -
Chips - I love salty crispy greasy chips. No flavors, just salt covered goodness. Yep - totally tossed them all.0
-
I was just telling my MFP about the fact that I had to go vegan/mostly raw in order to lose weight , Im serious! It probably is because my thyroid is really underactive and I have hashimotos thyroiditis but that is what I have to deal with.
Here are foods that were keeping me fat and preventing me from losing and weight!
nonfat yogurt
cheese
diet soda
equal
wheat
breads
cereals
milk-ALL DAIRY
I do miss yogurt and pizza but I have to get myself back to healthy thru my plant-based diet....I am so happy Imk losing its been since Oct. 2011 since I lost weight . I wish I would of got "serious" months ago!0
