Fat that you eat, Hamburger. lets say. Goes into your digestive tract. Depending on how quickly you pass it among other things determans how much of that fat is absorbed into your body/blood stream.
Fat that isn't absorbed, continues through your intestines, colon ext and exits.
Maybe I'm slow, but isn't that what I was surmising? More fiber (to a point, of course) expels the fat faster and therefore less of the fat is absorbed into your body.

My personal opinion is that even though you used to be regular...u still weren't flushing ALL that needed to be flushed out...the result was bloating. After eating high fiber for several days, you finally got rid of everything you needed to thus getting rid of the bloat. If you are burning more calories than taking in you will lose weight...despite how much you poop out. But if you are retaining to much waste, you're tummy may not show all of your hard work till you properly dispose0

I tried a similar experiment where I decided to get 75% of my fiber from beans. 3 days no go. I was bloated. I drank what. I little movement but not much. I at popcorn. The damn busted. You have to get the right combinations of fiber also. For me it seems to be popcorn and fibrous fruits and vegies. It may be something different for you. (Oh and I lost the 3 pounds that I should have lost but refused to go away.)0

i want to know about this question tho!....do u get ur pooping scheduel with the help of genetics as well?.....i eat fairly healthy and lots of fiber but poop once a day sometimes once every 2 days.....same goes for my oldest son......my youngest son poops about 5-7times a day my boyfriend who doesnt even come close to the same fiber count as i do poops about 3 times a day0

So I know nothing about this topic but hearsay and maybee wives tales so I probabaly should not even be posting, but it was just too much fun I couldn't resist, asking my questions too.
So I have heard 2 things.
1) It healthy to have stool really smelly because of the trillions of bacteria that are working inside your gut to make you healthy. ( I am pretty sure this is true)
2) These special kinds of bacteria improve metabolism and digestion process. (They are the main reason why your stool stinks.) AND if you want to gage how fast your digestion and metabolism is eat a small amount of charcoal. When you notice it come out count back to when you ingested it and that will tell you how long it takes you to digest your food. Heathier metabolisms digest food and excrete waste faster. Is this true?

Yep, that is true! Fiber makes (a bit) more of the fat you eat pass right through you, by both absorbing it and speeding up its going through your system. Fiber is also good for weight loss because it's not rich in energy but makes you feel full for a longer time...0 -
Just remember to drink a lot of water with fiber, if not it can block you up.0

Yes that is what I am saying. I just wanted to make the distinction about where the fat was comming from, it can prevent absorbtion; it doesn't pull the fat from your body. Probably the best way to prevent fat absorbtion is to not eat it in the first place.
On a side note... IF YOU REALLY want to prevent fat absorbtion you should try Giardia. LOL. I got Giardia once from my dog, it was the best diet I've ever been on... except the whole violently ill part. :laugh:0 -

dieters get keytones and it is helpful.....you can measure your keytones with keytone sticks in the diabetes section of your local wal mart walgreens cvs place
you get keytones buy going no carb.....or very little carb.....downfall to low carb no carb...once you get below 100 grams of carbs per day you suffer from headaches, mental confusion, cloudy thoughths inability to concentrate and stay focused and so on....

Question: What is Ketosis?
Answer: A lot of people are confused by the term "ketosis." You may read that it is a "dangerous state" for the body, and it does sound abnormal to be "in ketosis." But ketosis merely means that our bodies are using fat for energy. Ketones (also called ketone bodies) are molecules generated during fat metabolism, whether from the fat in the guacamole you just ate or fat you were carrying around your middle. When our bodies are breaking down fat for energy, most of the it gets converted more or less directly to ATP. (Remember high school biology? This is the "energy molecule.") But ketones are also produced as part of the process.
When people eat less carbohydrate, their bodies turn to fat for energy, so it makes sense that more ketones are generated. Most cells, including the brain cells, are able to use ketones for at least part of their energy. I wish schools taught more about this topic. Instead society teaches us it's gross, and many people do not talk about their bowel movements and think because they go, they are "regular"

I do NOT agree that doing a "colon cleanse" is for weight lost purposes.
I do agree that it can be done for health purposes.

When a person is constipated/not regular, and has not gone for several days. Perhaps 2-3 days but I've heard there are people that haven't gone for 7 days.
You finally go ONCE in 2-3 days, and then wait another 2-3 days to go.
Question: Do you think you've expelled all the waste that has been building up in those 2-3 days? Nothing is "left over"?
Your large intestine is only approx 5 ft long by ~ 2.5 inches.
Question: Does everyone think that their 2-3 meals of full plate meals/junk food/1500 cal meals every day for 2-3 days is magically disappearing in that one bowel movement?
Your colon can only hold so much, and I've heard the term Mega colon, Which is the large intestine/colon dilating. In extreme cases feces is turning into hard masses inside the colon (according to wikipedia) .
When you get a colonoscopy done, they view the first 5 feet of large intestine, your colon.
What about the other 20-23 feet of small intestine that's bundled up in your body.
The small intestine is approx 1/2" in diameter Size of a dime, in a regular person.
After 2-3 days of constantly not going, your colon is full, and your still eating more food, your constipated.
Question: The waste does not back up to the small intestine?
Question: Is it not possible then, that the small intestines can also dilate and get bigger in size.?
The Villi are the little hair like protrustions into the intestine that absorbe nutrients from the food we eat.
Question: If the small intestine gets backed up, these villi are basically soaked in it's own waste, and not gettnig the nutrients out of our food?

ketosis and keytones cause my neice pure hell, she is 14 and type 1 has been since age 2. When she has lrg keytones the school calls and she has to come home and monitor her sugar sit still and drink water. She is on an insulin pump and my sister monitors her very closely.
I have keytone strips, they cost about 10 bucks for a container. You pee on it match the color and see if you have zero to large in your urine.

If you are not trying to lose weight, the amount of any food per day is subjective to the following: age, health conditions, pysical activity(calorie expenditure per day) There are many other minor factors which may determine the amount of calories and carbs that a person needs. So based on the law of individualism, each individual is unique and their needs are different based on various factors.
It depends on how many calories/day diet you maintain. 45% of your daily intake should be carbs. On a 1600 calorie a day diet 720 calories should come from carbs. Or about 180 grams. The important thing is what KIND of carbs.

I recently reconstructed my diet and lost 30 lbs in about 10 months and 2 inches off my waist. I base my food plan on these three rules: Calories must be less than or between 1000 and 1500. Grams of fat must never exceed 35g. Grams of carbohydrate cannot exceed 100 for a maintenance diet once the weight has been lost. I do not limit the kinds of food that I can eat only the amount. I eat snacks during the day and drink between 2 and 4 4 liters of water. I also have a strict exercise schedule.

Stay away from refined (processed) carbohydrates. Do not eat white bread, white pasta, white potatoes or white rice. These foods are VERY high glycemic and will spike your blood sugar which will make you hungry again much quicker. Add fiber to your diet (which you will automatically do if you switch to whole grain carbs) and eat 5-6 small "meals" during the day instead of 3 big meals. You will never be hungry and will shed pounds like mad. For more details, look for Dr. Ray Strand's book Releasing Fat. It is excellent.
For those who ARE trying to lose weight:
Unlike protein and fats, there is no minimum daily requirement of carbohydrate in order to flourish physically. If you are interested in carbohydrates in relation to weight loss, there is, however, a maximum recommendation.

The nature of the Atkins diet is to force the body to burn fats and proteins as it's energy source as opposed to carbohydrates. The body will breakdown these molecules into 2-carbon chains faster than the Krebb's Cycle can use them to produce ATP and free electrons (read up about cellular respiration for a better explaination). As a result, many of the 2-carbon chains are excreted as Ketones. Side effects: 1. Ketones STINK. If your liver is producing Ketones it's a sure thing that your breath is going to stink as well. 2. Atkins can rob you of energy, especially mental energy and stamina. Your brain works best when in runs on carbohydrates. If your brain does not get enough carbohydrates it will break down the proteins in your body. 3. Not only does this rob you of energy, you'll also lose lean body mass (aka muscle) 4. Without fiber (a carbohydrate)your digestive system is bound to slow down. Don't expect too many bowel movements while eating your bacon and cheese burgers.

Well put by the above poster. I just wanted to add I saw a program on the Atkins diet and it's a dangerous one because of high fat intake. There are simply good/bad fats, but according to the Atkins diet you can eat anything you want fat or not (and that is what some over-weight people want to hear because they hate the word "diet.") The two best diets (or training of good eating habits) is Weight Watchers and the South Beach Diet.

There is absolutely no evidence to support an increase of incidence of bad breath in low carbers....What about Atkins followers who dont have bad breath. Atkins or not, you may or may not have bad breath. Far more people are energised. Low carb eating encourages the body to use fat stores as the energy source after carbs, any other way has the body use mostly muscle. "without fibre your digestive system is bound to slow down".... Your digestive system has no set speed Peristalsis is affected by ANY food and lubrication entering the system. Fibre is merely a natural cleansing irritant, natures laxative. Low carbers should get their fibre from vegetables and if necessary drink more water to aid digestion. Low carbers may well have less movements as they are eating less rubbish. Atkins is not a high fat diet....please some time to find out what they are in fact advocating...no=where in Atkins does it suggest such bad dietry instruction.

well, that wasn't too ugly. I can't answer any of your questions, but it sounds like you did a really good clense. I think I'm going to try it. The only thing I think I'll add is some veggies inbetween meals, along with the fruit. Did you notice any real difference on the scale?0

I'm not sure if it made a difference since my weight loss has been pretty consistent all along.
Idid notice a fairly rapid reduction of nearly an inch in a wekk (and this is after losing about 3 inches in the preceeding 2 months). I looked at myself in the mirrir at the end of that week and I shocked myself. I could see a noticeable dfifference around the extreme lower lats (in other words, the sides of my waist, which had been a stubborn area.). That extra inch obviously came from there.
Again, I can't say that the 3 days of high-fibre made the difference. However it was the only variable.0 -

Going back to review the original questions, the consensus on Question 1 appears to be that the volume/weight is not the key but merely a consequence of the key. The key, if I've followed the input, is how much calorie intake you process (either through energy output or other means) before it can be absorbed and stored in the body.
In relation to the "other means" of avoiding storage, we've had an excellent discussion on high-fibre intervention. I'm not sure that there's been agreement on that as there was a suggestion that the additional expulsions are just a temporary depletion of normal 'stand-by' supplies. This is my strictly lay interpreetation.. I hope someone will correct me if I am wrong.0 -

Opinions on this question appear to be divided (similar to the responses to Question 1). It has been suggested that other factors that affect the rate of abosrption of food elements (such as a high-fiber diet) can have a substantial short-term effect on the volume of excreta (and, hence, weight loss).
Doubt has been cast on whether or not this weight loss is only temporary as the body must return to a balanced position (or status quo). I'm imagining that this argument apes the process of losing sweat. While the immediate water loss is obvious, the water must, and will be replaced sooner or later whether we like it or not.
However I'm not seeing a clear and compelling answer to the longer-term benefits of moving things through the system as quickly as possible.0 -
