There are no unhealthy foods, just unhealthy food habits.

Just saying all trans fats are synthetic. They do not occur in nature which is why they are so bad for us. In the ingredient label they are listed as partially hydrogenated oil. Not try to be snooty just letting you know :)

    Lol what garbage

    QUOTE:
"We know that high-fructose corn syrup causes obesity, insulin resistance, which is the step just before Type 2 diabetes, and heart disease. So these are important reasons why we want to stay away from this cheap sugar."

    Oh it causes obedsity now?

    Actually it does:

Unlike glucose, fructose is readily converted to fat by the liver, leading to an excessive concentration of fats and lipoproteins in the body.9 High and prolonged fructose ingestion increases unfavorable lipid profiles in the body. By increasing triglyceride levels12,27—an independent risk factor for coronary heart disease—fructose promotes potentially dangerous lipoprotein changes that increase atherogenic risk. For example, fructose increases apoB100—the primary lipoprotein responsible for carrying cholesterol to the tissues—which leads to the formation of fatty deposits. Conversely, high-density lipoprotein (HDL), which is responsible for carrying cholesterol particles back to the liver to be eliminated, is decreased by fructose.28 Fructose ingestion therefore contributes to fat deposits in the liver (fatty liver)7 and increases the amount of dangerous lipoproteins that enhance cholesterol deposits in blood vessels walls.29 This can lead to plaque buildup and narrowing of the blood vessels—a ticking time bomb for the development of both stroke and heart attack.

Foods do not make people obese. People make themselves obese.

Wow and to think fruit does all that...I guess fruit really is evil......or maybe fructose and a plethera of other food stuff can cause dysfunction when context and dosage is considered.......

Not trying to be snooty either but you're wrong, do a little research

Trans fat is extremely rare in any natural food, and that in trace/low amounts.

It's not that trans fat is bad per se, but it does cause problems in large quantities. That's generally the problem with processing food and making it all easily-preserved yummy deliciousness. It's not the ingredients; it's the concentration. Sodium is an essential element - you'd die without it. You NEED some in your diet. But it's also a very cheap preservative that happens to taste really yummy, so it's used heavily in processed foods.

That's the only real problem with heavily-processed foods. Things that are found in small or trace quantities in nature are either generated or concentrated to meet a specific set of goals within the food (flavor, preservation, lowering the "fat" number on a label, etc). If your diet is very high in processed foods, you need to keep a careful eye out for some of those ingredients.

Processed food is not bad. SOME processed food has good things in such high quantities that they become detrimental to health, and others have things that have little actual health benefit but are put there in possibly unhealthy quantities to meet flavor or preservation goals.

Natural trans fat can be found in foods made from cows and sheep.

And where in that link does it say it causes obesity?

I stand corrected. That was about the metabolic dangers of HFCS and the fact that it is readily converted to fat by the liver.

Either way it's NOT good for you.

Yay for scare mongering. And "preservatives" aren't an ingredient. Preservatives ARE ingredients, but not the way you're wording things.

And trust me, you would rather have preservatives in your food than NOT have them. They aren't just there to scare you. They keep your food from rotting. Oh but I guess we all live near farms...

Oh noes chemicals!! How awful! But do you wanna hear something REALLY scary? Our entire bodies are made up of chemicals!! Quick! Abandon your flesh!!

    Agreed! We do need preservatives.

And also, what about sugar that naturally occurs in fruit?

Because it's not bad for you and if you go off everything listed in this thread as "bad" well.. hope you enjoy eating Kale you grow yourself.
