Why can't people tell yet?

I'm down 12 pounds so far. My coworkers have told me at least everyday for the past week that they can see a difference. I can tell, only because my work uniforms are a lot looser and I swim in them compared to 3 months ago when I was busting the buttons off the shirts and barely able to button the pants up. Standing in the mirror in just a pair of shorts I can't really see any differences though. My wife said she doesn't really see much of a difference either. MFP hs tracked my weight and measurement, I am down 3 inches on my waist. I know that eventually I will see the results. To the you the truth though, I FEEL different, I have a ton more energy and I sleep soundly through the night, and those are two things I haven't been be to say in over 8 years.0

I can sympathize with you. It's SO frustrating when you've been working your butt off and people don't notice. But you notice and that's what's important. Plus, the internal workings of your body are probably severely thanking you. It depends on where you carry your weight and body type. If you are pear shaped then it may be more difficult for people to tell because your weight is more evenly distributed as opposed to someone who is apple shaped. I hope that helps; keep up the great work! Congratulations on all of your success thus far!0

I have definitely dealt with this since I started working to lose. The most frustrating thing is going places with my boyfriend because EVERYONE notices that he lost weight (without even trying!) I just stand there quietly and smile. I know someday they'll notice I did, too. Hang in there0

yeah, i lost about 20 lbs when people started noticing. They will eventually, so just keep going0

I am a very small person so I felt like 10 lbs looked like a LOT (I am 4'11); when friends I hadn't seen in a long time were here last week they said my husband looked like he had lost a lot of weight
Try not to get discouraged- it is harder to tell for people that see you every day. You know you are making a change! Way to go!0 -
People don't always comment when they notice...Kind of afraid to be wrong.0
-
People CAN tell... they're just to shy to say anything for fear of being wrong when they ask, "Have you lost weight?"
So here is what you do... lose more weight until they are so astounded that their mouths go faster then their brains can stop them from blurting out compliments
Seriously though, stick with it and wear a smile... the positive feedback will come.0 -
Yup, 30 pounds before anyone noticed. I started at 230 pounds and the first anyone noticed was when I crossed over into the 190's.0

remember you are doing it for you and although its wonderful to get encouragement from others know you are doing really well and treat yourself with something new to wear each time you get to a small goal. people will begin to notice, i promise0

So i started at 180 lbs about a month and a half ago and ive lost 16 lbs!! Yay! But... why can't anyone tell?? Everything that ive read has said that people should be able to start telling a difference at 10 lbs? The only people that have said anything are people who are just being nice because they know how hard im trying. Any thoughts??
Thanks!!
You may see it with the numbers, but people who are normally accustomed to seeing you wont. The appearance of 10lbs, 15lbs, 20lbs lost will be different for everyone....
Personally speaking, I could care less if people notice... I deal with alot of negative people who love passing judgement, making nasty comments - they think I cant hear but I catch them everytime and I love grabbing it by the bull's balls...
Just concentrate on your health and dont worry about why the others arent noticing... you will stress yourself to death and cause your body to create cortisol, and then you wont like the results of what cortisol does to the body0 -
One thing to consider is whether you are wearing flattering clothes. If you are still wearing the same old stuff, but it's just baggier, it may be harder for people to tell. I wore a new, fitted, flatteringly cut dress the other day--which made me look thinner than I am--and finally someone commented! I figure I need to lose another 5-7 lbs before I get lots of comments. But maybe that won't be enough either, who knows!
Just keep at it. You can tell and for me at least, that is plenty to keep me going!
^^^^^^^^ This! This has been my experience as well. I finally had someone say something to me this weekend. But, definitely don't give up - it's for you and not them!0 -
I have noticed that people are too busy in their own worlds, even if they are around you, that they don't seem to pay much attention to how others look................ people just don't seem to take the time to "see" how you look and when they do it is WOW! My trainer says when they notice and ask just tell them, Oh, I wake up everyday looking this good ) then they wonder what they missed!0

My husband says he can see changes in my body. But when I look in the mirror at myself I don't see them.
I haven't gotten any comments from extended family yet because I haven't really seen them since starting my journey 5 weeks ago.0 -
I've lost 21. Which has taken me from 202 to 181. I'm still not getting many people that notice, even though My husband and I can tell, and my nice dress work pants are literally sagging in the seat and thighs. No one else has mentioned it.
I got "You've lost so much weight!" from my in laws when I saw them right after losing 17 lbs, but they knew I was trying to slim down some, and they are the type that would say that regardless.. so I don't really count that.. granted, it's still nice to hear.. but I don't know if it was sincere.
No one at work, and no one in my extended family have mentioned it.0 -
My boyfriend noticed that I've lost weight in the past two weeks. I, in the meantime, routinely had conversations in elementary school that went: "Guess what! I finally got my braces off!" "You had braces?"
Some people notice these things, and others don't.0 -
Take a roll of paper towels and rip off a sheet or 2. It's not as noticeable as it will be once the roll has 1/3 of it already gone and you take a sheet or 2 off. The more you have to lose, the less obvious a pound will be. Weigh is one thing, but be sure to take pictures often, and get total body measurements now! Some months the inches will show more progress! Even when I hadn't lost any for months I needed to go down a size in clothes, one day you will be shocked at the side by side photo progress. Keep it up!
I guarantee one day that double take look you get will make it all worthwhile!0 -
it might be where you're losing your weight from and the type of clothes they see you in. for instance i've primarily lost from my mid section and it's not as noticeable when i'm wearing my normal clothes since i never really worse form fitting tops. the only people who are noticing are people at the gym because i wear more form fitting stuff there.0

Keep up the good work.0

People are JUST starting to notice for me, in the past week or 2.0

Sometimes it is awkward to comment- hey have you lost weight (ie: cause you sure needed to!) Remember this is for you not them!
^^^^ This. There are two things you never, EVER say to a woman, even a woman you know.
1. Anything related to weight loss at all, including "hey, have you lost weight?" because it implies that you needed to in the first place.
2. "When are you due?" <-- unless you see an actual baby emerging from the woman's body at that exact moment.0 -
