Metabolic Testing

Has anyone here tried metabolic testing using equipment such as the Bod Pod (for body fat %) or the Body Gem (for a true BMR)? There's a place locally that offers these services, but it's part of a package deal that's on the pricey side, and I keep wavering on whether to get it done. On the one hand, I'd really like to get some accurate information so I can tailor my calorie intake accordingly. On the other hand, I wonder if I can essentially get to the right place through a little bit of trial and error on my own. Would appreciate any insights from anyone whose had the tests done as to whether they found them to be worhtwhile...

By way of further explanation, this is the program I'm looking at: http://www.targetmetabolism.com/

The science makes sense to me, and is consistent with the approach I've read about on here. I'd probably sign up in a heartbeat if they offered the testing a la carte, but unfortunately I can't seem to find anyplace that offers that. so it's more of an all-or-nothing commitment.

I saw the sign at my 24 hour fitness club in vancouver,Wa.
They are having 1 day bodpod test for $50. Tonight, when I go the club I'll check to see if there is a website for it.
You also can check the universities to see if they offer the test.
OSU in my area does it also.
