I tried eating at 1200 and my weight stalls. my BMR is 1458 and that seems like a whole lot trying to lose weight quickly. I try to alternate the higher day and 1200 day now so my body doesn't think its starving.0

Thanks so much for sharing. I have been trying to stay below 1200 calories and I am now 214 pounds. I guess I need to increase my calorie intake :happy:
Perhaps you have heard this before but the calorie count you noted is well below your BMR. For example, I am at 178 pounds, at 1810 per day and still losing weight. Who needs to feel miserable and hungry all the time? I have typically 500-1500 exercise calories per day, don't eat them all back and so the trend line is down on the weight. Can't see why someone at that weight needs to be at 1200 calories to lose weight. Just saying. Good luck on your journey.0 -
Did he say to eat to maintain and then exercise will make you lose weight?
Im confused because if I eat say 1800 a day and then exercise away 400, that nets me at 1400 and very close to his definition of starvation? Is he contradicting himself or am I just misunderstanding?

This is pretty good, but as a nutrition major, I can attest that almost all Americans get more than enough protein in their diet. Don't need to worry about it, and don't need to supplement if you've got a relatively normal diet.0

This is pretty good, but as a nutrition major, I can attest that almost all Americans get more than enough protein in their diet. Don't need to worry about it, and don't need to supplement if you've got a relatively normal diet.
I, personally, have to make protein a priority and I have seen a positive difference because of it. If I just let it go and didn't track it, my carbs would be 40/50% of what I ate, and protein and fat would have to fight it out for the rest. It's very easy for me to only get 50g of protein a day. When I really try, I can get over 120, but I don't regularly do protein shakes, etc...
If you follow the .8g per weight, I should be getting 120. If you go by 1g per body weight, I should get 150... I'm lucky some days to get 100g.0 -

Can anyone explain the difference between BMR and maintenance calories? My BMR is 1350 and I burn about 300 calories a every day exercising. I have been eating 1200-1300 calories a day, but I am worried that is too few. Thanks!0

BMR is the amount of calories your body burns just to stay alive. Maintenance calories are what you'd eat to stay at the weight you are. For example. my BMR is 1293 and my maintenance is 2900. If I wanted to stay at 267#, I'd eat 2900 calories a day while keeping up with my exercising.0 -
Ok I'm really really confused now. My BMR is 1406 and I burn about 500 a day from exercise so should I be eating 1906 to lose weight then bringing my net to match my BMR at 1406? or am I completely confused0
