Ladies? Ever cut your hair short and regretted it?

Contrary to popular opinion, I never found a short hair style to be less maintenance. You still have the blow dry, style, and shape it just like long hair. That combined with the trim schedule can make short hair more maintenance than medium to long hair (no ponytails).
Wow, really? Maybe it depends on the cut or the texture of your hair or something because my hair takes 30-seconds, if that. It dries naturally, I just run my fingers through it, and that's it. If I feel like it, sometimes I run some paste through the ends to make it a bit more pieced, or this miracle stuff called Powder Play that makes my hair more spikey, or sometimes I spray on some gloss-shine stuff that makes my hair look more chic...depends on my mood. That's what takes about 30-seconds.
I've always thought that if someone needs to spend a lot of time on their hair, it's because their stylist has tried to give them a cut that their hair doesn't naturally want to do. Go for what works WITH your hair, not against it and it's easy-peasy.0 -
I am currently in the same decision making position... my sister is a hairdresser and wants to use me as a model and cut mine short, with an undercut and longer on the other side...
I am so scared! but kind of excited for the outcome!
Do you guys think something like that would look ok on me? :S
You have a lovely shaped face... go for it...0 -

Good for you, but no, that did not work for me. I did not like the way my hair dried naturally when it was short so I had to always blow dry and style it. It never laid properly without some styling. My hair now is 10 minutes to do, less than I spent on my my pixie/super short cut.0 -
I had mine cut short (and dyed a stupid colour - ignore the colour) in my late teens. I love how low maintenance it was, but I hated it as a whole. It wasn't cut anything like the image I took in.
I also had the added issue of being a tomboy, though. That didn't help. With a tomboy personality and no boyfriend people assumed I was a lesbian, which I found hard to cope with. I had people I knew shout it in the street, call me it in front of customers at work and when I went to university just as I was starting to grow it out there was a lesbian who got a bit obsessed with me.
Add to that the fact that for me, growing it out meant dark major dark brown roots with the blonde...ugh.
I still miss how fast it was to sort out in the morning, but need to remind myself how much I hated it.0 -
When I hit about 125 pounds lost, I cut off 14 inches and never looked back. I feel so sassy with short hair now and I can really pull it off since my face is much thinner.
I did hack my hair off when I was overweight in highschool and it looked like hell. I cried for like a week over it. But now that I'm skinny, I absolutely love it short. It's more work, and I can't just throw it up in a ponytail when I'm lazy but I love it.0 -
Yes. I had a pixie cut for years. It was okay on me, but very difficult to grow back out. The "in between" stage sucked. My haircut now is great for me.
It's a big commitment going super short on your hair so I suggest doing incremental cuts before going pixie. Pixie cuts require monthly trims also (sometimes more often) depending on how fast your hair grows and the cut you want.

This is exactly my answer. I had a pixie cut for years, and now that I've lost weight, I've decided to grow it out again. Its been almost six months and the part that was around my ears is just now getting to a workable length - and my hair grows fast!0 -
Also original poster short hair would look lovely on you!0

I really liked having short hair the 2 times I did have it cut short. One style was VERY short and a rather high maintenance style, but I loved it and felt really cute wearing it all did up and fancy. It was super dark red - my favorite color, which makes me reminisce and want to dye it that color again. That was in middle school - and yeah, I got made fun of a lot for it, got told I looked like a boy and was a lesbian. LOL. Whatever. I grew it back out after that, just so I didn't have to deal with the dramatic BS anymore. But when I was older, like 19ish I think, I cut my own hair to about the bottom of my ears. I was lucky I didn't butcher it, honestly! lol. It turned out really cute though, and I loved how easy it was to maintain at that length. Usually I'd just do a headband or pigtails or just leave it down with some hair clips to keep it out of my face. Simple, cute, easy. Now I want to get mine cut short! XD0

I LOVE having short hair. I think that it is hard because unless you wear makeup and/or jewelry and, even if you do, people can mistake women for men, just on the basis of their hair.
That said, I adore my short hair. I feel the best with short hair. It feels like me. And, I like me!0 -
not quite boy cut but it is too short to tie up...
The only thing I regret is I have to style it every day, I cant just tie it or pin it up. So its more time consuming than before, but looks loads better!0 -
Cut mine really short when I was 42, now back to shoulder length as I approach 54! Husband only told me he hated the short hair when I grew it back long!
(I started growing it again as I approached 50)0 -
yes, so i didnt cut it for 20 years, then i had kids and relized that wile changeing diapers there was a alarming trend of getting poop in it unless it was FIRMLY tide back, and i dint allways have a hair tie, so it gets choped again, about yearly now, up to my shoulders0

EVERY time I cut my hair short I regret it. It's never been BOY short, but I've had it as short as chin-length before and the shine has always worn off after about five minutes... I definitely prefer mine long - but some people rock the pixie cuts, so it's just a personal thing!0

I used to have long hair (you can see a bit of it in my avatar). I shaved it off. I haven't regretted it. Some days I think about how nice it would be to have long hair, but I still don't regret the decision. It's hair, it'll grow back!0

My hair has been long since I was a child. I'm almost 55 and it's still to the crack of my bum. I debate whether to cut it all the time. I have almost decided to cut it super short, for the first time in my life, sometime in the coming months. I really love this cut on Ginnifer Goodwin. Maybe I would love it on me too. I know it would be super easy to care for, compared to the hair I have now!
I love this cut! I would not look as beautiful but I would love it! I love short hair! The shorter the better.0 -
I love having short hair, even though I do have a fat face I just seem to rock short hair better than long hair.
The longest I let it get to these days is when it starts going into a Harry Potter/old Bieber style then I have to get it cut because it's annoying!
I usually get a number 3 at the back and sides and short and choppy on top
I sometimes have dreams where instead of freaking out because my hair is falling out, I freak out because my hair is long and there are no tools available to cut it with! I'm odd! :ohwell:0 -
Let's just say that in the 80's *flicks* or *bangs* were in and one hairdressers appt ended up with me sporting a curly haired mullet.:ohwell:0
-
My hair was damaged from a failed perm so I cut it off into a long pixie cut. I dont regret it, but I am waiting ANXIOUSLY for it to grow it.
I say go for it. It always grows. And short hair is super cute.0 -
I still have my hair quite short at times, the first time I shaved it of it took me awhile to get used to it but got so many compliments....0
-
I always have a weak moment and cut my hair! I always regret it after (I've done it at least 8 times) My hairdresser is smart enough to talk me out of it now, because she knows that I'll hate it in a week.
Absolutely! Bring the pic and talk to your hairdresser about it! I bring mine pix all the time and she tells me yes or no, or even suggests something similar but is better suited for my face.0 -
had it cut short years ago, been growing it for 5 years now, its down to the bottom of spine...never go short again...maybe when im older i will. short suits alot of people though, just not me.x0
-
I've had my hair that short twice. First time when I let one of my friends cut my hair.
It does grow back, but slowly.0 -
I have had short hair for years - cut it the shortest I have ever had it this year (like Emma Watson's pixie cut). Don't be afraid! Hair grows back. It is fun to change things up0
-
Yes I made the mistake of having long hair and decided I wanted a bob, I had it done and hated it. I cried all the way home and wouldnt go out my front door for about a week and when I eventually went out, I put a scarf round my head and got myself a wig and wore it till my hair grew back lol x0
-
I've had short, medium and long styles of almost every shade too. I treat my hair as an accessory that I can experiment with every 6 weeks or so. Going from long to short in one cut is a bit intimidating but it can also be liberating. There are a variety of short styles that you can play with too from pixie to bob to whatever you can think of. Just have fun with it!0
-
I've done it and love it! So much easier to do in the morning and super cute! Hair grows back so don't worry about it0
-
Oh, Lord. I had "boy short" hair all through high school. You should see my passport picture! I look like a homely French boy. I did like it, though. I look decidedly better with long hair-- I hate to say it. I've always toyed with the idea of doing it again, though, now that I'm a little thinner. I have a big face/head haha0
-
I cut mine off...not boy short, but pretty close. And for a few years I went from the length to shoulder length. Then out of the blue, DH and sons mentioned how they love my hair long. And some of my boys said that they hated my short cut (it was at my shoulders at that point) So, I decided to grow it back out.
I don't regret cutting it, but I realized I am a long hair girl. I do change the color from time to time, but always come back to blond!!0 -
Totally miss my boy hair. And I think I'd pull it off better now, with my face being thinner.

Oh, someone said something about maintenance, too. I had to do A LOT of it because I have really curly hair. It was a pain in the you-know-what.0
