    I bite my nails.

My legs are always on the move. If I am sitting my legs are bouncing.

    Pfft. You all are normal.

I bite the insides of my cheeks. Alternating sides. Hard. Have since I was a kid. I look like a camel when I do it.

I bit my bottom inside of my mouth! Once it gets swollen i can't leave it alone!

It's not a nervous thing, but I'm a picker. I've ruined some perfectly lovely skin for a compulsion.

When I'm super nervous, I sweat. Mostly my hands & feet. I've actually been diagnosed with hyperhydrosis-- it's awful. But I suppose maybe nervous diarrhea is worse (?). Maybe.

I remember the first time I saw my little girl picking at her face until it started bleeding...

"Awww honey! Daddy's sorry he passed his crazy on to you! Who's a beautiful little neurotic princess? It's you! Now let's get ice cream and chew our faces while obsessively counting."

Can't even blame my crazy on my parents. I have to own my neuroses. Lol.

If you twist and turn away
If you tear yourself in two again
If I could, yes I would
If I could, I would let it go, surrender, dislocate

If I could throw this lifeless lifeline to the wind
Leave this heart of clay, see you walk, walk away
Into the night and through the rain
Into the half-light and through the flame

If I could through myself set your spirit free
    I'd lead your heart away
    See you break, break away
Into the light and to the day

Ooh ooh, ooh ooh, ooh ooh
Ooh ooh, ooh ooh, ooh ooh

To let it go and so to fade away
To let it go and so fade away
I'm wide awake, I'm wide awake, wide awake
I'm not sleeping, oh no, no, no

If you should ask then maybe they'd
Tell you what I would say, true colors fly in blue and black
Bruised silken sky and burning flag
Colors crash, collide in blood shot eyes

    Ooh ooh, ooh ooh
    Ooh ooh

If I could, you know I would
If I could, I would let it go, this desperation, dislocation
    Separation, condemnation, revelation
    In temptation, isolation, desolation

Let it go and so fade away, to let it go
Oh yeah and so fade away, to let it go, oh no
And so to fade away, I'm wide awake, I'm wide awake
Wide awake, I'm not sleeping, oh no, no, no

I almost never paint my fingernails because I will scrape the polish off (with my nails AND my teeth) as soon as they get a little chip in them.

I'm occasionally a knuckle-popper, too, but not very often anymore.

I nibble on my lips alot, so they often end up chapped and dry. I also twist my dreads around my fingers when watching tv etc...so noting really bad. As I child I used to suck my hair, bite my nails, pick my nose and chew the inside of my cheeks. I was a nervous child!

Old wives' tale. Cracking knuckles is just the popping of gas bubbles in your joint. It's not harmful.

For those that pick stuff. the only thinkg that I have found that helps is fake nails. They are not sharp enough to pick most of the time. So, it can be really frustrating. But, I make myself bleed much less.... Just an idea.

    Take your pick, let's see...

Tap my whole leg like it's been electrified.
Pick at my cuticles till my fingers are torn up
Sadly, any defect on my hands/arm - IE: small cuts, nicks, whatever... I'll keep picking them. There is one spot on my arm that has a callus that is nearly 20 years old. Plus, if I start it causes a chain reaction "itchiness" in my skin and I will scratch it till I'm bleeding. I so try to not do it, but my job is extermly stressful and it's gotten worse these last few years. :(

are you anemic? have you talked to your dr about that?

    Nope not anemic....... Oral fixation.......

I'm struck by the genius of eating ice to deal with an oral fixation. How many other people might have dealt with the same fixation by eating hard candy or popcorn or some other snack? Ice as a snack: 0 cals, 0 carbs, 0 sugar. Good stuff.

Also ruins your teeth. I had that same habit, had to stop after doing it for so long and biting so hard that I literally cracked molars. If you can, I suggest you stop before you do damage. :flowerforyou:

i play with the bottom hem of my shirt.. i twirl it around, pull on it... do weird things with it, very awkward things. or i pretend to bite my fingernails.. i don't actually bite them, i just put them near my mouth like i am. or i play with my hair, adjust and/or clean my glasses even if they don't need it, bite the inside of my lip or scratch my neck even if it doesn't itch... or i dance around in place. /=

I'm a compulsive leg shaker. I'm also bad at relaxing. I feel like there is always something to get done and I never really want to just sit and relax. I pretty much always keep myself busy, otherwise I get bored.
