It's why I try to completely ignore those threads. Is it disingenuous to give someone a 9 or 10 when they aren't that attractive? Maybe. But does anyone on this site really need someone telling them they don't look good? Nobody's looking for that. And your "brutal honesty" isn't going to help them.

Nothing wrong with an ego boost from time to time, especially here.

This is why I propose the -5 to 5 scale. Think of it like this:

On the 1-10 scale, what is average? I've heard five. That makes sense. It's right in the middle. I've heard seven. Makes less sense, but in the States a seven out of ten is a "C" grade--average.

Furthermore, the 1-10 scale only gives positive numbers. If you saw a swamp troll, you might say, "Ew, that's a two." But you're still giving that land monster two positive points. The negative five to five scale allows you to add and subtract points as necessary.

'Zero' is neutral. You could look; you could look away. No big deal either way. The scale is a bell-ish curve. A "one-point-five" is a very fine score. The most beautiful woman I've ever known is a four-point-nine. There are only three people I've ever known who are above fours.

Of course, a coworker of mine proposed this scale: "Yes or no." And I suppose that's the only one that matters, n'est-ce pas?

I went on there once and someone gave me a 6.5.

It was a really good looking guy, too.

    I cried.

Then I ate some carbs (it was after 3 pm!!!!), consumed some sugar, and woke up to find I had gained all 138 pounds back.

That rating game destroyed my life.

I have not entered that thread b/c I'm pretty sure the results are a binding legal contract chiseled in stone and immediately transmitted to all of my exes for ultimate approval or rejection. The opinions of people I don't know on the Internet might be too painful to bear, what if I realize that someone giving me a 7 might actually be trying not to make me cry, and then I cry? I like to stay in the more light hearted and fun discussions.

I laugh at the 9-10's who go back to say thank you, insert other comments, say thank you again, until they take up half the thread. Fishing for compliments is such a delightful character trait. Or at least a comical one. Lol

No one whats to hurt someones feelings! This is a site called my fitness pal! So everyone wants to be as positive as possible! Not too many people I call friend are going to say to me "hey your a 2 or 3 fatty!" What good does that do? I personally think that if you need the confirmation of strangers to make you feel good about yourself you may want to see a therapist!
psh ive been made fun of etc so many times on this site thats so a lie!!! although it really doesn't get to me. people dont try to be positive they just dont comment on THAT topic unless they have something nice to say!!! lol

Sorry you where made fun of! :flowerforyou:
