They are not the best choice but I believe evrything in moderation and smaller portions can be worked it. No deprivation but lifestyle changes.0

You can eat anything you want. If you're planning on losing weight, make sure you're in a calorie defecit.0

This. If you want fried food, have it. Try logging it into MFP before you eat it to see if the numbers are okay for your allowance and then decide if it's worth it.0 -
I would try to find a recipe to "oven fry" the fish0
-
IMO and IME, NOTHING is a no no. All things in moderation.0
-
Agreed. Anything in moderation as long as you are ultimitely traveling toward overall healthier selections. I just ask myself, is this worth it? If the answer is yes, I don't look back. And let's face it, sometimes the answer is just YES!0

Pleeeease. I had chicken fried steak and mashed potatos the other night. I still managed to be under my calories.0

ok, that sounds good....i will try oven fried fish..but i wonder do u still have to use flour0
-
I personally don't consider anything a complete no-no. as long as you can work it into a generally healthy diet, and stay under your calories, I say a little bit is okay!!!
of course it will never been the HEALTHY option, but don't deprive yourself too much.
edit to add - but I would definitely encourage finding other ways to satisfy that catfishy craving. even breading and just baking is a way better idea!0 -
No............ If you even glance in its direction, you will instantly gain 20 lbs that will take a year to get rid of.0
-
I second everyone's response. IF it's something you badly want it work it into your daily menu0

flour.. probably yes? but I'm sure you can look up gluten-free batters somewhere on the almighty internet0 -
My husband and I like to have "fat days"... once evry couple weeks to once a month, we eat junk to get our fix and then the next day we're on our best behavior again. Plan a catfish day and go crazy, then the next day go back to being good!0

since I started dieting I do all my fish in the oven. trout, cod, salmon anything. I just brush on a little olive oil and then I brush on a spicy mustard and bake in the oven at 350 for 25 minutes and it is awesome.0

You can also look it up in the database so you can plan your daily meal around it, if you want it bad enough. You don't have to deprive yourself completely of the things you love.0 -
Try cornmeal or panko bread crumbs instead of flour for a crispier outside! This recipe is great and you get all the flavor of fried catfish with no guilt. Nice with a teensy bit of kick. Have it on some low calorie bread as a sandwich or on top of a salad of cabbage.

Fried foods, greasy food, fast food... these are all things that you can either cut out completely or have in moderation depending on your willpower and if it works with your daily calorie goal. There's nothing wrong with having it every once in a while and in smaller portions as someone else mentioned. If you can though I would always check the calorie content before consumption, it can easily discourage you from eating it or give you an idea of what portion you need to be aiming for.
Always remember to drink lots of water during and after for the sodium.0 -
I think denying yourself anything is never a good thing. All in moderation! My thing is crisps, the odd bag now and then isn't going to kill me in the long run, as long as I'm within my daily calorie goal. Life's too short!! )0
-
you can eat whatever you want....just moderatly. eating one or two pieces of fried catfish every now and then won't KILL you, just make sure to put in a good workout to make up for it. Or try frying it at home with olive or grapeseed oil, or any monosaturated fatty oils0
-
nothing is a no no. you need to make sure you are eating and logging the correct portions for any food you eat no matter if its the typical healthy food or something fried and or greasy. if you dont have the available calories to eat it then go do enough exercise to account for the extra calories your going to or already have gone over.0

Wow! must have had a huge deficit to cover or you weren't in Texas. I think it's a state law that all chicken fried steaks must be the size of a standard car's hubcap.0 -
IIFYM. If it fits your macros then eat that *kitten*.
Track it, eat it.0 -
It's obviously not the best thing for you, but anything is ok, in moderation. I don't like to restrict certain things from my diet otherwise I'll just crave it non-stop lol.
There are better ways to eat fried food though. Go for items that are lightly breaded, and not dripping in grease. You can deep fry food w/o having it be a grease bucket. Blot it with a napkin or something to pick up any extra grease before you eat it.
If you are making something at home, use olive oil instead of any other oil or grease, including butter. Olive oil is better for you and has heart healthy fats in it.
Just remember, MODERATION.0 -
I had two whole catfish last month and they were goooooood!!!!!. About 460 calories each so I made sure to workout that day and adjusted my other meals. Try to stay away from the hush puppies though because they can add bunches of calories very quickly. I try to only eat fried food once a month as a special treat. As others have said, moderation is the key.0

don't forget there are good fats out there too. you could fry the fish in coconut oil or olive oil. still in moderation but good for you too. with coconut oil a little goes a long way !0

If you want catfish and can work catfish into your daily calories, go for it! I will tell you this - sometimes when you eat better and your body adjusts to it, the things you used to love? Well, they don't sit so well with you. I used to LOVE cheeseburgers and now? Ground beef does not sit well with me - makes me quite sick actually. Just something to keep in mind.0

we don't control what you eat. nothing is considered a "no no" - it's not like give out daily beatings for eating something fried...0 -
When I oven-fry chicken, I dip it in egg and then in panko or seasoned bread crumbs, spray a tinfoil lined baking sheet, put the chicken on, then spray some zero calorie spray on top so they get crispy. Cook a little more than halfway, turn, then cook the rest of the way. Chicken tenders usually take between 15-20 minutes depending on the thickness. Yum yum yum. Had those last night.0

I was turned on to Pan-Searing and it gives it a crisp taste....I have even tried it with a little breading on it...GOOD.....0
