Hi Gayle and welcome to the site!

I started over a year ago and hit a bump last summer. I'm back at it and determined to get rid of the extra fat.
I'm 55 years young and currently at 180, looking to get down to 130ish (depends how I feel and look to myself).
I use Walk away the pounds (Leslie Sansone) for my cardio, and I use a kettlebell workout for strength training.

Fell free to add me, my diary is open to public.

No Christine, you started right now by being here. Tomorrow you will be continuing on your journey!
  • Hi! I am 49 years old and I have struggled with my weight since my last child was born 23 years ago. Terrible isn't it? In my 30s I tried WW and lost 49 pounds. Then I went back to graduate school and then all the weight came back and then some. Over the past few years, I have lost about 30 pounds. 10 pounds came back on even though I started running. My clothes are getting tighter and I am so frustrated I could cry. I have tried WW again, calorie counting, South Beach diet and keep gaining and losing the same 10 pounds.
I need a diet buddy or buddies to keep me motivated.

I am 55 and started about 3 months ago. This site is so helpful and has really made accountable to myself. And I don't want to mess up this time. All my life I have had weight issues, When I was in 7th grade and weighed 105, I thought I was fat. When I was a teenager and all the other girls were slim and I weighed 150, I thought I was fat. Now at 55, I hit nearly 300 and I KNOW I am fat. My starting weight on January 17 was 271. Today I am at 238 and I feel better, am exercising and am determined to do this. Anybody want to be my friend, please do. I will be here for a while.

Hi, I'm Trish. I'm 53, and have been here since August 2011. I welcome friends my age, because it seems likes it's harder to lose weight at this stage of my life. Add me if you like! :)

Hi - I am Ginger and started about two weeks ago. So far I have lost 6 1/2 lbs. I am 56 years old and my doctor put the fear of God in me so I am very motivated (blood sugar too high). So I need to lose weight, exercise, more and get that blood sugar down. Anyone with blood sugar lowering suggestions, I'd love to compare notes.

My starting point was 213, and my first goal is 175. Doing well now, but I leave for a cruise in 2 weeks, so I hope I can keep it up.

Justed wanted to say Hi. I am 55 and have lost weight here and some before I joined MFP. This has been a great resource for me. I am getting to the point I want to maintain. But I still plan on being here everyday to keep me on track. This will work for you if you are determined to make it work. Even at our age. You can add me if you like.

Hi - I am definitely mature- like old cheese at 55. I have been losing weight for a year now and am approaching my goal and adapting as I go. I have reduced my goal by another 2 kilos- but intend staying here once I start maintenance. I don't want to risk gaining after all the hard work of losing 40 kilos - which is roughly 88lbs. Add me if you want . Good luck with your journey!

Hi, my name is Ingelise. I have been on here for about a month or so but only read the posts. I decided to join in today because this board seems to fit me. I am 57 and have needed to lose weight for most of my life and like several of you, I have lost and gained and repeated the cycle many times. I am determined this time and I think the support is what I have been lacking all along! Please add me so I to can be accountable. I am struggling with what to eat, I seem to choose healthy foods but by the end of the day, I am usually over the amount of calories set out for me.

Hi, my name is Karen, I'm 51, I've been on MFP for 215 days as of today! I've lost 19lbs with about 8 to10 more to reach my goal. I now need to begin to firm up my mid section & maintain. I really enjoy this site and would love to support & be supported by particularly but not necessarily ladies battling menopause. I have some awesome friends that I couldn't have achieved this without! Please add & let the cheering begin :flowerforyou:

Yes it is a pain to carry the extra weight and hard to lose when we get older. It is very helpful to have friends / support. Does 60 qualify as mature? (Give me my senior discount)

  • Hi Everybody, I am 29 and a stay-at-home mom of a 1 1/2 year old and am starting to struggle. I find having friends on my site helps me stay motivated. Would anybody like to add me as a friend? I would be happy to have anybody join me. I have at least 15-20 more pounds to lose.

Hi I'm Dot and I also belong to the 55+ club. Everyone is really supportive and friendly. I have lost 7 pounds in the two weeks since I joined. I have not been able to lose anything for two years since I quit smoking. Feel free to add me.:drinker:
