I ran my race on Sunday and all this advice was spot on. I wound up not parking very close to the start and I only had my stainless steel water bottle that I didn't want to leave at the start line. So, I didn't get any water for about 30 minutes before the race. I got a dry mouth a few minutes befor the start and had to bum some water of people around me.

So, next time, i'm bring a small bottle to the start that I can toss asside when the gun goes off.
  • Bump for later. Such helpful info!

Running my first 5K this Saturday! It's a really small one, but I've been wanting to do this for YEARS and I'm so excited - and worried I'll do something completely stupid, like run off-course, or sprint the first mile and not finish at all. LOL

Great info. Thanks for compiling it.

great post. thanks for sharing. you forgot drink the free beer (if you drink / can drink). i've been told and have read beer is better for you after a race than power drinks.
